  1. I'd love to do this cane look to my Fortes - is there a source for those grill frames?
  2. It's tough to hear much difference in my Shure M91 ED and the v15 III - they both sound very good in the 1229
  3. MKB - I always wanted a v15 mm III when I was a teenager. I had a Dual 1229 but could not afford the V15. Years ago my dual started falling apart and without the Internet I ended up just throwing it in the trash. Years later I found my records were in boxes in my garage storage and that I had a lot that were never online or on cd. I found a 1229 online and had it refurbished with a Shure m31 cartridge. It sounded good but I lusted for a v15 type III with a real Shure Stylus. I found one at auction and it seemed reasonably priced. I had Larry Spencer build me a new solid maple plinth with teak veneer. It turned out gorgeous. The final day of bidding I was able to steal the V15 type III for less than $150 - and wow - it does sound amazing. I know there are turntables more highly regarded but I love my Dual 1229 with that beautiful plinth and that V15 Type III - thru those upgraded Fortes and my big HSU sub it rocks
  4. Hi Jim - I'm confused on the hum issue? I have zero noise or hum with my Shure V15 III - it sounds amazing and tracks every album I own perfectly
  5. Jim that 1229 of yours looks amazing. Maybe once my Shure v15 type III wares out I'll try the Stanton. I have no hum at all and speed is always perfect. Sounds amazing - can't imagine needing anything higher end to play my vinyl
  6. Ps - the fortes were my dads - he loved them and it was something we shopped for together - his wife hated them but that was half the fun lol
  7. I'm using the stock Dual low mass arm - bought it cheap on eBay and had it cleaned and put a vintage stylus on - after Larry built the new plinth I found an incredible deal on the v15 and had always wanted one - at the same time I found a dual head shell and m91 Ed for less than $50 - it sounds almost as good as the v15 - I'm using a newer Yamaha amp and a really nice high end project preamp - I have a few hundred records - I cleaned them all and most sound very very pristine - cleaning helped a lot - played thru my upgraded fortes and HSU sub I'm extremely happy with my listening experience
  8. That thorns td124 is a dream machine - if the low end Dual idler didn't sound so good I'd be lusting for your thorens twk123
  9. Here is the teak plinth Larry spencer made for my dual 1229 to match our entertainment center. I added a Shure V 15 type III and am loving the entitle analog experience
  10. I don't know how to upload pictures here to show you Jim
  11. Dire Straights Money for Nothing is mind blowing and Steve Miller Band
  12. Jim I agree with you about Larry. He's awesome and a wealth of knowledge about everything analog. Loves his Klipsche and his Duals. The custom work he does transforms these old turntables into works of art. Love meeting the amazing people with shared passions
  13. That AR must have been created by Larry Spence. His work is impeccable and after he custom built a teak plinth for my Dual 1229 my wife loves it as a center piece in our living room. Playing thru my vintage forte 1's passed down from my dad my old vinyl sounds awesome. I did the Crites mods and added an HSU subwoofer and wow
