  1. Nice to see some tube rolling going on here....

I've just started to fine tune my tubes to hear what each exchange does.

Today I swapped out the two original Primaluna/Shuguang 12au7 tubes in the Input section with a pair of NOS Matched Brimar 12au7 4003 Military spec from the 1970's.

Now, the original tubes were good.... but these two Brimar tubes are stupendous!

Bass tightens, treble cleans up more and pushes forward, more definition, wider soundstage and that 3D sound bubble got even bigger. This is just from replacing the two front input tubes! Wow! What they say about these Military spec tubes is quite true!

Guitar sounds/plucks, Bass Guitar strums, Hi-Hat hits, Cymbal splash, Snare strikes and rim taps, Voices hanging mid air..... All bang on!

I played Larry Carlton & Robben Ford Unplugged.... I know this CD inside out... Or thought I did! I was transformed there... In my living room.... As though I was sitting at the concert in the front row! The air space!!! Oh my!! All instruments came alive.... All together.... Even the crowd was sitting around me! Amazing! From two tubes! No way!

Then... I played Dido's latest album, Still On My Mind, and heard even more sounds lurking in the background! This made this electronic album sound even more special. Crikey! 😳

Wonder what happens when I change the remaining front flanking tubes....

  2. I concur with tivorocks.

The Topping D90 MQA is an extremely good DAC  and gels nicely with Tube Amps.

Very precise sounding without any harshness.

    Highly recommended!

  3. Time for some UK Lockdown testing! We are all locked down for four weeks now and possibly longer.... So what better time to have a listen and make possible additions 😃

    Chord Hugo TT2 DAC

Chord Hugo M Scaler Upsampling Digital Processor

    Benchmark DAC3

    Topping D30 DAC

Ideon 3R Master Time USB Re-Clocker

    InnuOs Phoenix USB Re-Clocker

All will be playing through my Primaluna EVO 400 Integrated Amplifier, Lampizator Amber 3 DAC and Klipsch Forte III Speakers.

I'll be posting my thoughts soon on the combinations

I will say the whole debate for me on solid state vs tubes is pretty silly bc honestly I love the sound of my McIntosh amp and I’m still longing to repurchase a pioneer SX amp that I mistakenly got rid of.  Lesson learned.

Off topic... for which I apologise for... but....

    I hear you Mirko....

Great thread.  Simple question.  I currently run my Forte iiis with a Marantz 250 and Marantz 3300.  I have never owned a line pre without tone controls in my life.

Frankly, I am apprehensive about the EVO 300/400 investment and giving up the loudness button that I have grown quite accustomed to (I know I know haha).

In honesty, my tone controls are generally always flat, but I am a rocker and a loudness button junkie of sorts.  Did any of you miss those options when you went Primaluna?

    Hi Ted,

Running my Klipsch Forte III's via a Primaluna EVO 400 Integrated.

No loudness button required is all I can say....

  6. Many thanks Thaddeus Smith for your information. I will take this as the official reason why I cannot enter a Signature at the moment.

No reply as of today from Chad the Moderator to confirm or change my settings.

So I will wait to reach that possible magic number of 50 posts and see what happens.

  7. So, fired up Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox via my Laptop.

No change I'm afraid. No Signature facility showing on any platform.

I think I will now await a Moderator to confirm settings required within my Account or advise of alternative requirements.

Seems silly not being able to enter Signature details as it helps other users identify your set up which may be of relevance to them and others. I'm sure there is a good reason why it does not appear.

Many thanks to all who participated. I appreciate the ideas and inputs and the time you spent on replying to me.

  8. OK. I'm on my Laptop and have logged in via Microsoft Edge..... the new fan-dangled Internet browser.... but still no Signature available. Just showing the same info screen as before.

I am going to try Firefox and Chrome via the Laptop just in case. I will post an update shortly. Thanks for your time and troubles RandyH000. Appreciated.

  9. Hi,

It seems that TasDom may have a valid point here,

All the members displaying a high post count have the ability to post a signature.

    Maybe that's the key?

Many thanks TasDom. I think you may have answered the mysterious reason why I can't create a signature.

Perhaps a Moderator will confirm with me soon.

  10. Hi jimjimbo,

Thanks for your info. That was the first place I tried and there is nothing there to control my signature.

I have explored all of my available settings and expanded all areas of the account controls with no luck. Signature does not appear anywhere I'm afraid.

    Thanks for your time though.

  11. Still see no way of offering my signature details on my account settings.

Would a Moderator please step in and advise me of how to do this or offer a facility to do so. The reason I ask is that it would be helpful for other members to see what my set up is in conjunction with information I'm asking about or recommendations that I may make. Thanking you in advance.

  12. Hi fellow Innuos owners,
Been playing about with my new Innuos Zenith MK3 and comparing Orange Squeeze, Qobuz, Tidal and Roon.
I seem to remember someone mentioning that Innuos will be releasing a brand new software platform soon that will be an 'all in' operating system. Meaning better integration of App facilities and library facilities such as Roon.
Anyone know of anything in the pipeline?
    Cheers all!!

  13. Oh wow!

I've just swapped over to the 4 ohm taps on the Primaluna EVO 400 Integrated playing through my Klipsch Forte III's.

    I'm stunned!

More body in the sound. Bass more rich and defined. Totally solid sound at high listening volumes.

Late night low volume listening is also absolutely awesome. It's like hitting the Loudness button in the 'good ole days' but with equal mids and highs mixed with beefy bass!

I'm shocked! But oh so happy! 😃

  14. Here's a question. PrimaLuma EVO 400 Integrated. Built in Phono Stage. There is a facility to install and connect a Turntable under the EVO 400. One has to buy the appropriate Phono Stage board made by PrimaLuna for a tidy instal. Is this facility completely dormant until the Board is installed or can one connect a Phono Stage to it to make it work? Only asking as it is shielded which is useful. Can't have a look as this thing weighs a ton and getting under it is another hurdle 😂 Otherwise, is it a case of connecting a Phono Stage to one of the AUX channels?

  15. Ok.... So.... I've decided to concentrate more on a Music Streamer/Server/CD Ripper rather than go all out for a the Denafrips DAC for the moment. In the meantime I've bought a Topping D90 DAC MQA to get me on the DAC wagon as I am about to order an Innuos Zenith MK3 1TB. This combo... together with my PrimaLuna EVO 400 Integrated and Forte III's should be a great system to hear what's going on. 😁

  16. Thanks Fido,

I'm going to give this a try.

My system is new so I didn't want to blow anything up!😂

Although the PrimaLuna info mentions 8 ohm and 4 ohm and even, if my recollection serves me well, 16 ohm (or was that the Fortes?), would there be a power output increase per channel? They don't mention this at all.

    Cheers! 🍻
