  1. Dear all, I'm considering redamping my cf-3 rev 3 with good quality foam. Can you advise me? What about this type of foam? https://www.toutlehautparleur.com/laine-d-amortissement-15-mm-coton-100-x-73-cm-speciale-acoustique-avec-face-adhesive.html And where should I apply it? On every internal faces? The original foam look cheap. And I LOVE my speakers so if I can upgrade it... Thanks for your help!
  2. Dave you was absolutely right! 2 woofers on the same cabinet with dust cap unglued! Now I need advices on how to glue. I have to completely disassemble the dust cap or can I just add glue where it's needed (with a toothpick for example)?
  3. Thanks Dave, I will check tonight when kids will sleep !
  4. Thanks Dave You speak about the dust cap but I was thinking my problem concern the plastic part around the woofer. Is it possible? I can clearly hear a vibration on high-volume bass sounds. It's really annoying ++
  5. Dear all! A few days ago, I upgraded my installation and bought a DAC (Gustard X20U). What a, improvement!! Whaou! So impressive! But, with this quality I also noticed that one of my woofer is making a strange noise when playing music with high low frequency. Something is vibrating/resonating and I can't find what. I have the feeling that the plastic spacer that surrounds the woofer vibrates. Do you know what can it be? I have also the same noise when the woofer ii outside the cabinet (unscrew and put on the ground).
  6. not me sorry. But It should be easy to read caps and resistors values on your actual crossover.
  7. Hello Moray James In the past you sent a zip file with two differents crossover. After some research, it looks like it was a rev1 and a rev3 crossover. Can you confirm? Again, do you think I can modify my actual rev3 crossover to have a rev1 version despite my differents woofers (model 1030 instead of 1022) ?
  8. @Dave this is strange because we don't have the exact same schematic. It's pretty close but... (Mine is on the left, yours on the right) When I look at the schematic Moray James sent, it looks like I have the exact same component as CF3-B schematic. You have component from rev1 and rev3 so I think that you have a rev2 crossover. Can you post you Low Frequency crossover part to check the difference with other revisions? @Moray James Do you think I can modify my actual crossover to have the same crossover (with my actual woofers) as the rev1 version? Thanks again for you help!
  9. So today, I disassembled one of my cabinet totally. Actually one of my cabinet had the back unglued so it was easy to make some bracing! I was very astoniched to see that my two cabinet was not build the same way. one is poorly built compared to another. This is completely sloppy! On the bad one, the screws are screwed awry, no paper gasket but a really thin foam between woofer and cabinet, the damping foam in the enclosure is badly cut... The builder did a crappy job! Here are some photos of the cabinet I am bracing (this one was well built) For making a good bracing in this cabinet, what are the secrets? Thanks again for your help!
  10. Ok thanks all, Next time I will try to cut the dynamat in one piece. by this way, It will be faster and easier to put on the woofer. Then I will brace my cabinet. I have a lot of wood tools (purchased for the construction of my cinema room 2 years ago) and I think I can make something good. My idea is also to put a veneer on the cabinet to make it WAF compatible
  11. Ok so the first woofer is finish, what do you think? Did I forgot something? As you said, the speaker wasn't glued but there was a kind of foam around it that I damaged during disassembly. I do not think it's serious but it must certainly be replaced to get it right?
  12. Source: http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/speakers/messages/26/264992.html I really would like to ear the Serie 1!
  13. Can't stop damping Bob Crites can remake my crossover with better capacitors but I have to think if I want to take the risk of shipping my filter... I can do it by my own if I really want but is there a big improvement after that? I also have to carefully choose my caps because it can be better or worse... ++
  14. I've sent a message to Bob Crites to know what he can do on my CF-3's filters.
  15. Thank you all! Concerning music, I love Jazz (classical or modern) and rock from 70's, 80's. I really appreciate music with little instruments and a beautiful human voice. I also like groups like "Florence and the machine", "Kings of leon", "Angus and Julia Stone", "Hozier", "London Grammar", "Led Zepp", "BB King", "The black keys", "Zaze" or "Christine and the queens".... In fact I love everything except rap.... Dave I will try the fiber-fil. I just need to buy some
  16. Great wvu80! The filter on your photo is from a CF-3 rev3? Today I finished damping the horn. Then I tried to dismount one woofer but it seems to be glued on the cabinet. Is it the case? I unscrewed the 4 screws but I can't remove the woofer. I have K-1030 woofer so no doubt concerning my revision: black horn, small port tubes, colored wires and K-1030 mean rev3. thanks again for your help!
  17. I saw that you are all remplacing the original compression by Electro voice DH 1506. I'm looking for it on Ebay. Can you explain the gain with this huge compression driver? Do I have to reinforce the original horn to support this compression (much heavier than the original)? Thanks!
  18. Thanks Moray James! I found this on audiokarma. Interesting:
  19. Thanks wvu80 for all your precious advices Don't worry about the heater, I know that it's very hot when working (you saw the wall!). Il will build a thermic shield just for winter. I'm currently damping the horn (ie photos). I will carrefully read all your post! The woofer on rev3 is not as good than the one on rev1 and rev2 ("This change included new woofers with lighter cones (K-1030-KN on CF-3)")? ++
  20. Ok thanks moray james! When you speak about "woofer basket struts", you mean like on the photo below? Sorry but my english is not so good Is there a post where I can have information on how to stiffen the cabinet? Thanks again!
  21. Hello Lost240! Can I ask you what is your central speaker? Thanks!
  22. Hello Shiva! despite it's a CF-3 Rev3, the sound is really good! The best speakers I had for the moment! I already bought dynamat for redamp the horn and the cabinet. Just waiting for the delivery My speaker cable is now Atlas Equator 2.0. It works very good with my setup. And it famous with Klipsch (and not expensive at all). I own a small amplifier (NAD C320 BEE). Nevertheless, it works very well! My cd player is a Marantz CD-63 Ki signature with Van Den Hul - The second, modulation cables. My next upgrades will be a new amplifier (if you have some advices?) and a good DAC (Gustard X20U I think). I removed the gold jumper and I found that the sound is better. Maybe it's placebo but I ear a difference. The speaker cable on my first photo was homemade and gave me to too much details in high frequency and a lack of bass . Not enough bass, the music was shrill. With the Atlas it's really better, It's better balanced. Do you think it is necessary to apply dynamat everywhere in the cabinet? Or just the horn?
  23. Dear all! I'm from France and I just purchased a pair of Epic CF3. I love them but I'm sure there is a lot of possible modifications This model is very rare in my country and it's was very difficult to find it and to have informations! My serial number is 264590002 so from what I understand it's september 21, 1995 . So rev3?... The horn is black... I have to measure the port tube. I read that you are all looking for rev1. Is there really a huge difference between those versions? Is there a way to transform my rev3 into rev1? I will damp the horn and the cabinet. Do you have some informations regarding the caps? I know it's a lot of questions... But the Epic serie is very popular in your country and you seem to know all the secrets of this speakers! Your photos and mods makes me want to go further! I bought it this weekend after a friend of mine listened the CF4 version and told me it was totally amazed... Maybe rev 1, I don't know. Thanks for all your precious advices!! François
