  1. Mind if I ask why? It seems like Klipsch has tried to make improvements to the speakers over the decades while still holding true to PWK's original vision and design, but it seems there is a large bifurcation in opinion between the traditionalist Klipsch fans who like the "honky" sound and lack of audiophile refined smoothness of the old khorns, but love the "lively" dynamics vs. newer Khorn models and other highly refined wider dynamic range non-horn high-end audiophile speakers nowadays. Obviously, there's no denying that the Khorn cabinet design has fundamental limitations that even PWK realized and tried to overcome even til his final days (Jubilee, etc.). I may even go the route of rolling my own cabinet (like a "California" design) if I don't feel the cost:benefit works out on a set of Khorns.
  2. I would love to find some teak or cherry recent Khorns for a nice price, but I have to be realistic - not going to come up that often in my area. To me the sound is the most important quality, along with being presentable enough for the wife. I can assure you the condition is excellent. Current floor on which they will sit is actually top quality red oak, so the oak would be "good enough". Teak would be ideal (I love teak furniture), but obvsly teak finish in Khorns is few and far between, so unless I reveneer them (or another pair), pretty unlikely to happen. Of the common veneer species, I'd probably be most happy with walnut, but that's ok. Honestly the biggest issue I have with the oak veneer is the color of stain that they used, not the oak specie itself. Oak would be okay. It's not a deal breaker for me. So for 2009 Khorns in excellent condition say, like $3500'ish ballpark?
  3. You mind saying how much you sold your Khorns for? I'm trying to get a feel for upper midwestern prices right now.
  4. I found a pair of nice, oak 2009 (all stock) collared Khorns in excellent condition. I'm not super fond of the exterior finish (wood and color), but they are in great condition otherwise from what I can tell. Anyone have a ballpark idea what these would be worth? I'm thinking 4k to 5k range, seeing as they are so new, but I certainly see that most Khorns often go for far less and often far less (obviously they are the longest run of mfr speaker, so that figures). Opinions?
  5. Unfortunately the 2016 LG lineup of OLED's still suffer from a lot of problems; Particularly: black crushing, motion judder, upscaling artifacting, low absolute brightness, and brightness limiting tech is very noticeable. I personally think the KS9800 beats the OLED's right now, hands down. The only things it doesn't beat the OLED's in is absolute black level, lack of Dolby Vision chip, no 3D, and viewing angles. Many people would find those less important than the shortcomings of the OLED's.
  6. I highly, highly recommend NOT getting the KS8000. I have seen a lot of problems with judder and motion artifacts with the set... some fixable, some not. The KS9000 is considerably better in motion handling in all aspects. I can't imagine you'd be happy with the KS8000 coming from a nice plasma. Most 4k LCD's still have a lot of problems with motion handling, not doubt due to the massive computational power needed to handle the large data stream. Even though the KS9000 is quite good (I'm strongly considering getting one myself), I'm tempted to delay until they get Dolby Vision (undoubtedly will be coming in 2017). That, or hope that next year LG will get their shit together and improve motion processing and upscaling on their OLED's. It's looking like, with the latest price drop on OLED's before the Black Friday prices come out, that OLED's will be right in line price-wise with Samsung's 9000/9500's and a little lower than the 9800.
  7. Ok. Thanks. I don't mean to be pedantic, but that is the value for 4 speakers, not per speaker, correct? Because the 2016 RF-82 II's can be had right now on crutchfield.com for $400/unit, shipped, so it seems that these old speakers certainly mustn't be worth the same amount money. I am seeing much newer (but used) RF-82 II's on ebay regularly for $250 to $300 per unit.
  8. Anyone have a ballpark of what well-used 2007 RF-82's might be worth?
  9. Thanks very much. So these must be at least 6 years old, because the RF-82's were produced from '06 to '10.... does that sound right?
  10. I have my eye on some new home theater front speakers and found a deal on these Klipsch's, which I am not particularly familiar with. The seller is advertising these as 2014 RF-82 II speakers (with remaining warranty), but from what I see online, these look like 2010 or older RF-82 speakers. In particular, the bottom-front of the speakers have the older, round "Klipsch" logo, instead of the thin, long "REFERENCE" demarcation and they lack the "Klipsch" logo directly under the lower woofer, and the feet seem to be the older rubber wing feet instead of the newer round feet: Also, on the back, the speaker connections are clear plastic instead of the RF-82 II's colored connectors: Tag, FWIW: Could someone familiar with this product line please verify if these are indeed recent mfr. RF-82 II's, or the older pre-2011 RF-82's? If these, indeed, are the older RF-82's, could someone comment on how much they'd be worth in decent well-used condition? I'm not finding anything to source a used price online. Thanks very much
