  1. Thanks djk for the link, picked up a LCR for about $20. Sure it isn't as accurate as the $100+ meters but I think it will do the job.
  2. If it isn't too much to ask would you give us a quick primer on level of importance in measuring caps? Or even a link(s) if I am asking too much? The LCR I got did include ESR and if I remember they were rather low but what are good, bad ranges?
  3. sorry jimjimbo, we used an LCR (inductor, capacitor & resister) meter
  4. Sure did and they tested fine though do not know the stainless material they were made of.
  5. Sorry, yes non polarized electrolytic caps. The NPE caps are 18uf 10% @100v. they measured a bit over 20uf, just outside of spec., but my tester could be a little off too as it has 2% variance .
  6. Was testing the new caps and all of the Solen caps have zero leakage but all of the NP caps tested had 1.5%-1.8%. What is considered an acceptable value for NP caps?
  7. Thanks for the tip. Had problems finding brass so I went with stainless steel hardware through out.
  8. Here is the latest x over for the Forte II's. Basically nothing more than a remake of the factory schematic. The Moser solder posts made things a lot easier than expected, please do not look too closely as my soldering skills show up when I didn't have Tracy, my second set of eyes to help guide me.
  9. Thank you djk, all we need now is a chart for all of the T?A autotransformer winding ratios and how to translate the mH values when found
  10. Hmm was afraid of that, do not have any of that equipment to do that.
  11. Is there a way to verify an autotransformers that have nothing but the 0,2 & 5 markings? That is without say a scope and just a DVM?
  12. I only replaced the damaged driver out of finical necessity but they assurded me they are functionally identical. If I could had afforded it I would had replace both just out of printable even thought I can not tell the new from old audio wise so that would be your call.
  13. They asked what speaker (KLF-C7) when I called and asking for a k-1062-kv, They crossed it over to a k-1062-ev. Works perfect.
  14. I have noticed that in the ALK Forte II schematic there is a conflict. The schematic lists a 36uf cap in the woofer section but if you look at the pic of his finished xo a 33uf cap is being used. All other values look to be the same otherwise. Could someone give us some insight as to why this might have been changed?
  15. Hmmmm, I would say the mids/highs seem to be a bit more forward but it could be because they seem to be smoother & clearer. Have since put the stockers back in and want to re do some of the layout.
  16. Had an issue with one of the squawkers not firring but traced it down to a bad tinning of the 30mh coil. Sometimes I have a problem trying to articulate but here goes. The first overwhelming impression was as if the re caped stock xo had a restrictive grill on and we had removed it with the ALK xo. Not to say the former was bad but rather how much better the upgrade was. After listening for a while the detail and 3D sound became more and more evident . I really like the new sound this xo gives you. I tried to do an AB comparison but the (out of) phasing was unbearable. Guess it goes to prove that there are/were drivers out of phase and that was one of the things ALK was fixing. All in all it was worth the time and effort to build this, it was a rewording experience and looking forward evaluating this and future component upgrades as money allow. They sound bigger and fuller is another....
  17. Thanks Deang for the kind words, I used regular RTV for the coils just to get things tested. Will strap them down per your suggestion after I know I didn't goof anything up.
  18. Thank you for the video, looks simple enough It is done, putting everything together for the final time and will give them a go tomorrow.
  19. Well we are as far as we can go on this project until we get the solder for the solder pot! Hope tomorrow will be the day it shows up, if so we should be trying these xo's by the weekend.
