  1. Thanks for the help, I'm thinking the same.
  2. Did you sell them without trying to get them modified by Bryston?
  3. Did you ever solve your issue? I am using a 2BLP to power my mids and it makes a pretty loud noise when I turn it off. Bryston said I could sent it back for repair, but they couldn't guarantee that the noise would be completely gone. My amps are about 30 years old, so no warranty.
  4. I'll have to research the green glue. I have rolls of thin lead that I could put between the layers, however I've heard good and bad things about doing that.
  5. I'm running JBL E145 woofers now, but one is not as loud as the other and has 3.0 ohms DCR. I'm thinking it needs replacing. A used E145 is difficult to find, so I'm thinking of buying a pair of Eminence Kappa 15C, or Crites CW1526. I don't listen to modern music usually, mostly 70's stuff, so I don't really need the low end bass. Will I be disappointed with the Eminance? With the JBL woofers in the Khorn cabinets It seems like I have good bottom end because everything in the house vibrates, however it's missing the punch that my other JBL speakers have. The Khorns have backs on them made of 3/4" baltic birch, however they are in my basement which is a terrible room. I also think I'm going to add another layer of 1"baltic birch to the backs because they really vibrate.
  6. I was doing research on building a wood horn, I think they are called a Yuichi horn. I still might do it, but it might be easier just to buy one. I don't mind making straight angled cuts, but I'm not sure if I can make a horn with all of its curves.
  7. I've been using them for a while, I couldn't fit them in my living room, so they are in my basement for now. I built backs for them, but I have to brace it yet because it really vibrates. The sound is different that the Hartsfield. When I play the Klipschorn loud the whole house vibrates, not so much with the Hartsfield. However with certain songs the Hartsfield sounds like a cannon is going off in the room. My next change is to try a pair of JBL 2350 horns. I also got rid of the Wenge and went with Walnut.
  8. Would you ship the big JBL's? I see a lot go on eBay, but nobody wants to ship these monsters. My zip would be 58265.
  9. I thought the wenge wood was going to look a lot better, I hate dark brown. I think I'm going to redo the veneer with walnut or maple. Maybe I'll give it a couple of days and I will get used to it.
  10. That was the article, it looks much bette in colour. They are coming along, but they were more work than I thought.
  11. I just found another version of plans and it looks like they used 1/2" and the distance between them is 11".
  12. Are they made from 1/2" or 3/4". I hate working with 1/2". Is the distance between the top and bottom 12"?
  13. I was thinking of building a Jubilee, but I really wanted to build a Klipschorn. I remember reading a magazine in the mid 80's that had a test on the Klipschorn, and I always wanted a pair since.
  14. Thank you, just what I was looking for. From the pictures that I have seen, the grill wrap around is more cosmetic than anything?
  15. I see what you mean by cutting the notch, otherwise it's wasted space. I'm going to brace everything up better, the top piece and middle piece is just sitting there for now. I had to make some practice cuts on those angled pieces, it's kind of like putting up crown moulding in a triangle shaped room. I'm going to have to do some sanding so the sides seal everything up, and maybe use some PL glue to seal everything.
  16. My progress so far this weekend. I bought a pair of JBL 2386 horns to try, and for the veneer I'm using wenge.
  17. How wide is the kick plate, and how thick it it? It looks like it has a round edge on the top? Also how far back is the return on the speaker grills? It looks like 4 inches to me.
  18. I found a few sets of plans. I haven't compared them, but they are metric and the writing looks like German to me.
  19. I can't really comment how the Hartsfields sound. I have an old pair of two way JBL 030 that have a D130 and and an 075 tweeter to compare them to. The Hartsfields do sound better, but they weren't worth the effort. I built them because I like the way that they look. That's why I want to build a Klipschorn. As far as building them with JBL components, I'm kind of trying to build a better Klipschorn, however I have all of the JBL parts lying around so I figure I might as well use them. When I was doing a Google search on my 2482 JBL drivers, I discovered that some people use them in the Klipschorn. My next step is to find a reasonably priced horn that will fit in a Klipschorn cabinet, and go to 400 Hz. If I can't I might build them slightly larger, but still to scale. I'm not sure if I really want to do that.
  20. I built a pair of Hartsfields last year, and I didn't think it was that difficult. Just very time consuming. My E145 and 2404 are 8 ohm, and the 2482 is 16 ohm.
  21. I am thinking of building a pair of Klipschorn clones using JBL components and I have a few question. Does anyone have a crossover schematic using the E145, 2482, and 2404 combination? I'm also trying to figure out what horn to use. I have one 2480 lying around, but they only go down to 500 Hz. Has anyone used the JBL 2486 horn?
