  1. KEEP YOUR SHORTS ON !! THERE'S YET ANOTHER DEAL ON LASCALAS I'M WORKING ON NOW. EVERYONE IN NASHVILLE IS "UPGRADING" (?) THEIR SPEAKERS IT SEEMS. IF/WHEN IT HAPPENS I'LL POST IT, I ALREADY GOT "MY" LASCALAS!! BUT..seriously, if anyone knows of a reasonable priced pair of cornwalls lemme know. I want them for myself.
  2. SO...HOW do you get to that woofer??..on the Industrial ones OR the standard??
  3. NOPE..actually my colleague was working for KSC and was supplying them w/ drivers for KG and in-wall series spks in the 80s/early 90s. He got these from the head of Engineering at Klipsch. Any other ideas about desireability of these ??
  4. HEY NOS- Wish I could tell you EXACTLY what was in there. When my dealer friend opened them up to verify these was klipsch drivers, etc..I didnt know what to tell him to look for other than Klipsch logo/identification,etc. The serial you can see on the speaker terminal plate and I think someone said they were mid 80s so ,from that, I'm sure someone on this BB can tell you something about what to expect.
  5. One of my work colleagues has a complete collection of papers PWK published throughout his career- complete in a nice Klipsch binder, etc. They were published and signed under the name "Gadfly Hertz" - though AT LEAST one of the papers he signed his own name. They were basically his thoughts/theories/raves and rants on all things audio. Can anyone tell me if these are worth anything or collectable at all?? Thanks for any info !!! 6. OK..They'll take alittle work but for $275 they are a deal. And a wood finished spk will fit (look) better in my room. I'll soon put the AL-K network in those babies. They will immediately be driven by an Eico ST-70 but will become part of a home theatre soon enuf. Aint this fun??
  7. So..here's what happened at the HiFi shop.... A guy came in and wanted to unload his "old beat up speakers". I asked what they were. "klipsch , huh?- well I MAY be interested. What model?" I said. "big Ol' ones- called LaScalas or something. I guess they were expensive new" - he brought them in and I checked them out and offered $275 and he took my offer !! They are ,I think, 70s model raw birch LaScalas. Serial #s are 3N048 and 3N049. K-55-V horns,K-55 tweets, and AA crossovers. I will need to sand them down and refin' them - but it will be alot less work than the "Flat Black Ones". One of tweets was out but Sammy at TechStar here in NashVegas can redo the diaphram for $50. Although it may be a bad cap or something in the crossover..tweeter may be fine.I will also put AL-K crossovers in, probably right away. The guy also brought in a DEAD Mint Marantz 2325 receiver w/ walnut cabinet. That thing is a monster!! All lites work etc and a customer offered 700 bones for it right there ( I got IT for $100 ). So THAT will pay for the AL-Ks and then some. I have some pics if someone would please post them, I'll email them to ya. !!!
  8. I'm trying to do the right or "nice" thing. Ya know, using the "golden rule" that mom taught me. BUT, I'm still waiting to get "the check's in the mail" from NOS. Hear that, NOS ?? Lets confirm this is for sure. I give ya 24 hrs. INDY- thanks for being there at Birdy's. Wanna know what happened?? The band broke up- as I mentioned in the earlier thread- and THAT date at Birdys was EXACTLY one year earlier !! A great - packed out gig though. Thanks for the encouragemnt- glad you like it. We are gonna do another indie record more like early Pretenders/ Smiths /etc.. Send me address and I send you a free couple cds !!
  9. UNLESS I POST THAT "NOS440" BAILS OUT, WILL PEOPLE PLEASE STOP EMAILING ME PRIVATELY AND "OUTBIDDING" NOS. I myself fell into a great Klipsch deal yesterday and was hoping to "spread the love" and give someone else the deal I got on the "flat black LaScalas. I do realize I couldve gotten more possibly. If NOS fails to pay up, I'll make them available again but it sounds like a done deal. Thanks.
  10. HEY NOW !!..C'mon they are not pretty but "hit by a mack truck"?? Not that bad- My wife actually got used to them and think they look cool now. Anybody willing to post a few pics here..lemme know and I'll email a few to you This message has been edited by DANOCASTER on 07-24-2002 at 10:00 PM
  11. hey..I'll email you pics when I get home so you know what to expect "looks-wise". I guess i can store them for ya till the end of August but I would want to get paid before that. I'm an honest guy though- 384+ positive feedback on Ebay. I can take Paypal, money orders ,check, etc..anything basically cause you're not picking them up so the check would clear, etc.. I mean ,for $300, its kinda a "no brainer"...I'll email pics later...see ya then, Dano
  12. Well, a nice thing happened at the HiFi shop today. And thats another post --BUT it means I'm now selling my LaScalas. They arent pretty but sound great and are all original drivers. These are the "pro" models so they look alittle different cabinet -wise then what I've seen posted here but apparently are the same. They are currently Flat Black spray paint- and have been several other colors before apparently ( dont ask..I dont know why?) but some elbow grease and effort and you get those LaScalas you wanted CHEAP !! SO....To make this an easy sale- First $300 gets them and YOU PICK THEM UP IN NASHVILLE,TN. I have some pics- can I email them to someone to post on here?? I'm not sure how to do that.
  13. they look GREAT..A whole lot better than my FLAT BLACK spray painted ones for $350. WELL...thanks to you, I am no longer happy w/ my speakers !! I gotta refin' them now. Mine could look like that underneath???
  14. Looks like "Mike" from the BB here struck a deal on these todays. Congrats Mike !! I'll hope you'll post about them !!
  15. --You Wrote-------: "I would hold off on a purchase of the HF-81 just yet. I have company here but want to say something about the differences of listening goals which sometimes really can cause a disparity of opinions. " I really want your 12 cents on this before I buy..but I'm too impatient for my own good. Please post your thoughts when you have a minute..thanks, Dano
  16. If ANYONE is interested in a CD..I would be more than happy to send you one for $5- including shipping !! This is not a CDR but one from the label. I have 10,000 cds in my garage !! I take Paypal at Sparkledrive1@aol.com or you can send $ or check to my home. Wasnt gonna use this site for promo but if anyone cares- $5 a pop w/ shipping !! Dan Strain 509 Ashlawn Circle Nashville, TN 37211
  17. The band's name WAS "Sparkledrive" but we are now defunct. The singer and I will continue on in a more Liz Phair / PJ Harvey sorta vein. Yeah..Columbia was UNWISE but their promises were so alluring. We came outta it w/ a $30K van, a huge Pro Tools rig, lots a gear, our Masters, our Publishing, and a whopping 10,000 free cds of a record we are not backing,,Whoopee !! Speaking of the above mentioned bands..We did our record w/ Roger Moutenout (Yo La Tango, Sleater Kinney,etc..)so we wanted some Indie cred but he also did Paula Cole's big record and THAT is what attracted Columbia. Now..we'll do our own thing thru an indie label w/ good distribution. Our music- Our way.
  18. Having just done a record for Columbia Records, I know full well the above sceneario about club draws etc..to the image spin.(Though we did do some great shows at Birdie's in INDY ).They (Columbia) took us, a Nashville based modern day "Pretenders" post punk/indie band and proceeded to slowly "evolve" us into something we were not- ( slicker, poppier, more singles driven ). From the image, to the music/singles choices, to the promotion angle. You basically have very little say about your future in a lot of ways. You become a product. The label basically took something they dug and tried to make it into what everyone else was doing and ,in doing so, robbed the very essence of what they dug,..dig?? Not sure WHY they do that except that they spend SO much to get a single breaking on the charts that they NEED a sure thing to keep it going. They spent $300,000 on us and that is NOTHING. They spend that just pushing singles to radio for one group/one single. EVERYTHING on the radio is spun because of Payola thru indie promoters. Yet most of my peer group rarely listens to the radio. AND listens to a MUCH wider variety than a single station could play. Basically came down to we were unhappy..they werent getting from us what they wanted either..we "parted ways" (read: DROPPED)..I'm cool..now we make the music we WANT to- for us and for our fans..without being told what, who, when ,where..The seperation of art and commerce once again- I'm MUCH happier !!
  19. If you decide to go w/ SS mac, My store is selling a Mx130 preamp. It's a larger Pro Logic preamp but still for 2 channel its a nice pre w/ a good phone stage and lots of control, etc..It'd go for about $950 (was $3500 new I think ). WE also are selling a Mac 7270 (270 X 2)amp..If you,re interested- email me directly at Sparkledrive1@aol.com
  20. OK...I'll sit on my hands ( w/ my cash in it )until I hear Mobile's response. But maybe I should be even more clear. Perhaps my 100dB level is exaggerated- never really got out an SPL meter. What IS really important to me is a nice midrange w/ out the "peakiness" that some SS electronics bring out w/ horns. I love the way Klipsch are so foward sounding and I love the attack and transient response of drums, etc..But I have VERY nice solid state amps and feel like tubes would lay back a little, and soften things in a nice way. And a tube rectifier will often soften things in a very musical way. All these things are very important to me. For the first time in my 8 years of selling audio, I have speakers in my home that can give me the punch and attack that I know from being on stage -playing live -and THAT I wanna keep. My experience w/ tubes (thus far) w/ home audio has been w/speakers that werent as dynamic or efficient to start with as my KLIPSCH. So, I'm excited to think that I could have all the great things about tubes and not need 150 watt tube monoblocks to get the spks going!!! I mean, ALL my guitar stuff is vintage 50s-60s tube stuff and I'm nuts over it. I would like to have that passion spill into my listening as well. Mobile,Jazman, etc..I respect your guys opinions as ones who've clocked in the hours listening so I definitely want your feedback. I dont headbang. I mostly listen to jazz, classic rock, and indie/punk stuff but not a crazy levels.I wanna feel the kick , but I DONT want my ears to hurt. I have found both a very nice serviced, clean ST-70 and a pretty clean HF-81 that may need just caps, etc..( either one looks like $250 plus shipping )..I'll wait to hear Mobiles 2 cents ( or 12 cents) THANKS !!! - Dano
  21. OK...I'll get one of these HF-81s floating around. They seem to be slighly more desireable and certainly there are alot of great EL-84s out there. I was just thinking I wanted "muscle" as well- but apparently the HF-81 has that as well..we'll see..thanks !! By the way, has anyone heard this Musical Fidelity A324 upsampler?? Upsamples 44.1 cds up to 96 and 192kH !! WHOA !!!
  22. OK...JAZZMAN- What I'm looking for is am amp that can play loud and punchy and not LOSE what it does at lower levels. Warm highs, sweet midrange, full bottom.I want sweet and musical AND volume !! What I mean by "loud w/ authority" is 100 dB or more but unrestrained- as in "with ease" so the amp doesnt sound like its straining to get up to that level. The Choruses are in a 14 X 18 room and the LaScalas are in a 25 X 25 room. The 7591s dont scare me much cause I also use them in my little Ampeg guitar amps and know where I can get NOS ones pretty cheap. I just wonder if the HF-81 could keep up w/ what I used to ( a musical Fidelity A300 integrated- a conservative 150 watts SS). Besides the 7591 tube availablilty , the ST-70s sound great ?? 23. Hey Folks... Well, I have read enough reviews to wanna try one of these Eico pieces. I have both Chorus 1s and LaScalas. When I rock- I want it loud w/ authority. Will the 14 watt HF-81 do it ?? Or do I need the higher powered ST-70 ? Does anyone have experience w/ both and feels one SOUNDS better than the other ?? Please lemme know...thanks for your brains!! 24. HEY MOBILE !!! so sorry to SHOUT at everyone. Here's this guys note/info on the spks : Hi Dan, I have attached the requested pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't realize my lens needed cleaning until I got into the office and downloaded the images. The apparent blemishes on the grills and cabinets are actually smudges on the camera lens. You can see this when you compare frontal pictures of the speakers, because the same blemishes appear on each image. Let me know if you need these repictured. The information you requested follows: Spkr 1-Top KB-WO H/F 8533947 K-55-M 533 Spkr 1-Bottom KB-WO L/F 8533948 Spkr 2-Top KB-WO H/F 8533949 Same Same Spkr 2-Bottom KB-WO H/F 8533950 The electronic board in the top half of the cabinets was labeled, "Balancing Network Type AK2". The Inspector and Tester for the speakers were Charles Alexander and Robby Teftiller, respectively.
  25. I'VE ALREADY EXPLORED THAT OPTION BUT I JUST BOUGHT THOSE $350 (for the pair!!) LaSCALAs AND HAVE SINCE ORDERED THAT NEW MUSICAL FIDELITY UPSAMPLER.SO THERE IS NO "EXTRA" MONEY- EVEN IF YA DID BUY MY LASCALAS FOR $700 !! SORRY- IF I COULDVE COME UP W/ THE DOUGH I WOULD HAVE BEEN ALREADY DRIVING HOME FROM MISSISSIPPI !! I THINK YOU SHOULD BUY EM. BTW- I WORK AT NICHOLSON'S HIFI IN NASHVILLE, TN.
