  1. Yeah, I have the same CD-ROM internal 'cable' option with my new DMX 6 Fire sound card. I haven't connected up the included CD-ROM to card cable - yet, and the sound is very GOOD, so perhaps I will, and see if the CD's sound even better with it attached. I would "assume" that the audio quality would indeed be better going straight from the SC to the CD-ROM, and therefore by-passing all the crap it really doesn't need, etc. KEV ------------------ Now doctors call this disease "hebromadrosis", but us regular folks who wear tennis shoes and the occasional python boot - call this exquisit little inconvenience - STINKFOOT!
  2. Justin, It's always been MY dream to reside in HAWAII - can I go live in your parent house - now - PLEEEEESE!!!! I'll buy you a set of "Sirocco Pro's" if you can talk them into it - honest I will ------------------ Now doctors call this disease "hebromadrosis", but us regular folks who wear tennis shoes and the occasional python boot - call this exquisit little inconvenience - STINKFOOT!
  3. Hi Justin, Nice RIGS you got there buddy.... All I got to say....is that "IF" you are really only 17, and have all this PC/audio equipment....then YOU are one helleva lucky kid Either that, or your parents are simply "spoiling" you to death with goodies. WE never had any of that stuff when I was your age, and no parent could afford it either. Don't forget, - "YOUTH" is a priceless thing, don't grow up too fast matey, otherwise your'll regret it in the long run - trust me, what with that *white collar* of yours n all - he he Most MEN don't usually even start to mature or become sophisticated until around the the age of 35-40, so slow down a bit, and if ya don't believe me on that one - go ask any woman - yer mom for instance They'll tell ya.... 4. Yeah, I agree....WINAMP produces the best music Mp3/CD playback quality of the bunch, plus it never seems to screw-up, at least not for ME anyways. KEV ------------------ Remember - It takes a lot longer to get up north - the slow way! :-)
  5. Hey Justin, I'm just kidding around wid ya - don't ever take MY comments too seriously mate - coz 99.9% I'm just messing - tongue in cheek - like :-) Actually, you are a decent chappie - how do I know that? - coz of all the time YOU spend on this site assisting others with the audio & Klipsch problems. ...it doesn't go un-noticed ya know :-) TAKE CARE kiddo... KEV ------------------ Remember - It takes a lot longer to get up north - the slow way! :-)
  6. Nice conversation you guys got going here :-) Hey Justin, yer only 17 years old - of course stores won't give YOU the same service & respect that an older, more sophistcated, mature customer will naturally DEMAND!!! When anyone gives ME (or the wife) that wimpy "No we can't take that back" kind of response...we simply kick up such a STINK, that they are only too pleased to assist us pronto :-) And anyways, the EARS is right...any decent retail store will amke sure that ir's customers are well looked after - who gives a hoot about any 30 or 90 day warranty'e etc.....don't forget: WE the public own all the bloody STORES, it's our call - not theirs! WE make the rules....... Get with the program youngster :-) he he, as you would say KEV ------------------ Remember - It takes a lot longer to get up North - the slow way! :-)
  7. Hi There, Just wondering - has anyone out there actually *heard* the Promedia 4.1's and the Videologic Crossfire 4.1 system, to make a valid comparison??? Seems like these two systems are pretty much equal in many respects, similar prices, etc...although, several of the recent reviews on the WEB say that the *sound quality* is considerably better with the VL Crossfires, much less distortion at higher volumes, and a far more pronounced mid-range, etc... I'd like to hear some feedback from folks who have heard both systems for a valid comparison... Come on back :-) KEV
  8. Yeah, I agree with Ezdriver.... You'd think that with a speaker system costing $300+ and up, that decent monster cables would be a 'standard issue' on all Promedia products....why market high-end stuff, only to scrimp on the basics? Why not just add another $25-30 to the sale price and throw the monster cables into the package. KEV
  9. Nah, I don't have any settings at 90%.... I usually put the wave out at about 50% (as Klipsch recommends) my bass at 40-50% (90% is far too high) and the treble at 75%, coz it gives better vocal/high end pronounciation. The Z560's were ok at low to mid VOL levels, but once past that they sounded so brassy/metalic that they hissed at me like a very pissed off Texas rattler - Lol!!! The quality just wasn't there. Like I said previous, the SUB didn't sound too bad - overall, but didn't have much control via the pod center thingy. I could seem to find the right 'balance' ratio between VOL, sub and sats, no matter what I played with. Anyhow, according to my musician contacts - IF one wants/needs a real *quality* music sound they have to leave the home amateur cards well alone - period! They said the DMX 6 Fire is probably the "best" non-pro sound card at the moment, especially for recording...but the *real deal* starts with something like the "M Audio Delta 44 Pro Audio Card" which sells for around $270 USD, or the "Delta 66" at $399 USD, and so on upwards.... http://digitalaudioworks.com/manufacturers-f-r-midiman-m-audio-sound-cards.html I've been using the Audigy Plat for two weeks now and I'm definately not satisfied....I gues I fell for all the CL hype BIG time, I should've done more research before I made a decision to buy - *sigh* Ce la vie :-) and the beat goes on! KEV
  10. Justin - how old are you? Haven't you heard - LED ZEP are the best band ever! :-) KEV
  11. OK...so, to satisfy MY own curiosity, as to which is the bettter speaker system, I went down our local CompuSmart store here in Toronto and got the Z-560's for a trial run. Thank goodness for the 15 day return policy with no questions asked - eh :-) Anyhow, I set the Z-560's up to the rig....and tried various tests. I've got the Audigy Plat soundcard with front bay connectivity, etc. 1) The regular CD and Mp3 playback quality is pretty good at a low to mid volume range....BUT once you crank the volume up...the Z560's sound very treble "metalic" like with a lot of high-end hiss, and at kick-*** levels the quality deteriorates to a point where it's downright dreadful... 2) The subwoofer seemed OK on some tunes, but rather un-balanced (ratio wise) on others, although not too bad overall - I guess. On some songs I had to turn the WINXP mixer bass down to zero, just to avoid SUB *BOOM* distortion. The sub is heavier/bigger (at 180 Watts RMS) than the Prom media sub, and looks just as good. 3) When I plugged my guitars in (thru my Line6 POD or Flextone II synthesizer amps) and into the Audigy front panel, that's when I noticed a real difference between the Pro Media's and Z560's. The SAT speakers on the Z560 can't handle even a moderate volume. High-gain lead riffs made the speakers BUZZ/HISS/ZAP pretty bad...I don't have this problem at all with the Pro Media's 4.1. 4) The overall depth & quality of sound is much warmer, better and cleaner with the Klipsch 4.1's and it doesn't deteriorate at the higher volume levels, at least, not on my set-up....I can turn the front bay VOL almost up to MAX on the Audigy Drive before any (white noise) is audible. Not so with the Z560's. The Z560's are quite well made, although I personally don't like the 'cheap plastic' look of the central desktop controller. The *M3D* surround sound feature that is "hyped" so much on the various web reviews does add a little "pronounciation" to the overal 3D experience and seperation,...but it's nothing to write home about...in fact, with the *M3D* turned OFF, I found the Z560's sound performace very flat & dull. To summerize, I guess the Z560's are quite good value for the buck ($199 CAD /$124 USD here in Canada)...but IMO the price tag truly gives it away...they just don't match up to the KLIPSCH 4.1's. In the end...you get what ya pay for - right? I'm keeping my PM 4.1's :-) KEV
  12. Hi folks, I've been reading a lot of detailed online reviews this week that compare the KL 4.1's with the Logitech Z560 setup. Surprising enough (to ME anyways :-), most of them say that the Z560 system has the better (and more reliable) sound quality, and at $138 USD, it's less than half the price of the Klipsch. I notice that they both have a total output of 400W (RMS)...PLUS, all the reviewers seem to highly praise the Z560's " *M3D* feature really produces a great surround sound when activated. I must admit, I'm a bit skeptical simply because of the huge price difference, and the Logitech stuff does LOOKS a much cheaper quality product from the web photo's....BUT, I haven't actually heard them... So, give me the scoop guys... 10 - 4, over, KEV
