  2. My K-Horns are finished...
(Sorry if you are on the FB group, this is a repeat)

I contacted Klipsch to get a set of 70th anniversary badges as mine never had any (customized decorators)... but they don't have them...

So - I found an ebay seller who makes reproduction badges.  I sent him a pic of the 70th anniversary badge and a scan of my original labels with the script Klipschorn logo and he came up with a very nice design that is quite close to both the script and the style of the 70th anniversary badge.

    Here is the result:

Are there La Scala badges availible?

  3. I have a beautiful and completely re-capped/restored Marantz 1060. This is an early model, four digit serial number, with engraved champagne face plate and extra internal bracing. It has a custom made and flawless walnut case made by Cartwright’s Cabinets in SO Michigan. All electrolytic capacitors were replaced with quality Nichicon, Wima and Elna caps depending on location and function. Various troublesome transistors and resistors were replaced. New thermal compound applied to the output transistors. All functions and internal components were cleaned and lubed. I have all the old parts that will be included.  It works without any issues and sounds awesome. The only cosmetic issue is someone, not me, tried to shove a polarized plug into one of the auxiliary outlets. The top is a bit cracked. I don’t have the original pre/main jumpers but installed AudioQuest jumpers. I hate to part with it but I have too much gear and other priorities. Sorry, I am road kill on the modern devices. I haven’t quite figured out how to reduce the size of the pictures. I can send additional pictures to interested members. I’m asking $550 for it but will consider reasonable offers. This is for local pickup in Redding, CA. I am willing to travel a bit for the right deal. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you!

  4. Extremely easy, my dog could do it  [emoji3] Takes about one beer for each or 2 bottles of wine for all 6.

    Cheers, Emile

Oh yes I could repace the tweeter diaphragm once I have finished this chapter on astrophysics0ce2e80f6101a08bc55ac379aaeffa7a.jpg

Thanks for all the help/advice! Update: I was offered $50 to keep these, and I declined. They will be going back. Hassle yes, but I will start saving for another pair. Shakey: Yes, that makes sense but I'll note that blemished was not disclosed by the seller -- and certainly not dented up like it was. A member of another forum received a pair with similar damage to mine. I'd like to think they didn't leave the factory - or wouldn't have allowed them to leave the factory that way. Who knows for sure when they were damaged. At any rate, I wanted to post in case anyone else had a similar experience. I hope the return goes OK, and thanks for the advice about alternative dealers. I could have dealt with some slight blemishes in the veneer -- e.g. slight discolorations, had that been disclosed for the price. But these were pretty beat up.

Sam if you are spending your hard earned cash then they need to be immaculate, no scraps, no blemishes, no discoloration, Just MINT condition, irrelevant of how much they cost these are sold as new and that means new,

I would be speaking to Klipsch about their dealer selling damaged goods, this is bad for the company and especially if it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the buyer, and prevents buyers from buying

    good luck

So I decided to give the Cornwall III a fair shot in my room.  I hadn't spent the proper amount of time with positioning them and was using mediocre gear at the time with them.  WOW, they have come alive.  They don't quite have the perfect balance of the heresys to my ears in my room as I am quite limited on their placement.   But they Def sound as big as they physically are and have killer bass when pulled away from the wall a foot for me.  My question is, comparing Forte iii to Cornwall III in the same room with the same gear, can someone give me your input of the differences to your ears, pro and cons?  The Forte III would Def fit in here better and more than likely give me the bass response I am looking for.  Thanks.

Hey brother how big is the room and can you take a pic of it

  8. Deano, don't know if I missed this but are you subbing your new Cherry LS 2's? If so, with what?
Hey SonicMan no im not subbing them as the bass for me is spot on, In my room a sub is not needed,

I was a little worried that many people on this forum were saying that I might need a sub

This is not the case the LSIIs have superb bass and its very acurate

Obviously this is purely my POV others may need to add a sub depending on taste and room acoustics/layout

    Cheers

  9. Well ... wasn't looking forward to eating BigMac's and having to live in the "other side" of the house, but if the sound is worth it I could do it [emoji3]

OK, heard them before but wanted to be sure. So; went to visit a friend (100 mi roundtrip) to check out his LS II's (w/ Oppo player and Mac MC275's).  Very impressed with the awesome very clear and defined bass sound; also liked the mid/high range.  Got back home and fired up my KPT-904's (w/ a cheaper Oppo and a cheaper Marantz) ... bass digs a little bit deeper, but not as "refined."  But the 510 horns (with 3" B&C drivers) made the decision for me. Sorry, but IMHO much better than the LS's. Know I'll hear about that [emoji3]
So, decided NOT to get them [emoji20]  Probably will regret it when the sale is over [emoji20] but meanwhile I'll continue to drink good wine instead of "two buck chuck." [emoji3]

    Cheers, Emile

PS, Played the same music on both ... Beethoven's 9th, Tchaikovsky 1st violin concerto, Pavarotti, Genesis, Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Pink Floyd and Cream [emoji4]
PS2, Even got my wife to say "OK; if you really want them, get them ...." [emoji3]

Add-on ... think I have decided to get some Jubilees ... if I can ever find them
Wow that was an excellent decsion for you then and it was great you could demo a pair [emoji6]

Funny how your wife said if you really want them you can have them

Did you manage to spot what was on the page of the prada catalogue she was reading when she said that lol

    Cheers

  10. Just thinking about this now...  You can blame Floyd for this since I just finished "Echos."  Sooooo, if you have 2 pair of speakers and you're sitting there @ Maccas eating that double cheeseburger w/a side order of vegemite all happy n stuff,  then it hits you...  One pair with a left and right channel, which channel will she take?  The second pair with a left and right channel also...  She could take the both channels of ONE pair, OR opt out and take a left (or right [emoji41]) channel of EACH pair...  Then she might believe they are all Left or Right channels.  Deano, my friend, both you and Emile are doomed I'm thunkin,  That Venus and Mars thing will come into play from them at some point when you LEAST expect it..  Am I over-thinking all of this???  .[emoji23][emoji23][emoji41]

Lol hey im good in the last 3 months I have bought CW IIIs and La Scala IIIs and my wife didnt even batter an eyelid lol

Its Emile that is doomed [emoji15]

  11. The over/under isn't what scares me.  It's the fact I can't wait to hear what Emile has decided to do!  Cave or Man-up and forget about the vino and lobster and start dining by himself and eating #3 McValue Meals!  [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji41]
Hey if McValue meals = more speakers then trips to maccas it is [emoji4]

  13. Haha ... "I" am not the problem ... trying to figure out how to sell this to my wife [emoji20]  Last time I bought a pair of speakers for $1000, she went on a shopping spree in New York ... cost me about 5 times that [emoji20] . So; these La Scalas would probably cost me about 6 x $5700 = $34,200 ... Jeez [emoji20]
Lol oh you are totally screwed [emoji16]

  14. Jeez ... very tempting [emoji3]  Only $5600 [emoji4]  Hell; made three times that in the market today [emoji3]  But they would be replacing my KPT-904's which I "just" got and absolutely love [emoji20]  Going to have some vino before I decide [emoji3]
Vino then decision lol - so you are definitely buying then [emoji4]

  15. Already posted this over on Audiokarma, so apologies to members of both, but I figured it was time to join this forum as well.

Thanks to the one and only Edroom and his annual audio yard sale I was able to purchase these beautiful giants yesterday. These are my first "big" set of speakers and they already sound fantastic even with the original capacitors in the crossovers. Even had the energy to stop at Home Depot on my way home for some pipe insulation to seal 'em to the walls.

    The details:
    1972 Klipschorn Model B's
    "M75" Mahogany finish, NOT lacquered
    AA crossovers

I absolutely, 100% recommend buying from Ed if you ever have the chance. Nice guy, fair prices, and an impressive collection.

  16.
First things first, listen for a while (month or two) before making any rash judgements... try listening to a few basic positions with time investment in those placements before moving to the next.

With my preferences for slightly away from a wall is like the different between the sound you get when you cup your hand around your ear... I prefer to have an airy spatial open quality than I do for laser focus.

My speakers are between 5" and 10" from the front wall (because of the toe)... but my room is considerably larger than your is.
Understood thanks, the cardas postion is definitely working for me so will probally stick with that

On a side note how many hours burn in for LS IIs is recommended if any?

  17. Wow thanks Gary, the information you provide is outstanding thank you

I will have a play over the weekend and report on how it goes

    Thanks again

One of the characteristics of good horn loaded speakers is that they reveal differences between recordings.  Some voices are thin and crisp, others "round" and crisp, and others bassy and thick.  I imagine you are trying many voices on many recordings, right?

As to placement, as Schu said, there are shades of grey.  Try moving the speakers around little by little ...

I don't think bass nodes are cancelled by corner placement; part of the corner controversy is around whether corners help or harm in smoothing out the response.  Good looking graphs, and -- whatever they are called -- energy maps or energy photos have been published that seem to support both sides.  This has been going on for about 35 or 40 years.  It may be safe to say it depends on the speaker design, the room, and the seating position.  Or not.  Modes, nodes and nulls, oh my!  Loudspeaker position and how they are aimed, seating position of the listener, room proportions, room treatments, inc bass traps, etc all may count in any given instance..

One of the recurring problems is that people quote the same statements over and over again until they become factoids in the original Norman Mailer sense, before CNN destroyed the meaning.   So, I will now do the very same thing; I'll quote an expert.  The following is a quote from an article called "The LEDE Concept" in Audio Magazine, August 1987, by Don Davis.*  "Paul Klipsch's advocacy of corner placement for the past 50 years is still correct.  Corner placement has the following advantages: the entire audience coverage angle is within 90 degrees, polar control is excellent at specular frequencies, and the best low-frequency modal response in acoustically small rooms is obtained."   [bolding mine]

    * "Don Davis and his wife, Carolyn, founded Synergetic Audio Concepts in 1972. Don and Carolyn are both Fellows of the Audio Engineering Society.  Don is a senior member of the IEEE and a gold member of the Acoustical Society of America. Don and Carolyn received dual lifetime achievement awards from NSCA, the Adele De Berri Pioneers of Audio award from InfoComm International, and the USITT Harold Burris-Myer Distinguished Career in Sound Design Award. Both Don and Carolyn were recipients of Indiana's highest citizen award from the Governor when they were made Sagamore of the Wabash (!) for their contributions to education."  From Google Books.
