  1. HDBR, If I enter, should I include the chapter about how I pictured, mentally, my crossovers were made? Chem
  2. Oh my god! The only advice I would have to offer is to completely let it dry before you do anything. Treating it now will only seal the water in and hamper the natural drying process, as it will still be transforming until all the moisture has evaporated. Beyond that, I dont know what to do!
  3. Hola' dndphishin! Whats the status of your project? Is it still on for May? The "Beast is Lurking to be Unleashed" has had me curiously awaiting to see what you have. Is it an electrical ,driver, horn, cabinet etc. mod? ChemPharma This message has been edited by ChemPharma on 05-14-2002 at 11:54 AM
  4. Hi all, rather than post a e-bay selling and give them a cut, I will sell here on the BB to the highest offer received by sat morning, May, 18 at 8:00 AM (EST).MY Ebay id is chempharma (great feedback, I am honest and don't mess around) I have a pair of 78' AA balancing networks not in use off of my LaScalas. I have upgraded to the ALK network and dont need to set around. These work and sound excellent. No leaks, etc. The tranformers are clean and look worn, but hell, they always have looked that way. I will sell to the highest secret offer and the price will include free priority shipping to US. I will set a 50.00 reserve though, Hell it will cost half of that probably to ship priority?, but I'm not interested in making money here!If you dont like them, I will refund money less shipping. E-mail my work address at bradley.roberts@e-pat.com to place bid or e-mail my posted e-mail on Klipsch: chempharma@earthlink.net or call me at 703-823-3598(H) or 703-412-4866(W)Call before 10:00pm eastern time to ask questions or whatever. I am in northern Virginia (DC area). Send postal money order to: Brad Roberts C/o PatPro Chemistry Dept. 2001 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Suite 309-a Arlington, Va. 22202 Thanks, Brad This message has been edited by ChemPharma on 05-18-2002 at 07:31 AM

  6. Hi Al! Fletcher-Munson. Fletcher, who died in the 70's worked for Bell labs and was the "father of audiometry". Here is the low level Fletcher-Munson listening curve attached. See Fig. 2 Equal Loudness Curves You will see lots of references to equal loudness curves or equal loudness contours- these are based on the work of Fletcher and Munson at Bell labs in the 30s, or perhaps refinements made more recently by Robinson and Dadson. These were made by asking people to judge when pure tones of two different frequencies were the same loudness. This is a very difficult judgement to make, and the curves are the average results from many subjects, so they should be considered general indicators rather than a prescription as to what a single individual might hear. Fig 2. Equal loudness contours or Fletcher-Munson curves The numbers on each curve identify it in terms of phons, a unit of loudness that compensates for frequency effects. To find the phon value of an intensity measurement, find the db reading and frequency on the graph, then see which curve it lands on. The interesting aspects of these curves are that it is difficult to hear low frequency of soft sounds, and that the ear is extra sensitive between 1 and 6 kilohertz. 7. builder, I thought my joke was clever! And its original! I have only lived here in Virginia (d.c. vicinity)area a few years, primarily in response to a job offer to practice my profession. My family and I are from rural GEORGIA where we had two working farms. I'm a southern boy! Today, I work in an industry with fellow scientists and snobby patent lawyers with little to no sense-of-humor, let alone spontaneity or wit! I dont think you would want my discussions to be based from an acoustical or electrical engineering stance continuously. A nerve has obviously been struck with this thread, and others I've seen, for you seem to have a sense of duty as an active moderator having anything to do with Arkansas, PWK, or Klipsch speakers. I appreciate your input as a cabinet builder for Klipsch for a number of years. You truly offer a lot to this board.I love audio, and I am interested in any ideas from this BB to improve my speakers' sound. But, I think you are making/taking this too personal. For I made a joke of a ficticious fat lady, having nothing to do with you, and you have this sense of urgency to respond (moderate) with your sanity comments made to be directed at me. Take it easy man! By the way, the the obsession with powdered sweaty fat women from Arkansas is not a latent development. I've been fascinated with them since I was two. 8. Cjk1026 and all, get this! That same big fat lady who soldered my AA networks from her porch on a hot humid day was finally released yesterday after being mistakenly arrested at the airport in Little Rock for cocaine possession. An anonymous female local tip/witness at the airport bathroom spotted the huge lady, describing her as wearing a short dress with a large amount of a white hard/crusty substance caked between her legs. Local deputies responding quickly, intercepted her at the baggage claim, where they lifted up her dress and claimed to have unfolded/unraveled a huge amount of crack. She was later released after federal authorities explained to the local deputies the difference between crack cocaine and powdered butt crack. 9. Neek and JM, Thanks for your input! I'll look into it. ChemPharma
  10. Hardhead, I have the old round alnico magnets also (78' K-77's). I think the 5-2 setting is a good place to start as well. I opted for the 3-0 however, after switching back and forth. The 4-X is right between the two, and I think Al incorporating the number 4 wire and connector from here on out is a good move! I bet the 4-x is the sweet spot for many of us! There are a number of factors though as you say; speaker model (khorns or scalas, k-77M or k-77, ampiflication-Class A, tube etc..). 11. Al, I think you answered my last question in your original post. At a 5-2 setting, you said this actually puts the squawker at about 1.5 db lower dB (5-2 @4.6 dB, then stock = about 6.1dB)than "stock".This explains why the 4-x seems favorable (putting it closest, at 6.2, to the original/"stock" ouput level, except cleaner and more detailed). I would like to try that setting sometime once I decide to solder a new wire and plug. The 3-0 setting will suffice for now. So, I think the results thus far are that we prefer the settings close to the "stock" or higher (4-x @theoretical 6.2dB vs. 6.1 stock and 3-0 @6.7 dB or .6 dB > "stock"), not lower. 12. Neek, What kind and gauge wire did you use here. I have thought about doing the same, but wondered if it would be audible. ChemPharma
  13. What is the "stock" setting on the AA network Al? This message has been edited by ChemPharma on 05-03-2002 at 07:23 AM
  14. Hey Al. I agree with those revised numbers. I think the 4-x setting should be there too! Its right around the sweet spot (FOR ME) between 5-2 to 3-0! Next time your in the D.C. area, bring your tool apron and stop in and revise mine.. Would ya? ChemPharma
  15. I wonder if mine were made while they watched the Andy Griffeth Show. I wonder if mine were made while they all sat around passing gas on collards and fatback; or did the man who make mine have a beer gut and hemorrhoids; or was it a hot summer, wherein my were made by a big fat lady on the porch, sweating, with the baby powder caking up between her legs; or........Im out a control... I knew I should of put a methyl group on the alpha-carbon and started with a half dose This message has been edited by ChemPharma on 05-02-2002 at 08:03 PM
