  1. Is he out and about? Anybody know? Been trying to get some info to him since Sunday.
  2. Is he out and about? Anybody know? Been trying to get some info to him since Sunday.
  3. Looking for a large "G" case for my Scott 296. Anybody have one they would like to sell? Any help in locating one will greatly appreciated.
  4. .....and I am picking up a pair next Sunday! Oops, wrong thread. I thought this was that 7 word sentence continuance game thread.
  5. Great stuff Max, you rabble rouser you.
  6. If they do in fact have the "AA" networks, this may ultimately end up being a non-issue. I have already built two sets of nice ALK's so I may do it a third time for these anyway. Or buy a set of the OEM copies of the "A" network from Bob Crites(BEC).
  7. Thanks Tom, sounds great! Are you talking about the little Zener jobs in the "AA"'s?
  8. I will be picking up a pair of '67 KB-WL's this coming Sunday and was wondering which drivers would normally/most likely be OEM for that model year. Any thoughts/input will be greatly appreciated.
  9. Thanks for all the kind words folks, very kind. This sort of thing is an absolute labor of love. Sometimes it gets frustrating because I can be a little on the anal side. I finished a pair of Heresys just before starting the Corns. They were beat up HBR's that actually got new cabinets instead of veneer. ALK's too! I will post some pics of those when I can. Fini, Nope, sorry, yours have to go first my friend! Piranha, Yesterday morning I finally finished my end of the 296. I cleaned and polished the chassis and tube shields, installed a new power cord(stock one was shot)and sanded and painted the transformers(in place, talk about a B!@#$). Man, it is one impressive piece of gear, it is BEAUTIFUL! Not perfect/flawless but really close. I am shipping it to Craig today for the whole enchilada. Tubes I have gathered(which I am thrilled about to say the least)for this beauty are as follows: 4)NOS/NIB Mullard KT-66(probably GEC made) 2)NOS/NIB Mullard(Marconi)5AR4 3)NOS/NIB Amperex 6U8 6)Telefunken NOS 12AX7 "Smooth Plate"(I have 6 NOS Mullards I was going to use but decided on the Teles. I will do some rolling with these when it comes back). As stated earlier, I will be using the 296 with a set of Walnut Khorns that I will be picking up this Sunday .
  10. Good job Trey. That kind of thing just has no place here.
  11. Dean, Can you imagine trying to stack the woofer circuit with Thetas on this size board, YIKES! What happened was I had already completed the networks using all Solen caps when I decided to change to AudioCap. Well, after all the time it takes to do a decent job on ALK's, I was not about to strip them and build bigger boards and start over. Rack 'em and stack 'em baby! .
  12. Digitally restored labels applied and Cardas binding posts installed. I originally intended to aniline dye these in Dark Wine Red with black OEM/Klipsch cloth to match the Cherry and Mahogany furniture already in the room in which the Corns WERE to reside. But since I scored a beautiful set of KB-WL's this weekend(yeah baaaaby!!!!)and cannot keep the Corns when complete, I am thinking of using Tung Oil only which turns the Cherry a beautiful golden color with brown grain and using OEM/Klipsch brown cloth to bring out the grain....man they will look sweeeet. Then at some point(when completed)offer them up here on the board to whomever may like them. Let me qualify that last statement though. I WILL NOT sell these Corns before Fini finds a home for his beauties. These will not be ready for some time anyway.
  13. Another shot of the ALK's. Oh, Thanks so much for your help Mr. Klappenberger.
  14. Competed ALK's anxiously awaiting signal from my soon to be rebuilt Scott 296.
  15. These started out as really beat up 1981 COL with cane grilles. Cabinets have been repaired/filled and veneered in beautiful flat-cut Cherry. All black surfaces have been stripped, filled, sanded and repainted better than factory. The inside of the cabinets have been painted also so you do not see raw wood through the ports with the grilles off. New grilles using OEM fabric from Klipsch. New cabinet(internal)damping material, new internal wiring and ALK Networks(built by me). I replaced the suggested resistors with Mills and replaced the Solen caps in the Squawker and tweeter circuits with conditioned(by me, thanks Leo)AudioCap PPT Thetas. All new internal wiring. The tags on the back of the cabinet were scratched, torn/scuffed, etc., so I carefully sliced them off the backs, scanned them into my PC, restored them to better than new and reprinted them on identical size sticky back paper and reapplied. I will keep originals of course. Should be much better than new if that is possible. I will post more pics as they become available. Oh, this is my first attempt at posting pics, if they are too big or anything, please let me know.
  16. This is my first attempt at posting pics, so I thought I would use my Cornwall project as a Guinea Pig. These Corns started out as beat up 1981 COL with cane grilles. They are getting new ALK(built by me)networks with Solen inductors, Mills resistors and AudioCap PPT Thetas in place of Solens in the squawker and tweeter circuits. New cabinet damping material, new internal wiring. I painted the interior of the cabinets as well so you cannot see raw wood through the ports with the grilles off. All black surfaces have been sanded, filled and repainted. I even carefully sliced off the tags on the back, which were scratched, torn, etc. scanned them into my PC, restored them to better than new condition, reprinted them on same size sticky back paper and reapplied them(pics to follow on this). Kept the originals of course. Anyway, these are going to be much better than new. Oh, new grilles too, using OEM from Klipsch.
  17. Nice flow of grain from sides to top.
  18. Cornwalls with baffle boards stripped, filled and repainted and flat-cut Cherry veneer applied. Awaiting sanding.
  19. Caig has a wonderful line of products for cleaning/preserving. You can find most of their products at www.partsexpress.com.
  20. Way to go WP. I am green with envy! Hey, that may just come in handy on St.Pats day.
