  1. the warranty had already expired as the unit is about 1 and a half years old. Having an A+ certification, I was essentially implying that the circuit board and components of these receivers (namely, capacitors, resistors, etc) are the same if not almost exactly the same as the components found on motherboard in computers, which I am licensed to repair. In other words, I know how these things work, I'm not an idiot who opens up his unit and ESD's it, and wonders what happened. But I'm still stumped
  2. As a follow up, it turns out that the fan is not a problem. I can not tell whether it is a temperature induced action or a volume induced action, but i have been successful in getting the fan to kick on through some testing. Still perturbed as to the crackling though.
  3. I am a college student with a limited budget so keep that in mind with your answers I have the Pioneer VSX-D850S. It has performed like a champ for me, being hooked up to a Synergy 6 System (yay for mediocrity!). Recently, after the receiver has been on for 4 or 5 minutes, and has warmed up, a loud constant crackle will come through on every channel. The crackle is independent of the volume, in that, it is always very very loud. I looked inside (don't worry I am a pc tech with an A+ certification, so I know what and not to do) and it appears that the problem could be maybe the power supply, which appears from outside the unit to work, or it could be an internal fan that is mated next to a huge heatsink. The fan does not turn on at the unit's power up, and doesn't seem to kick on during use. Any recommendations, experience, or opinions? Kinda stumped on this one.
  4. my parents use the VSX-850S in their home and that sucker performs, let me tell yah. Sounds fantastic with Klipsch speakers, I plan on buying another Pioneer here shortly. Only complaint is that it doesnt have on-screen command, but if you dont need to visually see receiver settings on the screen, its a match made in heaven.
  5. to do that you would have to run coyote linux on the server.... or yuo could just get a wireless access point and a wireless card which is more expensive than a 75ft cable anyways lol is it me or does it sound like Ive worked for COMPusa for 3 years with valid, yet totally helpless answers?
  6. I think I finally figured out in my head how to do this the right way. If anyone else here has integrated their computer into their home theatre please tell us how you did it. For my dorm room, I'll run s-video from my video card to a receiver, and from the sound card, unless I decide to upgrde to a hercules and go optical so I can have 5.1, I will run a 2.5 mm audio jack directly into an RCA left and right connection and into the standard audio input on the receiver, thereby bypassing the OHM differentiation problem (4--8). Then out to my babies for some sweet sound. Now I'm just getting excited
  7. lol and you're right, I wouldn't be one of them I was just thinking a nice sounding 2 channel system for my PC, one that would surpass the promedia's abilities... Receiver, 2 bookshelfs, cables bada bing bada boom any suggestions?
  8. Let's assume a non-broke college student's budget hehe
  9. Well after a year of dancing around in audio land with the others, my Promedias have begun to lack the, how you say, oomph and quality that I desire. So here's what I want to do. I want to get a moderately low-end 2-channel receiver and be able to hook it up to my computer, aka a 3.5 mm audio connection. So heres what I need: Receiver recommendation Bookshelf speaker recommendation for that particular receiver Cable recommendation Essentially what Im asking is for everyone to pitch their desktop dream system any thinkers out there?

  11. Seriously, what do you guys think of Wilson Audio? Their products? Their pricetag? Although this is a Klipsch oriented forum, I'm sure someone here (Horned?) has heard some Wilson equipment and has something to say
  12. System 6 all the way there is no comparing to do
  13. How about this idea Thousands of electrostatic grids that act as a 2nd layer that goes over a bigscreen. Then where the people's mouths are, or where sound is coming from on screen like verbally, that section of electrostatic layer is power and vibrates causing sound to literally come from the screen. Oh boy, im getting chills
  14. Has anyone heard of those new yet primitive thingies that you can put on any surface like glass, etc and it will use it as a sounding board? How about a home theater with technically no speakers. How about the walls being used as sounding boards by reverse innerwall mounted sound producers, like a large scale version of these thingies. Sounding ceiling tiles would be the equivelent of your ceiling accoustics =] Perhaps tile flooring that acts as subwoofer output?
  15. On this one please check your brand favoritism at the door. Which would be better, theoretically: A Quintet 6.1 system with quintets all the way around and a KSW-10 sub or any Bose Accousticmass blah blah system with a 6.1 setup?
  16. How do you do it? Just through general use? Is there a certain method you should go through? Perhaps a type of music that encompasses the most Hz? Anyone?
  17. Ahem..... have we forgotten in the next 7 years that all TV broadcasts (both satellite and local channels) will be in HD and in 16:9? Its not just movies and games we are looking at here guys, in 5 years all tv will be 16:9. Don't regret your purchase BTW, I just bought a Mitsubishi 46809 its a 46 inch 16:9 tabletop HDTV. LOVE IT. I'd disown a member of my own family before my baby got taken away from me. This message has been edited by Cory on 05-08-2002 at 09:00 PM
  18. I know but i need a convincing argument that gets over the looks of the system. My idiotic mother seems like she is utmost concerned with something that looks good, and she just doesn't understand. I'm going to be in a dream machine hell. thanks for replying doug
  19. Some woman at a hifi room has convinced my mother to buy a Sony DreamMachine piece of crap instead of buying a Klipsch system. My mother thinks all I want is just to have the Klipsch speakers. These sony's are HORRIBLE. Someone please post proof for her that the sony's suck and that Klipsch is better. Or I'm going to be stuck with this dreammachine like a DISEASE. HEEEEEEEELP
  20. thanks doug my budget is pretty firm, but will it sound reasonably bad if i match the surroun SS.5's with the from SB-2's?
  21. Hey all =] This is my first time posting on the board, but not first time reading. I'm a Klipsch promedia fanatic that climbed the ladder, so to speak ;D We will be moving to a new house and I have decided (not totally) on the following setup because i have a budget of around 1500 for speakers. Was wondering if anyone had feedback, negatives, or suggestions for me since im a virgin here SB-2 Fronts SC 5.5 Center SS.5 surrounds KSW-12 sub This is obviously a synergy 6 system with a few tweaks. I read like 1000 reviews and many suggested up-in the sub from the KSW-10 to the 12 for power. And the Sb-1's looked a little weak to me for fronts. Anyone? Plz
