  1. August 6th is around the corner and already I’ve seen a few articles lamenting the decision and pining about the travails of the ‘survivors’. There’s no question that WW2 was horrific. It was horrific before we were involved. And it is not unusual for scholars and lay people alike to ponder the choices made during such hard times. But there’s this tendency to flail America endlessly for the use of the atomic weaponry, as though Japan was a peace loving nation that was mercilessly slaughtered. Rarely, as in VERY rarely do you ever see articles about the horrors facing America and Americans leading up to the decision to deploy such a ghastly weapon. My father-in-law was at Okinawa. He knew 1st hand what to expect if we actually invaded Japan. Regardless we cannot put the genie back in the bottle. Given what we know now atomic weaponry would most certainly have evolved somewhere besides America and perhaps used in anger in some other wartime application. I am writing this only because of the apologists who annually set about handwringing over this ‘’travesty’’. They were not there. They were not in Shanghai nor in Manila. Instead of soliciting America to knee bending guilt trips they should be honest. The postage stamp should show the Enola Gay and it should read, ‘’we’re sorry you made us do this to you.’’ https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/bloody-hell-okinawa-180975148/
  2. Well executed....... Do you obtain scrape carpet from vendors?
  3. Dunno about liberals but there’s no zombie problems here. The real fun is when kids are around for the event. They get full sun for about 2 hours, when they get sun and they really do sparkle every cranny of that room. The kids are like at Disneyland.
  4. Watched a special on competitive chicken shows (pageants) and they’re some serious breeder wars in that hobby. One guy could trace the genetics of his ‘prize’ birds back some 50 generations or more. He was a tad OCD.
  5. Get some OTC crystal prisms for your vaulted windows. I have 3 full orb prisms set up in my high windows and they rainbow sparkle the living great room for 4 months of the year - 2 in spring and 2 in fall.
  6. So do those come in kits? Seems like it’d be impossible to scrounge materials to make that image. Ever consider quilting?
  7. Ageism......... https://theconversation.com/coronavirus-shows-how-ageism-is-harmful-to-health-of-older-adults-138249
  8. Not so sure. The ‘mutant’ covid19 strain China claims is causing this outbreak is a strain found elsewhere and it supposedly started in Europe months ago. I agree that their ‘wet’ markets are a nightmare and they certainly have the potential to percolate and spread novel viruses. But they’re more of a general epidemiological disaster conveying more common pathogens. Where humanity gets into trouble with new pathogens is when humanity encroaches on unexplored regions where the fauna have hosted odd pathogens forever, any one of which if loosed on humanity could be ugly because we’ve never been exposed to it before.
  9. News on the new China covid19 outbreak, written by China and not peer reviewed. They report that the initial strain of covid19 does not impart any immunity to the ‘mutant’ strain that now is the predominant form of the virus. It’s unclear whether this means there’s ‘never’ any immunity imparted to ‘any’ form of the virus. And they claim to have cultured the covid19 virus from the “mouths of salmon” from their exceedingly filthy open air market. Curiouser and curiouser. https://www.scmp.com/coronavirus/greater-china/article/3089983/coronavirus-recovered-chinese-patients-may-be-defenceless
  10. America is being laid bare by covid19. Looks like many at the brink now feel compelled to act, instead of stew. For me, the biggest issue was, and is - long term care for the elderly. It crosses all gender and racial lines and will absolutely impact every one of us who manages to reach those ‘infirm’ years. With regard to covid19 this is also the most deadly issue outside of a shooting war America has experienced in a century. Despite 10’s of thousands of covid19 dead nursing home care is not ‘major’ headlines. The silence is stunning. If they were children or of any specific ethnicity America would be outraged demanding explanations and improvements. Thoughts? https://www.npr.org/2020/06/21/880945464/nursing-homes-struggle-as-staff-choose-unemployment-checks-over-paychecks
  11. If the work agreed on is typical composition and of a reasonable size we can crank it out in less than a week. Flowered window panels would describe that. But ask for a picture of a 1973 hemicuda boiling its tires and you’re in for a much longer haul and some hefty $$$$$$.
  12. Sculpting stuff takes real talent. All I do with glass is build the art. You use what your given and must have the vision and skills to release the art within. We keep some wood around to integrate into some pieces. The wife drags all sorts of stuff home to play ‘mixed media’ with.
  13. There are several manufacturers of art glass. Some are made for stained glass, some for fusing and some for mosaics. They come in a surprising array of colors and textures. Some are consistently the same (predictable) and others are unique each time. It’s fascinating and challenging at the same time. It is very difficult to choose the best glass for a particular piece. I’ll rummage through our stock for days and can’t make up my mind. I’ll think I want ‘new’ glass instead. Then in the middle of the night you have an ‘aha’ moment and in 10 minutes the chore is done. You can buy glass online and we have just 1 specialty store and hobby lobby that sells the stuff locally. But our best ‘buys’ have been from stores going out of business or from people like us who decided to stop. Then you can get some amazing glass that’s old and no longer available. Another option is decorator window glass. Shower door glass is often patterned. Cutting glass into intricate shapes can be done with glass saws. Getting the pattern on the glass for the right ‘show’ in a way that stays visible while using a water saw is hard. Then you grind the piece for a perfect fit......... and you’ll have to accommodate space for copper foil and solder for it to look correct and fit the size. The garage is our workshop and it’s full. The wife did these 2. She does a lot of horses. I talked her into Frankenstein.
  14. Essentially your making a jigsaw puzzle from scratch using colored glass. Some of the complex ones take some months from brainstorm to hanging. And we haven’t dropped one yet.
  15. Here’s a grizzly I just finished.....
  16. Yes - we live on a small lake with a nice mountain backdrop. We have resident eagles here and some other critters too.
  17. Thnx....... sort of a perfect hobby for an anal retentive perfectionist. We’ve sold quite a few items to boot.
  18. Between the wife and I we have NO empty windows.
  19. Gotta a the chicken.....

  21. Covid19 called for ‘interference’ in Louisiana. 30 members of the crimson tide are covid19 positive or in quarantine. Guess we could refer to this as the ‘crimson ‘red’ tide’. Considering some of the accounts I’ve read covid19 can still pack a punch sometimes for ‘youngin’s too. Be interesting to see if performance for this high octane athletes is impaired. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/sec/2020/06/20/lsu-football-coronavirus-covid-19-positive-tests/3231689001/

  24. One of my great grandfather’s bought a Hudson Hornet brand new back in the day (do not know what year). He drove it from California to Missouri and back - once - then parked it. My dad bought it in the late 60’s and totaled it in a collision on Pacific Coast Hwy in Malibu. Some old gal made the mistake of turning left in front of that beast. T’wren’t pretty. Did you configure the suicide doors on your project?
