Hi guys,
I'd like to try out an interesting driver (which I have) the Faital HMF200. It's a 2" midrange and I need to find a good horn for it.
This will be done to compare with stock LaScalla K400 horn.
Any advice on a 2" horn to beat the K400 and that plays as low or LOWER than the K400?
Thanks!

Surprisingly, nothing blew up!
added some rear fill Klipsch Cinema Speakers.
definitely need limiters in a nightclub setting, but if it’s not pushed too loud, it sounds really good!

Marvel,
thanks but those will be too big. Already checked into those. So looking for ideas to work with LaScalas.
-
This is PA use, installed sound with the need for high output. I do plan to add the bracing but specifically interested if extending the conical horn section will work.
From what I read the best flare (according to Bruce Edgar is hypex - hyberbolic-exponential). I guess the LaScala is FAR from that.
However, will continuing the expansion of the conical section actually load it down properly?
-
Thanks!
I see this:
So, it looks to me like the extension could be conical, similarly to the 50-90cm "path distance." On the OTHER hand, the loading down to 80-85hz would not be happening in the conical section, right? So is this an exercise in futility?

GREETINGS!
I've got a pair of the original LaScalla 1 bass bins with K43 woofers and would like to work on them, improve this design. Bracing + reduction of doghouse volume + possible the mouth extension, all experiments for now, possible PA application, NOT home use!
As is, they roll off below 100hz, maybe 110hz. I'd like to load them down to 80-85hz. Thinking about a horn extension...
Please share your thoughts.
Has anyone modeled LaScalla 1 in Hornresp?
Has anyone tried or modeled an extension in Hornresp?
What would be a good length and width of this extension as well as the flare (would conical be acceptable)?
Thanks!

It's been up and running for a bout a month now. Hasn't been blown up yet!

I'd say the sound is pretty good! A few notes to consider:
1. passive crossovers were removed
2. using DSP for crossovers and limiting
3. now the subs and midbass and mids and tweeters are properly time aligned. It makes a big difference!
4. Tweeters replaced with DaveA's MAHLs. More durable much better sound.
5. Subwoofer ports now have grills (see photo)
post your questions if you have any!

What to say?
To me and my friend it sounds significantly better than Crown d45/75 and a bit better than the MC2. More spacious, soundstage depth, width. Better instrument timbre and much better separation of details. More nuanced.
I wish it was not $500 because I'd be a lot happier if it was $150, like the Crowns! But that's what it is.
For the $150 the Crowns are decent though, better than nothin'.

Chris thanks for sharing the EQ settings. I will be testing this setup in a few days.

The DCR readings:
D-20G, 10.4 ohm
D-20i, 6.9 ohm

I think I need help identifying if I should keep the diaphrams installed with the larger VC or replace with the spare set that has the shorter VC.

Marvel,
K43 woofers in the LS cabinets. Yes, there is a left mid/high section for left stack as well! Actually, I took them apart:
My K55v drivers came with a pair of spare diaphragms. What I discovered is the dipahrams inside my K55v are different from the spare set. The voice coils are much different. See photos. Can you help identify? What's what here?
Are the higher power diphragms installed and the original set is spare?

Seven feet high may be OK but on the tall side. Definately, grills will be installed. My concern is the 400hz xover and the matching of double versus single midbass to the mid/high section.

So these piezo tweeters sound good? I've never used one so some feedback on the SQ would be appreciated.
Also, keeping the single K55v is enough?
-
I figured. However!
If someone cares to contribute any bits and pieces of the puzzle, I will gather the facts as they come in. Any advice or info will be greatly appreciated
