those rosewood CW's are stunning... enjoy them.

anyone have an idea of how many were created? one pair?

not sure how many total but the ebay seller has another 6 left. ive been eyeballing these for awhile also. i was concerned with crazy low price but now seeing a forum member with them is a bit of a relief.

  2. big mahalo to everyone. truly appreciate all your input. i know that in a few years we are remodeling and the room will be much bigger. trying to use that as a selling point to the wife. buy these and we dont have to get "bigger" or more speakers later.

  3. thanks to the both of you. what should i "listen" for? he is the second owner of these and only has it setup to his avr which is what it would do until a suitable amp can be bought. lastly, would this be too much for our small 14' x 30' room? apologies for all the questions.

w/i easy drive for me... 3 hour of freeway ea way. my wife is quite happy with the Scalas, don't think I should push it though

same here as far as the easy drive. just want to know what i would be getting into buying a pair of these. still looking to upgrade our main area from a pair of rp600 and r120sw.

The CW II uses the K601/K52H mid crossed over at 600 Hz. The CW III uses the K701, crossed over at 800 Hz. The CW III woofer is higher on the baffle board to reduce "floor bounce" anomalies. When the CW III was announced, our forum went through a lot of hand-wringing about the midrange change, but I have yet to see any measurements that quantify the difference.

If you can see these in person and take them home yourself it sounds like deal (Crites is big plus). If they have to be shipped, insist on using Craters & Freighters so the cabs don't get crushed (voice of experience).

mahalo for the info boom3. "musically" is there a big difference. ive recently heard some cw3s that sounded amazing to me. granted not the same gear or room setup as i would have.

While the H3 stack sounds very theatre-like and satisfying with plenty of bass punch, my choice would still be a pair of Cornwalls, although I have never heard a pair of Corns. Just going by what I've read about them. I was just experimenting here and having fun.

One pair of the raw Heresy IIIs are not mine, but for a friend as the basis of his "new" system. Interestingly, two of the 4 HIIIs have sequential numbers. The other pair are about 2000 units apart from the first matched pair, and the last digits are 16 and 19, but the book matching of the grain is near identical and more figured. I guess being so close together on the production line, the veneers are still VERY similar.

What is astounding to me is how similar the H1.5 and HIII are in sound. The top end is nicer in the 1.5s, but the IIIs have slightly more bass. The IIIs are fractionally louder due to the slightly higher efficiency. However, the differences between them are very small indeed, and I would not pay the $5000 price difference between what I paid for the 1.5s and what a new pair of IIIs cost here in Oz. The 1.5s (no acoustic foam) have been recapped with Dayton Audio PMPC 1% tolerance polypro caps.

cant really tell from your pic but is that a yamaha a-s2100? if so how do you like it hooked up to the h3s?

  7. what if any are the differences between these and the cw3?... ive been looking for a set of cw3s but these are way cheaper and im about a 45min drive away. would be good to know what to look for if i can convince the wife.

just great... so now i need to ask a serious question. 4 of these "raw" heresy3 stacked like oztayls has or a pair of cornwall3s?... what is the difference in sound besides the cw3s having more "bass"?

im slowly getting back into the world of "hifi" and must say that to answer your question is 3 fold... they are beautiful no matter what paint/stain job they receive and im sure i would love them even more if you made me a pair and i could afford them :)

    aloha ods123,

im born and raised on oahu and made the move to the mainland 3 years ago. miss the island lifestyle but things change. im waiting to hear from the seller to see if he'll let me hookup my av receiver. hopefully he does so i can get accurate sound using what i already have.

I strongly and respectfully disagree w/JohnA.   I don't think there would be ANY problem with a room that size.  ..My room is larger and my cornwalls can play to crazy ear-bleed levels without any hint of strain AND the wattage meters on my amp barely crest 10 watts.  So No need for gobs of power.  Heck, the CW's will sound great with an inexpensive A/V receiver in stereo mode.  I did exactly that while my primary integrated was being serviced and the speakers still sounded fabulous.  ..Prove this to yourself.   Bring your A/V receive to the dealer and ask him/ her to hook them up.  You'll agree I think.

Edited: added pic.  As seen in the attached pic my room is about 18' wide.  ..And it's twice as deep.  Plus, 10' vaulted ceiling.

Mele Kalikimaka!  (I grew up in Hawaii.  ..Lovely place to spend Christmas!).

I don't think your space is too small for Cornwall.  Remember, these speakers are designed to be cozied up against a wall or corner.  So they don't need the usual several feet of breathing room around them.

As for Forte III or Cornwall III, I listened to both and ended preferring the Cornwalls b/c they seemed more dynamic while at the same time seemed to sound better/ more open even a the very quiet volumes I listen at during very late or very early hours.

Not that any one persons opinion should trump anothers but here is a review by a particularly earnest audiophile who has both the FIII and CWIII and ompares them in this youtube review:

Good luck.  Both are great speakers.

brother... it was these videos that got me started looking into buying some heritage speakers a few weeks ago!

I agree with yamaha. pairing a A-S801 with Forte III's. I know not as big as the cornwalls but they Gel nicely together I think.

    mahalo for the input Kman!

id really like the forte3s as it would fit much better into our space and i can always use the r120sw if we need more low end. unless i can find a smoking deal on forte3s like these cornwall3s :)
again this is purely an exercise in my head as i still need to convince my wife in letting me spend some moolah!

  13. baron167... i currently have a set of rp150m and r120sw setup to sony 7.1 receiver. i want to keep that as is since its ready to go for movies and shows.
the cornwalls will be just for music only as my wife is getting back into vinyl and shes about to collect alot of her dads this xmas. we both remember our fathers listening to classic old school speakers. my grandfather and uncle both had klipsch and they always sounded great to me. only looking at the cw3s since i can get a smoking deal on them as they both have some cosmetic damage to a few corners which i could careless about :)

  14. aloha,

as the title suggest, im thinking of purchasing a pair of cornwall3s as my one and only sound system for our home. the room it will be in is approximately 14'x30' with windows alongside the length of one of those walls. would these be considered too much sound for this space? also, we like to open the windows so we can hear things while we are playing outside with our 2 monkeys. my wife will only allow me to buy one system so im thinking to just turn up the volume if need be and enjoy things outside.
lastly, recommendations on an integrated amp to hook these up to?... hopefully something under $500 to start with for a year. need to save some money up to buy the appropriate gear to really make use of these speakers.

mahalo in advance for all your help
