  1. Spectral, I have a pair of Quintets that I'll sell you. I have a pair with original packaging and one pair without (the packaging was accidently thrown out). Both are black and in mint condition. If interested let me know. Max
  2. The usual suspects: Yamaha 2500 and the H/K 7300 are currently the top two I'm considering. I wanted to resolve my question regarding 6.1 in case I learned something to change my opinion. Both of those have 7.1, but I somply don't need the extra channel, but want to upgrade none the less. Max
  3. Bill, My existing setup is 6.1 and I really don't have the ability to add a 2nd rear surround. Given my setup I'm happy with the performance of my setup and just want to make sure a new receiver will work with that setup. Thanks again for everyone's input. Max
  4. I am in the process of upgrading receivers. I currently have a 6.1 setup and would like to maintain that with a new receiver. Most of the new receivers are 7.1. How do I maintain a 6.1 setup when the back panel for the 7.1 receivers has 2 back surrunds (my current 6.1 receiver has a "rear center" channel). If I stay with a 6.1 setup, will the 7.1 receivers be able to send a discrete signal to my one and only one rear center? I'm guessing the receiver manual will indicate that one of the back surround channels is the discrete channel in a 6.1 setup. Can you 7.1 owners clarify this for me. Thanks for your help and I aplogize if this is a dumb question. Max
  5. I bought an RC-35 a week ago and have not finalized my opinion. I would have to agree that thus far it does a better job with 6 channel music than it does with HT. I'm not saying it does a bad job, but the previous poster is correct in saying that it tends to wash deeper voices a little. I'll have some time this weekend to explore it's capabilities with HT, SACD, and 6 channel and can respond more if you'd like. I have no experience with the RC-3II.
  6. James, My advice to you is to grow your new system slowly as your budget will allow (I just saw your previos post. Are you sure you should maxing out another credit card? My best advice is get your cards paid off and then buy a new system). As I said before, the Quintets are very good for HT, but lacking for music. You said that you listened to music and because of this I think you will want more than the Quintets can offer. However, if you are set on a small wall mountable speaker, the Quintets are the best on the market. I suggest that you purchase the best center channel and front mains that you can afford. For example, you could purchase the following: - the SC-3 for $300 - the SB-3's for $350 - the KSW-12 for $500 (I would advise that you upgrade for $100 to the KSW-12. You can buy better subs in the $500 price range, but the KSW-12 is a good sub) - the Yammi for $300 (the lower distortion number means less internal noise created by the amplifier. The Pio distortion seemed a little high. The Pio and Yammi have the same number of S-video inputs) TOTAL of $1450 You can use a pair of your exsisting speakers for back surrounds until your budget allows to purchase the SS-3's. This same approach can be used if you wanted to upgrade to an even larger center and fronts and say wait on your sub until you budget allows. The choice is yours. Once you start upgrading you may never stop. Part of the fun (and agony) is buying equipment and then deciding you want something better. Good luck!
  7. James, The Quintet system is popular becasue of the speaker size and surprising sound quality. They can be mounted in vitrually any room without standing out and are very good for home theater, but only adequate for music as they cannot reporduce the full range of sound like larger speakers can. I have no experience with Pioneer, but own and love my Yamaha. Yamaha's are well built and excel at HT. If you are interested in music and have the room and budget you may want to consider larger speakers. If you can answer these questions we might be able to help you more: What is your main purpose for buying a system? What subwoofer are you considering? What is your budget?
  8. Thanks guys for your input. It sounds as if the RF-5's and RC-7 will be fine together and the RB-5's will be good for surrounds. I am planning to work on the price a little more, but it sounds as if I'm already at a decent or average deal. I will power the speakers with a Yamaha RXV-1200. I would like to upgrade, but that will wait until the next upgrade bug bites. Max
  9. So guys, will the RB-5's work well as surrounds for the RF-5's?
  10. I have the opportunity to upgrade my system to the following: *RF-5 for $1000 for the pair *RB-5 for $300 for the pair (floor model) *RC-7 for $540 Note: This would be an authorized dealer/storefront purchase. The upgrade is going into our new house (thus we have a very limited budget and simply can't afford the RF-7's now) with a 25'X25' bonus room. My wife and I use our current system for 60% music (getting into SACD) and 40% movies. -Is this a good/great price? -Will we be happy with the RB-5's as surround speakers? I'm mostly concerned about movies. I would think they would be awesome for SACD/DVD-A. -Will the RC-7 overwhelm the RF-5's? Thanks for your input. Max
  11. I am considering using a pair ISC 650 in ceiling/in walls out on my deck. The plan is to place them under the eave and in the soffit. They would be covered but "exposed". Would this "exposure" to central North Carolina elements be to extreme for these speakers. The literature states they can be used in bathrooms which is a moist environment, but not really "exposed" to the elements. All thoughts would be appreciated. Max
  12. Steve, I recently purchased a KSW-12 for my brother on this site from another member. I have a friend who is interested in your KSW-12. Questions: 1. Do you have original packaging? 2. Did you register warranty with Klipsch? 3. Are there any blemishes/scratches on the sub? 4. Is the $250 firm? 5. Does the final price include shipping? Max
  13. Augie...I have a 6.1 setup with the Yamaha RXV-1200 and have played 6.1 formatted DVD's (I have also used the 6.1 Matrix feature with great results). I use Gladiator as my test 6.1 DVD. I would strongly suggest that you use another surround sound speaker such as the SS.5 that you are currently using as surrounds. The sixth speaker is an effects speaker that works with the right and left surround. You do not get the same use out of a rear center as you do a front center. Again the rear center is only an effects speaker. Max
  14. Doug...thanks for the reply. I will check the sub volume first and try and adjust it accordingly. I have a Yamaha RXV-1200 receiver and I don't know off hand what the crossover is fixed at. I will check this out and see if it is fixed or can be adjusted?????. I will study on wiring the sub to the speaker level inputs. Thanks again, Max
  15. TheEAR, Due to maintaining harmony with my wife, the sub is in the corner behind the tv and component stand. Altering this configuration may be the best solution, but this is unlikely due to the above. Due to my wife's wish not to overkill our living room with speakers, I had to compromise and go with the Quintet system. In return I will get a bonus room above the garage in the new house and will be able to select accordingly. I viewed this as a reasonable compromise as she takes a lot of pride in the interior appearnce of the house. She has also realized the limits of the Quints when it comes to music. But they are hidden and do very well for HT. The Quints are set to small. I have experimented with a SC-1 as the center and have had good results by tweaking the inputs. I set the center to large when using the SC-1 and small with the Quint center. Still deciding which to use. The room is about 14' X 16'. When you say cut the sub to 80 hz, that would mean on the sub itself, correct? Will this "tighten-up" the sub? What do you mean by the receiver preset? Due to the speaker placement issue, is a down firing sub the best option? TheEAR, thanks for your help. Max
  16. I am new to home theater and need some guidance on how to tweak my KSW-12. Basically it sounds muddy when playing music. It sounds better (but not great) with HT. It is connected via the sub-out on the receiver. I am not experienced with HT, so please make any advice clear and simple. Thank you, Max
  17. My advice would be to get another pair of Quintets and find a sub. I have heard the KSW-12 with the Quintets and it sounded very good for HT and better than expected for music. There are other recommended subs on this forum. I'm not sure what your primary use (HT or music) will be. The SC.5 will match up very well with the Quints. You can buy the second pair of Quints and SC.5 fairly cheaply. You will then be set for HT. This is the most economical thing you can do and I think you will be surprised by the HT sound. For a AV-Receiver, many on this forum prefer Denon and Yamaha. I am partial to Yamaha and believe you get great reliability, features and sound for a fair price. Yamaha has released it's new AV-Receivers (RX-V 530, 630, & 730). They start at $399 and go to $599 (retail price). The 630 & 730 offer 6.1 and DP II. Since the Klipsch speakers are so efficient, the smaller (watts) Yamaha receivers push them very well. Any of these Yamaha receiver's will push the Quintets all you want. Either receiver will allow you move-up a few notches with your speakers before needing to replace the receiver. The KSW-12 or other sub, should also let you grow you other speakers as you learn more about your tastes, needs, and budget. Spend some time in your local HT store and listen, listen, listen and listen. Remember that everything WILL sound different in the store than at home.
  18. HornED, Thanks for your reply. I guess I will play with the placement and hopefully it will work in a location suitable to the lady of the house. I'm sure I will have more questions as I am a new to HT. I've read for many months this forum and have high regard for your advise/opinion. Thanks for your reply. Max
  19. My HT room is not ideally shaped. It has two openings (one of which is rather large). The size and shape affect placement of all speakers. Is placing the sub in the corner BEHIND the TV and component stand (they are angled across the corner) a good idea? Would this block sound? Would the sound come "up" as opposed to "out" of the corner? This corner is opposite the large opening. Max
  20. Leslie, I have been making the same considerations concerning the RC-3 or 7 with the RF-5. There have been a few responses on the HT page for my thread "RF-5 with RC-3". IMO you will be fine with either the RC-3 or 7. I think it depends on the size of your room, the amount of room you have for the center and available finances. I have listened to both, but only the RC-7 with the RF-5. I am leaning toward the RC-3, so I can place it below the TV on the stand. The store where I plan to purchase also has a one-year upgrade policy, so if I'm not happy I will exchange. Have you been happy with the RF-5's? What surround are you planning to use?
  21. Seb, Thanks for your comment. I am trying to make my speaker system a part of my living room as oppossed to to being the living room. That is why I have decided to go with the RF-5 (the RF-3's don't offer the cherry finish; and the RF-5 is smaller than the RF-7's). The RC-3 will fit on the shelf of my TV stand and the RC-7 will not, so it would go on the TV. The RC-7 does offer the cherry finish, but I would prefer to keep it on the stand. All that said, I don't want to get something that won't sound great together. Price is not really a problem. Speaking about price, I have been given the following quote from a storefront authorized dealer. RF-5's = $1300 RC-3 = $280 RS-3 = $450 RSW 12 = $1200 Yamaha RX-V2200 = $870 TOTAL = $4100 (plus tax) The store also offers a 1 year trade up policy on the speakers. Is this considered a good/fair price? Max
  22. I have performed a search concerning the use of the RC-3 with RF-5's to determine if the two will work well together (voiced matched?). From all previous posts, I did not see a clear opinion. What are your thoughts? Is the RC-7 a better match? It would be great to hear from someone at Klipsch. Max Proposed System: RF-5's RC-3 RS-3 RSW-12 Yamaha RX-V2200
  23. I have debated over the Denon 3802 and Yamaha RX-V2200 (both are popular with Klipsch on this site), but there are not any local stores that carry Denon and Klipsch products collectively, only Yamaha and Klipsch. The store where I will purchase has a great return policy, but of the receivers they carry in my price range, Yamaha is pretty much it. I'm not decided about the RF-3II's or RF-5's as fronts. I will give them at least one more listen before deciding. My original decision was to upgrade the fronts and go with the RSW-10 versus 12. Which is better to upgrade now, the fronts or the sub? The store has a speaker upgrade policy if done within the first year.
  24. I will soon have my first HT system (60% HT/40% music). I will also be a new Klipsch owner and would like some advice on my propsed system. Over the last few months I have valued the opinion of the members here and ask for your help now. My current room is approximately 14 X 14, but I will building a home sometime and will have a more HT oriented room. The system I'm considering is as follows: Fronts: RF-5 Center: RC-3II Surrounds: RS-3II Rear Center: RB-3 (if I can buy just 1, if not ?????) Sub: RSW-10 A/V Receiver: Yamaha RX-V2200 DVD-P: Sony DVP-NC650v (I don't have a HDTV, so progressive is not necessary and SACD would be nice. I will upgrade the DVD as necessary). My main concerns are as follows: 1. Will the front RF-5's sonically match the center RC-3II and surrounds RS-3II? 2. Will the RF-5's overpower the center? 3. Is the Yamaha RX-V2200 a good selection in general and with Klipsch speakers? 4. Should I upgrade to the RSW-12? I have spent time listening to the Klipsch/Yamaha setup, but in a HT store it's hard to tell how they system really works together. Thanks for any help/adivce/pointers anyone can offer. Max
