  1. Hello, I am curious If someone compared the different versions of Khorns and would be able to give some details about it. Some consider that Alnico versions provide some advantages but is it still the case? Ugo
  2. Hello, The best set up (when I received the Khorn at home): - Halcro Reference DM68 & D10 - Merging Nadac It was really great but the Khorn buying was iniated by a downsize decision and the electronic's part was to sale. First replacement, an all in one Marantz (M CR611). Digital amp. Really great for the budget.... but something was missing. The marantz is still at home, used by my son who is quite happy with. Evolution, an integrated from Spec Corp (japan), the M3. Analog class D amp. Very subtil and detailled, great amplification. It was completed by a Lumin D2 and a dedicated audio pc (fanless, with Roon). Next evolution, back to tube with a 2A3 Push Pull from Atelier du Triode (Italian brand). Tones are a little bit more richer, a very good match that is able to play loudly when needed. Last, the digital upgrade. Exit the Lumin and pc for a CAD 1543 (computer audio design) and an Innuos Zen. Step by step the result is improved, even if it was possible to live a full life with the small Marantz. One of the good thing with the Khorn, you can test succesfully a lot of amps on with great results. Why choosing at the end a tube amp ? Question of background. I lived most of my audio life with tube amps, mainly 300B. Why the 2A3 ? Question of opportunity, I wanted a push pull to have some watts and kick and the price was "reasonnable". Best
  3. Hello, I owned both at home, Cornwall II and Khorns around 70's (AA full alnico). I first bought Horns and before receiving it, I had an opportunity on Cornwall II. As I was not sure to be able to live with the big Khorn in my living room, I decided to buy the cornwall (just in case). By the way, with the 2 pairs at home I was able to compare. The cornwall is a good speaker, but the khorn was offering much more, mainly in the mid and high. More texture, richer tones, more energy. So if you love cornwall and have an opportunity on Khorn, you should listen it, no doubt. After your opportunity seems quite expensive, even for Europe. Best
  4. Hello, Due to children (2 youngs boys), I decided to downsize my system and search something easy to use for the family. I indicate that I use a pair of: - 1982 Klipschorn (AA) - 1985 Cornwall II Room is 5 x 10 m (sorry, I live in Europe). To match with these constrains, I choosed a FDA amplifier (full digital amp) Marantz MCR611 (current model is 612), sold for 700 US$, 400 currently for last ones. Few thinks to know: - it's an "all in one" (CD, tuner, streamer...) - do not switch it off (cold the result is not good, everything is simplified) - setup the tonal corrections to Direct mode (corrections are disconnected) The MCR611 is very easy to use. You connect it to the network (RJ45 or wifi), then it appears as an endpoint in Roon. There is also an analog input (vinyl preamplifier). To complete, you can also send music through airplay (apple) or stream it (spotify). For the price and in these conditions, the result is very very good and I can say that my downsize is not a sad story (I was using JBL K2 S9500 with a full halcro reference set up). I tested the KHorn with the Halcro set, it's better of course, but I can easily live with the Marantz. User experience + Sound represent a very good balance. I am not the only klipsch heritage user that choose this FDA (compared to solid state and tube as bel canto 845). I think that this technology is a good match for these speakers. Any other experience ? Thanks Ugo P.S: Apologize my English, I don't practice so much.
