  1. Anyone know if there's a major difference? Are there any? I was wondering because a lot used RB-5s have been popping up lately, and I was planning to get new RB-5 IIs soon. May not be worth spending too much on the newer ones if there's not a lot of differenct between the two. Anyone from Klipsch have feedback? Thanks!
  2. Wow. Always love the responses in this forum. All input is appreciated. Maybe the best thing to do is knock out part of the wall to accomodate the floorstanding speaker. : ) Then again, I'm not ready for divoce.
  3. Could really use anyone's input on this. I have KG 4.5 floorstanding speakers for mains. Have been very pleased, yet they are the only ones I've ever owned. Moved into a new house, and unfortunately the room layout forces one of the floorstanding speakers to reside in the hallway, which is in the way. So I'm contemplating changing to the RB-5s so that I can mount them up a little, and out of the walking area. Would I sacrafice my quality or improve by switching? My typical understanding is that floorstandings are superior to bookshelfs. Anyone have experience with KG 4.5s and/or RB-5s? I also have a great sub, center channel and rears. I listen to 2 channel audio as well as 5.1 for DVDs, so both are important for me. Any input would be appreciated.
  4. The coolest video compression tool I've seen yet, is actually a dual purpose software product called Visual Communicator from Serious Magic. I say it's cool because you can quickly create video presentations with it that look like an ESPN style broadcast with graphics, effects and titles, and then it compresses it for you in .asf so that you can email or post. http://www.seriousmagic.com... click on the video samples link. Yes, I work there so I'm biased! (But I've worked in video development for over a decade.) Please don't kill me!
  5. So if both fit, which would be better for a ceiling mount in a home theater setup? I was thinking of using them for the surround behind/side of couch. But would they also work up front in the ceiling, or would they point down to much to reach the couch, which is 12' or so back. Help appreciated.
  6. I would probably keep the KG 4.5s in the other room just for stereo/CD purposes. I just can't fit them in the new living room because of the way the media niche was built. The speaker pre-wire (in the front) are basically boxes in the ceiling with plates over them right now (about the size of a light switch plate), and are located in the front corners of the room about 8-10 inches away from the wall. I wasn't sure if the in ceiling speakers, which point straight down, would be good. They would certainly look the best though. I also wasn't sure how well the compact speakers sound compared to what i had. The bookshelf size fronts might fit... not sure yet. Any expert advice? Most people in the new neighborhood who have the same hookups are opting for the little bose speakers... But I'd rather not go that route. There is also a center channel hookup in the ceiling, although I thought it might be better to leave that on top of the TV.
  7. Alright, I realize I'm a newbie and probably low end after reading some of the technical posts. I haven't bought new speakers for about 5 years... currently have Klipsch floorstand mains (I think KG 4.5?), center (KV-1) and bookshelf surrounds, with an Energy sub. Am now in a new house where the floorstand speakers will not work (media niche cabinet doesn't accomodate), and the ceiling has pre-wire boxes to hang speakers from the ceiling for front and rear. Any suggestions as to which speakers would work best? I love my floorstand mains, even if they are old, but what would work instead from the ceiling?
  8. But don't the speakers need to be behind the couch, in order to give the "Rear" sound experience?
  9. Cool. The 7.1 would be very cool. My problem is the room is actually huge (a lot of space between the back of the couch and the back wall), but they still placed the rear speaker hook-ups only 12' feet from the TV, which is where I have my couch. So the rear speakers would be directly above it, and not behind it. Unfortunately, two story houses make it hard to add wire in the ceiling. I guess I could just use floor standing, or bookshelf, speakers behind me and not use the pre-wire in the ceiling. Is there any documentation that you know of that recommends that the rear speakers should be at least a certain distance... such as "approximately 15 feet from the TV" or "at least 3 feet behind the couch" ? If I had that in writing, I could make the home builder move the speaker pre-wire.
  10. Thanks for the advice. That makes sense. I guess part of my issue is that the homebuilder seemed to just slap the rear speaker pre-wire without even measuring to see if it would be behind the couch. I'm sure I could get reasonable results from where they're at (hey, any Klipsch based system is going to beat a basic TV) but I could easily make the home builder move them back if needed. Just trying to see how big of an issue it should be.
  11. Thanks. I'm familiar with the delay settings. I guess my biggest question is will I get a decent experience with the rear surround speakers placed directly above the couch instead of behind it? My home builder added pre-wire in the ceiling, but did not put them in my desired location. Trying to figure out if it will work as is, or if I should make them move the rear surround pre-wire back further. It seems like the current location would forgoe the "rear" part of rear surround sound. Or am I not correct? Appreciate your help.
  12. It may be an open ended question, but what distance does Klipsch recommend for placing rear speakers, in relation to the seating? I've had Klipsch floor speakers for years. But I just moved into a new house that has pre-wire installed in the ceiling. It seems like the rear position is really far forward -- to the point where it's right above the couch, not behind. 1) Any generalc advice in terms of distance? 2) Any recommendation in terms of selecting a speaker, if I choose not to move the rear pre-wire back further? Any help would be appreciated.
