  1. Just finished my latest project. I was curious to see if I could build a pair to use where size is a problem. They are built around the idea of using a 12", K-77, and K-700. I am very happy and impressed with the quality of sound.
  2. William, thanks for the info! I have been gone for a few days so I'm sorry it took a while to respond. It's a full plate to digest, but I understand the concept. Compared to my K-77's they are not quite as sharp and crisp but I am running staight through a 3 way crossover. I'll try a few different options. Other question, I have four K-77 drivers (the guy told me they were a pro line?? Originally two drivers into one lens. Does anyone have any old lenses that they are not using? Or any suggestions of replacements? EV says they have no more but did give me a few names of people to check with (no luck yet). It's such a shame to have the four, in great shape, but not be able to use them. Thank you, Don
  3. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might buy four lenses?
  4. Thanks DJK, I thought maybe that's what they were.
  5. Hi, Does anyone know where I can get four horn lenses for the above? Also, I have just purchased a pair of tweeters with "baby cheeks" lenses. The magnet assembly is twice as thick as my other rectangular K-77's. They also have push type wire connectors. Numbers are 829 0165 747. They look like EV's but are heavier. I tried to include a picture but keep getting an error message? Any thoughts on what they might be? I have hooked them up to a pair of Belles and they sound fantastic! I paid $37.00 for the pair and would like to know what I have. Thanks alot, Don

    LF-10

How good is the LF-10? Lots of power, lots of money. Is (or was) it worth the higher price? I have not yet had the opprotunity to hear one and am looking for feedback. Thanks
  7. Could be, looks alot like it. I will have to take some measurements when I get home. Thanks for the help!
  8. Jay, Have you considered the Selenium HC56-25 horn? I use one in my center HT setup and to my ears it is a very nice sounding horn.
  9. To all, The pair of drivers that I have look exactly like one of a pair on ebay. If you check auction #1940378280 in the Klipsch section and look at the small pictures, the lone pic on the right, looks like the ones I have. Same gray color, same black rubber gasket, same connectors, same shape, etc. One difference (besides no Klipsch sticker) is there is a bolt head in the center of the rear cover of the driver. If you look at the other auction driver the connector posts are different. Did Klipsch use Atlas drivers? Or do I have some Atlas parts inside? Any ideas? I bought mine a couple of months ago hooked to a pair of heavy, cast horns with crome on the face from ebay. Let me know what you think.
  10. I have had a similar situation. Mine would happen after I shut the system down. Once everything was quiet I could hear a religious program preaching some pretty heavy stuff coming thru my speakers. The strange part is that we don't have a station like that in the area. It would only last about 15 - 20 seconds then fade out. I was using an Adcom amp and preamp, tried changing outlets, grounding, etc. Maybe an omen????...STRANGE!
  11. berndH, When you suggested the atlas web site did you see something that I overlooked? These drivers are surprisingly good. I swapped them with the Khorn mid drivers and there is not much difference. I would just like to know what these are. Thank-you
  12. I had been looking for some help on a pair of 8-HD horns that I got from EBay. I still don't know what model# the driver is but they are working again. The previous owner must have over tightened the 4 brass screws. I was in the process of taking one apart and hooked it up by chance. All of a sudden it worked! So I replaced the screws and while tightening the driver the sound became faint, loosen the screw a little and it works. Actually they both work now. Still part of the learning process.
  13. Gil, I don't have my camera now so I was trying use the auction pictures (#1391509546). If it helps I can give you the numbers: 580051 and 649748. The driver is about 2 1/4" dia. and about 2" tall with four 2 1/4" threaded screws holding it together. I would guess that it is a phenolic diaphram (looks alot like the diaphrams in a snowmobile fuel pump). Do you have any suggestions as to what happens when the driver plays but is very faint? Thanks!
  14. Does anyone know what these drivers are? They are permanently mounted to 8-HD horns. I need diaphrams but I don't know what or where to order from. PS. I am guessing they need diaphrams, they play but sound is very faint. Thank-you, Don
  15. Yes I have. I have emailed them to see if they can help.
  16. Noz, I built a split Lascala this summer(photo enclosed)to use as a tv stand. It worked fine but, as DillonW says, the Belle looks better. So I built a Belle bottom. My tv is a 31" and the width of the tv matches the Belle width perfectly. I don't know if that is what you are looking for but I would be happy to share how I built mine.
  17. Thanks anyway Qman, maybe in the future I'll find the info. They are fairly heavy, about 4lbs each according to the bathroom scale. I am going to try them with various lenses and see what happens.
  18. Does anyone have any input on Atlas Sound #pp 1280B drivers? Or maybe where I might look? Thanks
  19. Can anyone give me any info on these drivers. Atlas Sound #pp 1280B? I have a pair and would like to know the specs. Thanks
  20. Can anyone give me anything on Atlas Sound driver #pp 1280B. I have a set and would like to have more info. Thanks
  21. Need some help. I finally opened up a pair of drivers to see who made them. The name is Atlas Sound and the number is pp 1280B. I tried to find it on the Atlas site but no such luck. It would be handy to know what these do so that I can match them accordingly. Can anyone suggest where I might look? Anything? Thanks
  22. AL, Indeed the horn is as you describe. But I don't seem to have the shortcomings that you mention. I will have to have another test session and ask a few people to give their opinion. Thanks for the definition between the two horns, in future projects it will be helpful.
  23. Al, I have not yet had the pleasure of hearing your crossovers. With what I read about them you are a master. I called an audio company, told him what I was trying to accomplish and he sent me the parts. For the mid he gave me a (on the positive side)40uf connected to a .3mH followed by an L-pad then to the speaker.Nothing on the negative side. I am not sure what the frying pan sound is but there does not seem to be any crackling or hissing. I have the AK3 crossovers on a pair of built khorns (all of the components were purchased new at the same time, so the horns are the plastic, fiberglass type)I hooked one of the khorns and the center (with the selenium horn) to an Adcom and did the right vs. left. The selenium horn sounded more realistic, seemed to fill the room better. Please feel free to comment and add any suggestions. Don PS. Al, I did look up the Selenium HC56-25 and it is a "bi-radial", maybe you can explain the difference to me. Thanks
  24. Q man, The HC-25 (264-300 parts express #) is bi-radial, 500Hz min, 1.0" throat diameter, 1 3/8"-18 TPI, is 22.8"w x 10.9"h x 15.4"d and weighs 3.5lbs. There really is quite a difference. I also just finshed my new tv stand which is the bottom of a Belle. I had a Lascala base but the tv is wider than that.
  25. The horn discussions are certainly very interesting. I was wondering if anyone has listened to the Selenium horn #HC56-25. I installed one as part of the center speaker (picture enclosed). I did the right-left channel comparison against the 400 and found the Selenium to be more open and spacious IMO which works well in the home theater setup. Just my two cents worth.
