  1. Hi, Looks like you are a little undecicded on an enclosure. Have you given a sealed tube any thought? A little less chance for distortion with no corners. After building a half dozen boxes or so I settled on a PVC (heavy walled about 3/4" thick) 18" dia. x 28" high tube. I enclosed the ends with 1 1/2" (2 pcs 3/4") of mdf, wrapped the inside with some damping material and another layer of 3 1/2" insulation. It started out vented but I ended up sealing it and have been very pleased. I am using the Eminence Lab12 Gen II. I included a shot of the setup incuding the PE 250 watt amp in a seperate enclosure. It sits in a kneewall/closet behind the TV so you don't see the ugly plywood patch! Rob's sub is beautiful, well made, a real work of art. Just an option for you to ponder. Don
  2. Boy, this one stirred the pot. First, I have nothing to gain by trying to bull**** anyone. Why would I disable a couple of good T35's and ST-350's unless I thought someone else might be as interested and satisfied as I am. The resulting leftover pair are single magnet ST-350's that have no sales value. It makes no sense to end relationships over something so minimal. My reserve is the same as any of the K77/T35's I listed and sold before so it's not like I'm trying to take advantadge of anyone. To Hardhead, man you are one bitter person! You added nothing of value, just insults and naysaying on a topic that you clearly have not investigated. If I had an extra tweeter I would send it to you so you could at least have a valid opinion. To Thumpelstiltskin, yes I am one and the same. Yes the magnet assemblies are from a pair of ST-350's, thank you for the question. THE END.
  3. Maybe it implied that if the buyer chose not to insure or someone didn't know what they were buying. Sometimes it better not to make assumptions until you have a chance to hear them first. This is one of those times.
  4. Thanks Stephen, that makes alot more sense!
  5. I need a little help understanding how the new sub works. In the specs cutaway pictures it shows seperate chambers for the area around the cone and another behind the magnet. Is there some port holes cut in that seperator wall? and what is the hole in the back upper left? Any ideas or answers? Thanks, Don
  6. Spaz, You might consider using your old setup as the rear speakers. Connect the input from them to your rear output on your soundcard. The drawback to this option is that once you set the fade to your liking you may have to use the on screen volume control instead of the control pod. At least this way you can still have a four speaker setup with four distinct channels. Don
  7. Hi, I am looking for a K-1071-K subwoofer. It is the speaker used in the KSW-12. If anyone knows where I might find one please let me know. I already have a email request into Klipsch. Thanks, Don
  8. Hi guys, Does anybody have or know where I might find a K-1071-E? I need one to finish a project. Thanks.
  9. Thank you guys for the info and replies. All this talk about the Academy! If people are trying to find a center for the heritage line I think they should be using something with a K-55 as a midrange since a good share of the dialog starts there. When I first started with HT I had an RC3 as a center, it truly did not match the Khorn components. I then built a center using a Belle bottom as the TV stand, a Selenium HC-25 horn with a Layne audio K-55 replacement and a Selenium tweeter above the TV. The tweeter is definitely not a K-77 but when the same sound (car, airplane, voices, etc) cross the front three speakers it is seamless. Therefore the midrange is the most important choice for matching the rest of the system. Even after replacing the Khorns with the 12" version (they do include the original K-55's and K-77's) it is still seamless. Of course this is only my opinion but for those interested in a center match for the heritage line you might want to consider including a K-55. Thanks, Don
  10. I have seen alot of discussion on the Academy lately and have been asked about building a few. I got some prices from Klipsch for the components. K-1011-KV woofer - $110.13 each, K-76-K tweeter - $45.32, Academy Network - $41.41. That brings the total to $306.99 but does not include shipping. I would use 1/2" mdf covered with birch or oak veneer (I don't care for paper) and stained to match the buyers setup. Grille cloth would be black. This is not going to be a mass production job, I would build one or two at a time. Ballpark price would be $450.00 - $500.00 for a clone with all new components. Please email if you have any interest. A great member of this forum pointed out that I needed to finish explaining the total thickness of the cabinet. The idea was to use 1/2" mdf followed by 1/4" birch or oak bringing the thickness to 3/4". And to use 3/4" mdf for the bottom as well as the back panel. It may also help to identify myself as the guy that made the Baby Belle and the 12" cornerhorn. Sorry for the oversight folks and thanks for the interest! Don
  11. In reference to the Academy, I just got the guts price to build one. Woofers are $110.13 each. Tweeter is $45.32. Crossover is $41.41. A total of $306.99 per center, and it doesn't include shipping or the cost of building a cabinet.
  12. Michael, What is the mcm 1900 system?
  13. I don't know how to attach more than one picture per post, so here is another shot of the plug in question. Thanks Don
  14. Hi, I purchased a pair of K-77's a while back and have a question. They came without lenses but have removable phase plugs. The question is what kind of lense do they use? The regular K-77 has the plug built into the lense, the ST-350 has a different type of plug permanently attached to the magnet/diaphram assembly. The guy I bought these from said they were used in a "pro" setup. He doesn't remember what the lense looked like but he thought it would accept two drivers per horn. Anybody seen these? Or seen the horn lense that he was talking about? Don
  15. Thank you guys for the response. I have no means to redesign a crossover, no equipment and an admitted lack of expertise on the subject. How should I get started on such a task? What is needed? (besides help!) I am going to hook up what I have and see how it sounds. Any help or direction will be appreciated. Frzn, I will look into the Academy, it looks like a nice project! I'll keep you posted Don
  16. I have a question for any and all about using my AK-3's in my 12" cornerhorns. The woofers that I am using are K-22-EF's and are 8 ohm. The K-33's were 4 ohm. What changes should be made to the crossovers? Thanks in advance for the input. Don
  17. I do have the phase plug. It would be interesting to see how the K-77 horn would sound on the double stack. I don't have a good way to measure the response but I will mount one and see if I can hear the difference. Don
  18. Is this one of the ST-350's in question? I have two pairs of these along with a bunch of K-77's and T-35's. I also think the ST-350's are more efficient and I think they sound at least as good as the K-77's if not a little better. I'll put it this way, without knowing which supposed to be better I saved a pair of the ST-350's (after hearing them) for my own use as opposed to putting them in a pair of speakers to sell. The other set has push-on connectors instead of the spring loaded type. Don
  19. Frzn, I am in Springfield, about 10 minutes from exit 7 on 91. Yes they are on two boards, one for the woofer section and the other in the top. Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, I had another series of tests. Don
  20. Frzin, If you are going south soon, I might let you borrow one of my AK3's to do a right-left comparison for a couple of days. Don
  21. Thanks guys, I'll do my best to reslove this issue. Don
  22. Almost finished with the pair of 12" cornerhorns. Still have to mount the tweeter and squaker in the top section. I am going to use a K-77 and a 600hz horn with K-55's or the Atlas version. I've got a few options for the crossovers to try out.
  23. Bill, I also built the "Baby Belles". However, I don't have a refined set of plans for the project. I doubt if you'd have much luck my notes and scribbling. If I can find some time I could try to staighten out my mess. I can give you the outside dimensions quickly but beyong that I will need some time. Marvel, I just installed a K-42 crossed at 700. Not too bad but I want to try a 500 that I built (might even be a 400, I don't remember off the top of my head) before I'm done. Thanks for the input. Any ideas for a mid lens? Don
