  1. Where do you get a sonotube anyway and whats the web address if there is one? I have been looking for something like that for awhile. Thank you in advance. CD
  2. what are BFA Plugs and what are pin for speaker wireing?
  3. Well, I have been going around the net to places like crutchfield.com and partsexpress.com. Notice I said woofer and not subwoofer. I say woofer because I want to use a good 10 inch for a midbass/midrange speaker. I was planing on doing this in a basshorn design and later do a DIY Sub Basshorn. A pair of 10s work but if I can by with just one, thats good. Anyway, Nothing more then $150each. I don't mind trying other web sites either.
  4. I admit I love my setup. Well, sence I have more of the audio range with what I have, it makes its is sound more there. But I have heard the 7s and they do sound better then my 3's to my ears. With my set up, I get better lows, but with the 7 set, i would get better highes. I would like both, but until I get enought funds, I can't have the cake and eat it to. But I am happy you agree with what I have.
  5. ok, I know this is a very late reply, but I have fineally got my RSW-15 the way I like it and I love it. Actually my music doesnt sound right without it anymore. I think it makes my music sound more "live" with it.
  6. Right now, I have the Ref 3 Series II set up and an RSW-15. But would it have been better to get the whole Ref 7 Series without the RSW-15? Each way would of cost me about the same. I hope I didn't mess up. O and think about it this way. If you get the 7's, you wouldn't be able to get a sub for about a year after. Long store short, my money issues. Anyway, thank you in advance.
  7. Well, I ask because there are times I have played mine pretty high with a 2.1 speaker way(even though i can do 5.1) and got 119 dB before. Would this by any chance rattle anything(not counting my house)with a house about 100 feet away from my sub? I have never had anyone call and tell me to turn it down, but then again, no one knows my number and useally when i do this, everyone is at work. Also, what about 105 dB. I only ask so I don't annoy anyone in the future. Thank you in advance.
  8. I have been looking into getting the most smallest size. Well anyway. I was wondering what Qts and Vas. I think I have an idea wat Qts is, but if i do, are higher numbers better? Also what is Qms and Qes. Any Answers would be great. Thank you in advance.
  9. Well, if you want My honest opion, then I would do it. If its just low levels all the time, you might not need it, but I belive when you push it, it will make a difference. If it were me, I would do it without a second thought. Hope this helps. CD
  10. Ok, I have been looking around the web at places like Crutchfield and PartsExpress.com. I was wondering what I should do as far as design goes. I was thinking of doing a horn design. Besides size, is there anything bad about doing a sub this way. And is it true with horns, the longer, the louder? If this is true, it may save me a good amount of money instead of buying multiple woofers for one box. And I am not looking so much for under 20 Hz performance, but at least 30Hz and up. Any ideas on how big of a horn I would have to use to gain possibly a 10 dB increase and a decent output at 30Hz and above. The biggest woofer I want to use is a 12 but smaller is ok to. Thank you in advance.
  11. Well, I ask because I happen to have a spare sub around. Sounds almost like ears huh. Well, I don't have that kinda money, but you get the idea. Is there a speacil adaptor that I use, and if so, where do I get one. This might be pushing it, but is possible to get an amp used to without haveing to go with the computer friendly recivers. Just asking because my sub on the computer sucks. Even when I DIY a horn for it. Any answers would be great. Thank you in advance.
  12. Well I do have the entire 3 series stuff and the RSW-15. I don't have an X-Box, but I do have a Playstation 2 and it sounds pretty good to me. I to have Splinter Cell, just got it yesterday actually. I even use my Playstation 2 as a DVD player. Sounds amazing. I wonder what it sounds like on a higher end DVD player.
  13. Well, actually, the wood one gave me 5 more dB and that bigger cd case one gave me 9 more dB. Sorry I didn't clear this up earlier.
  14. Ok, this is the last one. This is the top of the big horn I did. I figure that first shot just wasnt enought to get a good idea what it looks like. If you want to see what the speaker looks like without this, ask and I'll try to get that picture up to. So in order, my first one is my 2nd design, the 2nd one the 3rd design, my 3rd one is my first and the last one is a picture of what my 3rd one it looks like on top.
  15. Ok, I know it says no horn, but I belive this one does. This is the one I thought I first put up but it didn't go up. This is what I ment by, I named it wrong. Anyway, this is my first project.
  16. Well, I checked it and this is the big one. Sorry folks, this isn't going anywhere near as well as I planed. Well, this one took me awhile to set up.
  17. Ok, so i messed up on the nameing. This is the first time I have done this so bare with me. Lets just say each picture is different. Well on to picture 2
  18. Well I only say fake so you understand that these were my experiments. My first picture is what the speaker looks like alone. There should be 4 more pics to follow
  19. Well, I guess this can be an audio subject considering it consist of useing dB. Well, if you ever done this you will know what I mean. I took a balloon and filled it up. And belive it or not I tried that high pitch thing when you pull the sides of the bottom part where the air goes. Well I got a 106 dB reading. Well thats like 1 inch from the bolloon but still, not bad. I guess this can be used incase its in a movie and you want to check to see if your getting the right dB levels for it. I also tried to see the dB for when its poped. Well problem is, the pop noise is to short to measure it. Sure did hurt my ears thou. CD
  20. Well, if you read my fake horn gave 5 dB thread, this is something I did after it. Well, my half brother lived with me awhile and bought alot of CDs and put them in a Big CD case. Well he purposly left his CD cases here sence it would be less space and he didn't really need em. So, I used, if I remember right 18 cd cases for my new horn design. I started out stright and curved little by little. I belive it was 4 cases on each side, 3 in the middle to hold up some on the top. I think it was 7 for the top. As you can probly imagine, its kinda big. But if you care to know, the speakers are Boston Acoustics Digital BA735 multi media speakers for a computer. I would get the klipsch promedias especssly after I read they fixed the problem, but money right now is an issue until probly next year. Well, the good news is, I found a digital camra to take pictures of the experiments, the bad news is, I need batteries. So I am hopeing by tuesday to have pitures up. Just to make sure I got this right. I save the picutre and use attach file right? CD
  21. Well, I had to take the whole thing down. Well it was like 1 in the morning. Also, I didn't want my parents compling about the mess I made. Well, if I can find my parents digital camra, I can set it up again as a before and after, even includeing the meter. Only problem is, music doesn't stay consistant. So when the picture is taken, it may not look like a change has happend. A 5 dB change in music isn't uncommon. Any ideas? Maybe a free MP3 I can download for this purpose. I didn't have much succes with the woofer thou. I didn't have any difference when useing a basic idea I saw for a bass horn. Maybe a differet disign is needed. I did try the normal horn, but the lower notes were drowned out.
  22. Well I only say fake because it was just useing my computer speaker and 3 pieces of wood to creat a horn. I didn't need a 4th because the desk was the bottom piece. Anyway, I layed my dB meter about a foot away from the speakers and had the same song going. Without changing the volume or meter, i removed the pieces of wood and lost about 5 dB. The side pices were 12 by 8.5. and the top was just big enoght to cover to whole top. This gives me an idea how much louder my DIY project will be. This is good news for me. Just alittle something interesting thing to read. I knew it would be louder, but I didn't know how much. Also, belive it or not, it actually sounded better.
  23. Thanks for your long reply. I had to reread to understand it. Well, honestly, I dunno any ohmes formulas. Although, I am good at math, I have just never found a formula for ohmes. Like, what would get if you connected a 6 ohme and 8 ohme speaker to an amp, what would the amp run at? I wouldn't know. I only know the simple stuff like 2 of the same ohme load connected is either half or double the ohm load depending on how its wired. Thats all I know. Man I am glad this forum exist. Other wise I would have very little faith doing this project.
  24. This one wasn't doing to well where I had it, so I moved it here. I am doing a DIY speaker for a friend of mine. I was wondering about a few things. When a crossover has 8 ohmes for each output connection, would that make the input 8 ohmes as well? Also, say I use a speaker that has an ohme rateing of 4 ohmes and put it on an 8 ohme crossover, what would happen? The Hz part I understand, and also 2-way and 3-way. I am mainly asking so I don't blow or mess up anything
