  1. Hey Moon, Think H/K Citation II.Hangs notes out in the air(as only tubes can do),and has bass control like SS.I bet Craig would love to rebuild one for you.Jim McShane did mine, and it's a dandy. Best, Pat
  2. Hey Jeff, Yes I do.Email me off post and I'll look up whatever you like. Pat
  3. Hi, I just looked up the current "Blue Book" value of these on Audiogon.$1430.00 PER SPEAKER !Must be because these are frequently sought after as a single for center channel, and are desireable both as a pair and singly. I have a pair built in 1986,and love the sound. You did well. Best, PL
  4. Hi, I've got a Nakamichi LX3 that I bought new, that probably has about 30 total hours on it.You're welcome to it for 125.00,assuming it functions pefectly(I'll check it first).I remember it as being a very very good 2 head deck, but not in the same league as a Dragon.I don't remember where it lay in the overall scheme of Naks, but mobile is probably familiar with it. Best, Pat
  5. Hi Kelly, The enclosure is a George Thomlinson(from Houston) design, and as simple as it is,it's the most balanced Lowther enclosure I've heard to date.Has decent response down to the high 30's and is great with an EL84 based Scott or Eico. It's basically a folded TQWP,50 inches tall with a rear facing port(horn mouth). You and I are in the same camp as far as subs go,but the Maelstrom sounds and integrates with horns very very well.Does require some fiddling as far as placement(mine sounds most natural with no corner reinforcement)and volume,as it isn't linear with increases or decreases in speaker output.I tweak the output once I adjust my overall system level. I'm using my Citation II and it works surprizingly well with the Belles.I'm delighted with it's first couple of watts;still as good a PP sound as I've heard.Sounds like an EL84 based amp on steroids with great bass control. I haven't listened to the Belles with SET,but I suspect Jazzman will be more than delighted with the Roitberg amp and pre.I've had them boxed up for shipment for weeks, and need to get them out to him this weekend. To be honest,I've had some trouble getting stuff done, and am just starting to clear out the fog a bit. Best, Pat
  6. Hi, Art Dudley reviewed the Linn sub very favorably in one of the last issues of "Listener".He was using it with Lowther PM2a's in Medallion cabinets,a combo that normally defies integration with a sub. I built the Maelstrom to go with my PM6a's in a 50in. folded pipe enclosure, and I was shocked at how good the results are.Fast, musical, and just doesn't exist until needed. In the past I've tried M&K,velodyne, and VMPS,all of which sounded contrived in some way,and none of which acheived the proper timing needed to integrate with a horn loaded enclosure.Sounds equally good with my new Belles, once I resolved some placement issues. Best, Pat
  7. Hi, I'm using the 18" Adire Maelstrom with their 250 watt plate amp,in a 24in. sealed enclosure.Integrates beautifully, and isn't audible at all unless significant low energy is on the recorded material. The most musical of the subs I've heard(sounds a lot like an REL) due to large area with modest excursion. The driver is on sale for 299.00,so you should be able to construct one for 600.00 or less. Best, Pat
  8. TBrennan, The voting rights act of 1964 was not passed by a greater percentage of democrats, southern or otherwise than republicans.Nor did the majority of southern democrats switch parties.See Al Gore's father's voting record as an example. The deep south was almost exclusively Democrat, and had an abysmal record of voting for civil rights. The actual tally in the senate was 69% Democrats in favor,vs.82% republicans in favor. The house was 61% Democrats in favor vs.80% Republicans in favor. The 74 day Filibuster against the passage of the act was led by and was exclusively a product of the democratic party. Don't bull**** without checking the factsDitto your grasp of the pre and war time ascendency of Hitler. Pat
  9. Mike, Here's the problem as I see it .Hussein is a true despot, absolutely in the same vane as Hitler.Your argument that Hitler was different because of the efficacy of German technology and genius(and the gravity of its subsequent threat) is pointless sophistry.Hussein exhibits the same meglomania and willingness to kill minority ethnic groups in order to polarize a core of practical support .This is fact, not hyperbolised conjecture.Hitler did exactly the same thing at the absolute ebb of German national power. Hussein is unique in current history because of his ruthlessness, coupled with his control of the vast oil reserves of Iraq. The genesis of 30+ years of Muslim extremist teachings castigating Israel and by extension, the U.S., creates an active and severe threat to us which will grow (unfortunately)in direct proportion to a lack of terminal response on our part.It is impossible to contain an active dynamic of this nature by thinking, agonizing, etc.,with no conclusion and subsequent application of force to eliminate the threat.Making the assumption that we can contain Hussein(through "thoughtful" inactivity) while he creates the vast wealth to buy the technical produce of France,or other nuclear "Ladies of the evening"is painfully naive. Best, Pat

  11. Hi Guys, An Eico HF 81,Scott 299A/B,Scott 222C,etc.will absolutely crush the amps you're considering.Further, they include excellent preamp stages and phono stages.Once rebuilt, they are as reliable as premium modern tube equipment. I'm confident Craig can supply one in the 600.00 range that is ready for service, with no fiddling required.Further, depreciation is about zero, unlike the Jolida's. I'm not guessing about the sonic differences,as I've owned 4 Jolida amps since 1995.They just can't compete with high quality vintage trannys and top notch American design.Consider that a new 299B,adjusted for inflation, would top 2500.00 in current dollars. As far as power,a 98 db efficient loudspeakeris an easy load for the 14 or so watts RMS these amps produce. Best, Pat Landrum
  12. Hi Dale, Will do.I'd already decided to buy them(they are stunning).I'll keep everybody posted. Best, Pat
  13. Hi Guys, Some of you need to get out of the crib and into the world.I spend 4 months of the year in Europe, and have good friends in Germany and England. 1.Contrary to what you may read,we aren't viewed with hatred or fear by most Europeans. We aren't thought about AT ALL,any more than you think about Europe in your daily life. 2.The idea of the U.S. as a tyrannical, frightening entity would strike the average Euro as laughable. The rudest waiter in Paris wouldn't take a million to one odds on the U.S. going for world domination in the next zillion years or so.We are viewed as naive, erratic ,and occasionally bumbling, but also as singularly admirable in most venues of action. As a writer for for The Guardian said"America may wander about trying to decide a course of action, but it generally winds up getting things right." 3.Germany,France ,and Russia aren't trying to slow down or prevent a war for reasons of morality or any higher order thinking. On the contrary, their motives are driven by pure greed(France)political survival(Schroeder),and the possible loss of the most lucrative oil development in history(Russia). So much for morality. 4.Inaction in this affair will exacerbate terrorism in all forms. There is no question that Hussein is a murdering despot unseen since Hitler, et al.Wringing your hands and worrying about the repercussions of attacking terrorism won't have any effect other than allowing it to proceed. 5.Accept that we aren't a cruel, misguided nation. When Winston Churchill was asked to summarize the behavior of post WWII America(specifically when we were the only country on earth that posessed the means to decimate anyone we chose)he replied"It was the least onerous act in human history". Best regards, Pat
  14. Hi Guys, In my search for some Khorns,I've come across a super nice pair of Belle Klipsch. They are finished in Walnut, condition is a 9 out of 10.They are local,so no shipping.Crossover appears to be A/B,if this helps with dating them. My goal is to eventually wind up with Khorns,so my question pertains to value. The price of these is 1300.00(which seems fair) but I'd like to sell them at a future date without losing much $if and when I locate some Khorns.Does anyone have a feel for this price relative to past sales? Also, are these badly bass deficient?I have a sub,but coupled with the size of these I'm running out of room quickly. Thanks, Pat
  15. Hi Tom, Did you ever swap phase splitters in the 222C?Also,how do the russian PIO's compare to the Jensen's? Pat
