  1. Made a little more progress on the boxes. First base coat and a quick clear coat to seal the wood. It's not perfect but I'll take a look at it tomorrow with new eyes and see if it needs to be block sanded and recleared. Ordered new corners, screws, t nuts, etc. Dave A. mentioned that these corners from Parts Express don't have the little reliefs to overlap the edging. Once I get them, I'll see about cutting a little out because I think the overlap is much tougher than a butt joint if you're hauling them around and setting them up regularly. Polishing up the handles and cups. One of the grills is in pretty decent shape and has an expanded sheet metal grate behind the cloth to guard the woofer. The other grill, some "artist" cut off (continues below)....... the bottom about half way into the ports so I'll have to make a new grill board. That one has a plastic screen for the woofer. Looks like the brushed brass name plates are salvageable but I also prefer the professional ones that Rick mentioned. I'll look and see what vintages came with which badges. Cheers!
  2. I am usually pretty good at wiring diagrams but the schematic is a language I don’t speak very well. My bus strip has 5 sets of wires . The schematic shows only HF and LF on the input strip, but now that I look at it again , I assume the W, M and F on the right side mean Woofer, mid and tweeter. I’m learning , slowly. I’ll take a picture of it as you suggested, and thanks so much for noticing the missing parts. So to replace the Caps, for each speaker crossover I need: 2. 4 uF 250v caps 1. 68uF 100v cap and to replace the Klip circuit I need: 1. Erse R60-050-L polyswitch 1. 200 ohm 25 watt resistor Does that look right Geoff? Thank you for helping me out.

    Jokes?

How much do pirates pay for corn? Bucaneer!
  4. Seems this project is moving ahead nicely. I really want to thank Rick for his kind contribution of the K-48-k woofer, which is on its way. In regards to the Klip circuit, that Geoff noticed was missing, (the tweeter protection circuit) I found the poly switch, suggested by Dave A in one of Rick’s posts but , since it has been removed , I am unsure on the value and type of resistor that goes with it. Thanks in advance
  5. It's clear Klipsch users feel strongly about their capacitors. I love passion about things that are important in one's life. We're discussing parts that most people don't even know exist in their audio equipment, all because we are united in our love of music and sound which leads us on a path to better both the understanding of its workings and the desire to make it better. I say that's a good debate to be part of. Respect to all on here.
  6. Wow, the support and kindness of this community is a little overwhelming. Well Rick, I could certainly use that woofer so I feel to keep things in karmic balance, I have a K-43-SK, I believe, let me recheck the last letters that is available for anyone who wants to pay shipping. I think we are all going to be contacting Billybob before : 1.going on trips to Vegas 2.asking girls for their hand in marriage 3. important elections etc.... Thanks so much for all your help with these old musical dreams of mine. I looked and looked and people asked why I was so set on these speakers and the answer is revealing itself in a more beautiful way than even I knew.

    Jokes?

Guy walks into a zoo. There was only one animal. It was a Shitzu.....😀
  8. After priming one speaker, I could still see faint 80 grit marks so on the unprimed one I decided to skin the whole box with wood putty before priming as it's easier to sand than automotive primer (cheaper too). I'll get the primed one right with some spot putty before painting it. Got my Crites Titanium diaphragms for the K-79-K tweeters but held off replacing them because I'm not sure if I should replace the ferrofluid. Also the person I bought the speakers from sent me the Klipsch woofer that was in the speaker before she replaced it with the JBL, but it is a K-43 not a K-48-K as it should be, so now I have to figure out where to get a K-48-K or maybe I'll just have to replace both with Kappas or another suitable woofer.
  9. I see what you mean now. I’ll see if I can dig up the original schematic for the KP 3.0B crossover. I plan on using these as PA speakers when my band plays and shop/practice space speakers when not in live use, so I would like the protective circuitry in place. Also, are you saying that once they protect your tweeters once they become less effective or even useless in terms of protection? Thanks.
  10. Is that the circuitry that prevents blowing the tweeters and mids by limiting the signal? I don’t have any clipped wires that I can see.
  11. Yeah Rick, I love those badges too. These came with the plain brass rectangles with Klipsch in black block letters. I figure I'll keep them since they're the originals (I'm assuming). Thanks to all of you folks helping me out with sources and information on these somewhat mercurial speakers. I am posting pics of my progress in pro audio under kp-301 crossovers. Cheers! Armand
  12. Actually, here are pics of the crossovers. (forgot to hit insert)
  13. Here are pics of the actual crossovers that were in the speakers.....
  14. Aaah! The mystery unravelled. What a cool piece of Klipsch history. Thanks for posting that. I hadn’t ever seen the original brochure.
  15. Dave, it is ok to run the two different crossovers in the same set of speakers? They don’t sound different assuming all the other speaker components are the same? I.e. once I find a K-48 woofer and replace the capacitors.
  16. Here I've begun getting the boxes back to original with some filler after I stripped the many coats of paint, applied through the years, with a belt sander. The front facing edges take a few applications and sandings to get it to where I'm happy with it.
  17. Randy, yes, they are both on wooden boards. I'll post pictures here soon. Just trying to figure out converting .HEIC images.
  18. Thanks so much for the details Dave. This project seemed a bit daunting just because there is not much info on these speakers out there. A few pictures and real world experience and I'm feeling I have a handle on this. Here are the speakers when I first tore them down. Pretty rough but worthy of restoration. 2022-04-24 14.23.40.heic
  19. I think I will. Thanks for the encouragement.
  20. Thanks to you CW. I searched KP-301s on Google every morning for 7-8 months and that lucky morning I saw your alert. They ended up being about 2 hours away. I wish I’d have seen the comment about the $250 on Facebook but I’m very happy as it stands. Full restoration in progress. Thanks.
  21. I ended up buying these KP-301s. They were fairly close and I’ve been looking for a set for almost a year. They are pretty beat up and need work. I’ve stripped them down and am almost done sanding and filling the chips and dents. I have an email in to Crites re crossover repair kit and new diaphragms. One had a JBL E-140 -8 in place of the original K48 woofer. Not sure what to do about that. Anyway thanks for the Alert! I finally found a set of KP-301s.
  22. I’ll post pics from my laptop. Dave, when you recapped your crossovers, which kit did you get? The KP-301 kit from Crites? TIA. Appreciate the knowledge you guys share. Cheers
