  1. At first the upper frequencies seemed a bit harsh. After about 15 hours and playing around with my phono preamplifier settings the upper frequencies are starting to smooth out. Bass is spectacular.
  2. I tried many different preamplifiers including NAD, Marantz, and even Mcintosh. Nothing comes close to the Bottlehead. Very simple design. I picked it up on my local Craigslist about 4 years ago for a couple hundred. The person I bought it from didn't build it but whoever did, did a superb job.
  3. I was on Talking Tubes and was told I should try a different thread. I installed a Rega Ania MC cartridge on my Rega Planar 3 turntable. Any thoughts on the cartridge?
  4. Installed a Rega Ania MC on a Rega P3 with a Rega Neo power supply. The rest of my gear. Klipsch 1990 La Scala, Quicksilver Horn Mono tube, Bottlehead Foreplay preamplifier tube, Vincent PHO 701 phono preamplifier, Klipsch SW ii 12 subwoofer. Was using Ortofon Blue 2m cartridge. Any thoughts on the Rega Ania MC cartridge?
  5. My "other system" 1990 La Scalas, Quicksilver 25watt Horn Mono tube amps, Bottlehead Foreplay preamplifier, Rega Planer 3 with Ortofon Blue cartridge, Vincent phono preamplifier, Rega Apollo CD player. Spinning Pink Floyd Meddle remastered vinyl while posting this. Never sounded better! Sorry for the black and white photo. Will not upload color photo.
  6. I bought the Mcintosh from someone who owned it for 40 years and he was the second owner. It was well taken care of. I tried many different preamps with good results but this is outstanding!! I can't believe how my Decware 2.3 watt amp can make my Forte ii sing! So musical. So full.
  7. Just picked up a Mcintosh C26 from Craigslist. My setup now includes the Mcintosh preamplifier. Decware 2watt tube amplifier, a Bluesound music streamer, And Forte ii speakers. This my first Mac and it pairs well with Decware. All I can say is WOW!!!
  8. Good advice. I recently had the crossovers rebuilt by crites on my 1996 Forte ii.
  9. My Darling 1626 3/4watt amp is a good match too. 75dB-80dB with good bass.
  10. Quicksilver Horn Mono w/KT88 Psvane Treasures
  11. I used both on my La Scalas. I like the Quicksilver better. 25watt vs 2watt. And I can roll in tubes like kt88 and 6l6. It comes with el34. Last time I checked the horn monos were $1495. Same as I paid a few years ago. And I read decwares wait list is extremely long.
  12. No chance of blowing anything anymore. Now I'm using 25watt tube amplifiers.
  13. If you see a hafler transnova, clean, and a good price give it a shot. I ran into a guy that had one hooked up to Heresys and it sounded great!
  14. I miss the haflers. Lots of power. Clean sound. Sold them to let someone else enjoy.
  15. I was using 2 hafler 9270 ss amps bridged in mono putting out I believe 400watts per channel with my La Scalas years ago. I think it was pumping out 120+ decibels!!
  16. I listen to everything from Mozart to Metallica. Classical, jazz, and blues sound excellent through tubes. When playing hard rock or heavy metal solid state to me seems to sound better.
  17. I switched over to tubes about 6 years ago. I was using my 2watt decware to power my La Scalas. Then 2 1/2 years ago I replaced the decware with 25watt Quicksilver horn mono amps. Love em!!
  18. Are you or have you powered any of your speakers with tubes?
  19. I had a pair of Forte ii in the mid 1990's. Sold them because I came across a pair of La Scalas that I still have. What do you have?
