  1. ---------------- The K-55-V is really an Atlas PD5-VH---------------- John, I just learned this recently....I also have a Atlas PD-60T which is identical to the pd-5vh. The 5vh and the 60t actually sound almost identical to me. Do you know if their is a difference? The power rating, impedance are the same and the voice coils look identical. Any input??
  2. I wanted to give the Heresy's a new look. The old cab's were ugly and quite beat up when I got them. A little wood filler and some more black paint would've solved this, but I thought new cabs would look better. My H700's are loaded with type C crossovers. Is this the normal crossover or one of the odd one's you mention??
  3. Malcom, Thanks for the info. In fact, when I bought these heresy's and was unable to find out any info, I emailed you when I saw your avatar of the h700's and you gave me the head's up on exactly what model they were. Everyone in this forum has been very helpful to me but you especially!! Thanks again!!!
  4. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures, I will. I have one of the h700's fully disassembled and all the panels are 1/2". I guess I should build the new cab's out of 3/4" then, or just re-assemble the one I took apart and be the only person in Klipsch land to have stock heresy's with 1/2" cabinets.
  5. Most heresy's I've seen are 3/4", but these are 1971 h-700 theaters and I've mesured the wood a dozen times and they are 1/2" panels, all the way around. I'm pretty sure the cab's are original. The back panel has some of the sticker attached and the serial number is stamped on the back edge of the side panel. I want the cabinet to be as close to the original as possible, so I bought 1/2" birch. Is it possible that the "original" cabs aren't original being that they're only 1/2"??? Should I use 3/4" for the new cab's???
  6. I know it sounds almost sinful, but I'm building new cab's for my 1971 theater heresy's. The cabs were 1/2" ply and had suffered from many paint jobs to cover up gouges and scratches. I've purchased 1/2" birch for the new cab's, and want to do a couple of minor mods. Any input on these mods is greatly appreciated: 1: moving the driver panel back 1/8" to allow space for grills. The original theater cabs had the grill cloth stapled and trim around the outside. I want removable grills so I though this might work. 2: cabinet bracing on all inside joints. The theaters I have don't have any internal bracing and it always seemed noisy. Any input is appreciated. My main concern is changing the internal volume. It wouldn't be much, but is it too much??? Does anyone think the grill idea is a bad one????? Thanks!!!
  7. Thanks for all your help guys. After your help, plus some research, I've found that the woofer and the t-35 look-alike are "peerless" drivers. The mid horn is an atlas pd-60t. Seems the whole darn thing was a kit. The cabinets seem to be to cornwall spec, but are not cornwalls. the sides and risers are all ply birch or pine, where the front and back along with some of the interior pieces are pressboard. I'll probably just sell the drivers on ebay. I I'll post some pictures if someone's interested. They would make a great project for someone. I've got enough projects now.
  8. Gil, Thanks for the info. I don't have a schematic. I was able to make out the values on one of the crossovers. Actually, the resistors don't look like they fried. One of them is solid and the other one was cracked. Either way the caps literally blew up, which left most of the pc board burnt.
  9. I am rebuilding the crossovers in my polk rt-12's. I an only rebuilding them because the cap and resistor caught on fire, and it's hard to sell them without working tweeters......anyway, there was a 2ohm 5 watt ceramic resistor in parallel with the cap. I was able to find some 2ohm 25 watt ceramic resistors from one of my distributors for next to nothing. Will the change in the wattage from the stock 5 watt to 25 watts make a difference in the crossover point??? I read that these types of resistors are used in HPF to make the tweeter sound "warmer"..is that true? What kind of difference will this slightly different part make, if any?
  10. I know the crossover I have is not a klipsch crossover. I'm just curious if the rest of them are older cornwalls, or just some speakerlab kit. Thanks though
