  1. Craig, Sounds like you need some good-ol'-fashioned industrial espionage for bizzy bee.
  2. Hornsandtubes, What can I say...I told you not to get me started! Your experience with CW's I assume was rather limited....otherwise you would not have made some of your remarks...maybe? Funny thing is that even though my Cornwalls are stacked one on top of the other in 2 speaker pairs; and even though they have a dominating appearence in the room--they seem to dissappear when I turn on the music. Talk about a black backround--they are so black they become invisible! There is nothing more beautiful than that. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! Cornwaller
  3. OH NO!...NOT ANOTHER WIRE THREAD!
  4. Craig, Gosh, I THOUGHT THEY WERE PRETTY COOL! This is truly a case where form follows function. Hell at least they are gold--what more could you want? Cornwaller
  5. Oh ya they look cool with the copper cones....but I HATE all the tower style speakers! Since JBL put the design on the drawing board in about 1984 everybody and their brother has been making them since about 1991 or 2. At least JBL had the moxy to make a series that didn't require a subwoofer! The fact is, a tower design is deficient in reproducing anything below 35hz and you always see a sub-unit in the picture. This allows the maker to sell substandard designs and then sell another speaker(s) to make up for the deficiency and help further to line their pockets. ...and don't tell me about the fact that they take up less floor space--that's a givien; but it still is not reason enough to make such a design.(IMO) Don't get me started.... 7. News Flash...... If you buy a player with only a digital optical out you are dependent upon the DAC in the Receiver/preamp--and not the dac in the player. This regime makes very good sense because there should be only one DAC in the chain. This should occur just before final amplification.IMHO. Cornwaller
  8. Lynnm, You are exactly correct and I tried to point out this algo deficient regime in my first post on this topic and it seemed that everybody was so intent on disagreement they couldn't see the logic! Oh well, let them wallow in their own complacency. I guess this copying-burning will ultimately seperate the audiophile from the computer-whizz-bang- I-have-to-copy-this-fast-frenzy. A true musical copy can only be made from a good original CD by the use of an equally good bit-for-bit burner. Period. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! Cornwaller
  9. I have been 'biting my tongue' so to speak since this topic started, now it's time to chime in. I appreciate any and all information I receive on this forum; whether it borders on the commercial or not! Let's face it, when doing research previous to a purchase don't we all seek commercial sources? Further, the amount of it on this forum is so scant I can't imagine anyone complaining about it unless they are jealous. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! Cornwaller
  10. OK guys--64 views and only one reply????!!!! Surely someone out there has an opinion on this. Cornwaller
  11. I would suggest you take a look at the Yamaha DSP 3090. They can be had for about $300 on Ebay and Yam hasn't made anything better until the RXV-1. The reason I say Yam is that a lot of the other guys are using their processing chip! and their units have one of the best DACs made. Cornwaller
  12. The mess of wiring behind my rack "IS" an acid flashback.... Cornwaller
  13. I was told that for someone with audiophile tendencies the second generation sony DTV rec. was best because it was full 32 bit and therefore produced the best sound? Any other wisdom out there? Cornwaller
  14. Hey Guys take a look. A $950 Reserve. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3284&item=1950095128 Cornwaller
  15. Kelly, I appreciate your analysis of the SS preamp dilema. Here is my two cents worth about the Yamaha. It was compared against Krell, Denon, Nad, Bryston to name a few. I have had the luxury to buy the best sounding (or in this case) the least sounding one. This preamp is a very well kept secret. It is smooth, no grain, nuetral, and natural. If you have $250 to experiment with, buy one and try it. I would be most interested to read your review. As to the SS pre worse than the SS amp I don't know that I agree with that either. I look at it like this...As long as we are dealing with a digital signal (cd,dvd, sat.) and you have to go analog at some point, why not stay digital/ss untill the very last piece in the chain--the amp. It is at this point that the one and only DAC is used (the one in the Yam is SUPER!DUPER!) and the result is then left to some pride and joy analog tubes and horns. Youre opinion? Cornwaller
