Now that's interesting,.... unfortunately when my daughter vists stores she gets consumed with taking pictures of purses and shoes from high-end retailers, I had to tell her to stay away from Tiffany's and the Louis Vuitton store......   sheeeze, as if she couldn't get enought that stuff over here.  Well, I guess it's time to go buy some more fishing gear and highfi audio equipment.

There's nothing like buying your very first mid or hifi in a store back 'like in the 80's. Bought my very first Nakamichi BX-125 in 1983 saving money for 5 months  off of my 2 part time jobs and a college student. Maybe the internet nowadays have lots more selection. But the missing ingredients is being there and sharing it with people you know, friends and family. By earning and purchasing my first deck, I was able to learn so much techniques in recording and up to know I still do and own lots of analog music library that became a holy grail in sound collections. Really memorable and like something that money cant buy. Today I still get that old school excitement being in a hi-end hi fi store while enjoying with family and friends. Me and the wife are heading to Japan in October for the hi fidelity districts and the mecca food bazaar. It should be a fun trip!

Being a structural engineer I've got plenty of cool pic's but not as cool as some of the stuff my daughter (who's studying abroad) in Singapore. She sends me picks all the time, some of the buildings are quite different.

Very nice pictures. Have you been there before? If you haven't and your'e planning to go, you can visit Adelphi and you're in for a treat on Hi Fidelity.

I am so truly sorry for your lost. Its a family and it will never go away. Just remember, you did everything you can and most important he knows you love him. That's the best gift you can ever have. My condolences.

My room size is roughly 11 x 14 x 9H, and the speakers are located on the short wall.   When constructed the room has a wall shelving unit in this area that surrounds the stereo in each corner 15"D x 21"W up to the ceiling and across to the other side and down again, like an upside-down U shape.  As I have them spaced @8 ft apart it is necessary to bring the speakers out from the wall about 30" to the front baffle to clear the wall unit, but in reality they are roughly a 6"-8" clearance to the passive radiator to wall unit door when they are angled slightly toward the listening position..  Not ideal but in the other direction I would have to place them on an angle in the corners to clear the large window.  My forte's were built in Nov. '89 and have the 12" passive.  Hope this helps.

That will give me  wider view on my next approach of future speaker cab in my home outside the states. I just want to use the simplest like 1 cabinet per channel and no subs. In my living room its 625 sq. ft. and I'm using a klipsch 8 inch tower and its just perfect for my listening. I like the speakers to work at its full potential so it works out on low and high volumes.

In my home overseas my listening area is 985 sq ft. its kind of long ways. I'm not so sure if its a toss between a 12 or 15 inch speakers.

The reason why I said 15 inch, because in my younger days, I use to make custom boxes and install car stereo. I have made maybe over 400 boxes. The one that I really like the sound the most is either 8 or a 15".

I was thinking if the the 15 inch is too big for a 1000 sq ft, I might have to design a band pass box or a different order.

I think I remember now the sound of a passive radiator. I just havent made one since the late 80's.

Anyways thank you for the follow-up.

Good evening to Almere in the netherlands 😁

I agree , Amused to death is a great audiopile production for test purposes , but the world of music is full with audiophile productions , an endless story imo !

You may try for testing the hights from your set up this one

For an overall musical experience this one

an classic experience is this one

Love the selections. The time when Kool and the Gang are making real classic albums. #3 song brings out the 300b sound.

To update this thread, I eventually took a chance and purchased a mint pair of Forte I's built Nov. '89.  Huge sound even in my small room.  Not overwhelmed with bass at all,  actually I wouldn't want any less.  About 8 ft apart on the short wall.  12ft back to listening position.  There's a wide open holographic presentation to them that I really enjoy.  I'm actually surprised that I enjoy them as much as I do.

I read pretty much all your postings. I want to ask you what is your room size? Is your forte has passive radiator?

Just want to get an idea on referring to my future purchase.

    Thanks CCG.

Have them set up and tuned now. Was feeding them some Dire Straits and Pink Floyd yesterday afternoon and I'm well pleased with the sound quality, impact and look. I have a Fitzmaurice HT Tuba to augment the bottom end, but these sound really awesome as-is. plenty of bottom end.

Still need to install some proper speaker terminals. I've raised the top hat off the bass bin with gold/black chrome spikes and pads.

They really look sharp I think.

I was worried about WAF, but she loves the veneer.

Finished with 3 coats of Waterlox original and orange oil/beeswax polish applied with a green scotch pad and buffed.

Earlier this year I traded in my old HK deck and some cash for a fully restored Naka 480Z.  Had my eyes on a pristine LX-5 but just couldn't justify the asking price.  Be that as it may, the 480Z performs admirably, so real heartache, just smiles....

    IMG_0829.JPG

That's one of my favorite playback deck. The 480 series are the most analog on on the nakamichi's 3 decade series. But they are all excellent in their own way. My recent recording technique is transferring from 2nd master reel, to nakamichi DR-2. Then playback in LX-3 which is pretty much a 480 series with a slight difference in features. Anyways they sound really nice with the early maxell tapes. I been recording on TDK since '81 and pretty much I've learned so many techniques in laying down tracks. This is the first few moments I found myself listening more to maxell tapes.

But when I play the same tape on the later models lets say CR-2A or DR-3, I'm not really enthusiastic about the sound production. The dragon in the other hand is a different story. I have one but I'm not well versed with that deck besides it'll playback almost any tapes sounding like a dream.

  9. Bought my first teac cx-350 mid-fi cassette deck was back back 1980 .  The joy of having brand new deck in the box was such a memorable experience especially from a freshman college, having 2 jobs and living on your own. I got so involve with recordings just pitching ideas from other enthusiast and in the next 3 years I bought my very first Nakamichi BX-300. That really took my recording and listening experience to another level. Until now I still do lots of recordings. Still have my old BX-300 and running perfect. I just set it as a backup. I retired the Teac in 2019 and sold it to a young enthusiast that making his way to hi fidelity with practically almost just gave it to him and hope he's enjoying it. Continue to record more music and still learning new thing everyday.

Too bad he doesn't suit you.
I hope that after the conversion, he will suit you well.

The only difference with my other amp is the bells and whistles of line in, out, 2 tape switch  (loops). I'm pretty much all set besides the last amp I need. My old 80's integrated recording amp is in its last leg. I don't wanna spend money on it besides putting my savings on the new amp.😺

Or the design is not the best.

The amp does what its suppose to do but its not the right application for my existing system setup and needs which is more in recording playbacks. On audiophile listening SE amps sound great and more brilliant even in lower volumes. But they need the help of a sub-woofer so it will sound glorious to fill the lower frequency. My other 300b SE amp is the same. But my 300b PP and 6c33c-b pp may not have the ultimate magic midrange a SE amp offers has but its close enough with the right setup. Anything below 100hz is magical and it doesn't choke on high volumes. SE amps are opposite.

  12. Been running my new 15 watt integrated recording tube amp with all the bells and whistles of recording inputs and outputs. Its just 18 days right now and this is the first custom made tube amp I had that I'm not entirely happy with the outcome. I think I made the wrong decision of getting a SE mode instead of push pull. It breaks up way to early, the bass dynamic sounds flatter and the heat is twice more. I have a 14 watt tube amp that dominates the 65 watt KG tower speakers all day long. This new amp is choking.. OMG! I might end up sending this back and have it changes to a push pull mode.😒
