  1. Last week I hooked up an amp I had been going over and when I powered up the brief flash told me I had a short. Unfortunatly my Quartet speakers were affected I think. The mids are real muddy now, especially sounds like guitars. I would appreciate any leads on where to look, hoping it might have stopped in the crossover network(open cap maybe?). The reason I found this out, I put my Scott amp online to give it whirl and thought it was the problem. Next bought my H-K amp into play and the problem still persists. Must be the speakers then.
  2. Fyi It was explained to me that 12ax7 and 12at7 and for the most part the 12**7 family are similar in build, different in character(personality?). So the 12at7 could be described as a 12ax7 on LSD. Clear as mud?
  3. I'm sure by now a new set of caps in the signal path is due as well as a check to see if the rectifiers are selenium and get those replaced. If the sound is good, I am partial to tubes, give it a tune up!
  4. I've tried 2 different amps since, I thought it was a problem initally with a scott amp but I get the same result with my H-K amp also.
