  1. We are building a new addition that hold a family room and part of an expanded kitchen. I've purchased some Klipsch in-wall speakers for the family room and ceiling speakers for the kitchen. I was reading in some old threads where the in-walls should have about 1.5 cu ft of wall cavity. One old thread showed a mounting box that someone made, but it was filled with batting material. I assumed that the insulation in the wall should be removed to create an enclosure. Is this correct? The manual doesn't address this.

  2. That's called an "effect", and is intentional. Fairly common one too - diffuse the "background" so you focus on the graphics and whatnot.

No, everything is out of focus even the graphics. Watching last night's game, I can't believe a major network allows their program to look that bad.

  3. So do you think you will be applying the DeanG modded xover to these 83's? Does Dean even have an xover designed for these yet?

I haven't heard of Dean doing any mods to the 83s yet. We might have to wait for him to get a pair and devise a plan to improve them. Once I start hear great reports of improvements, it will probably get me thinking. Until then, I'm happy. I think Dean's mods took the 7s in the same direction as Klipsch went with the 7s to the 83s (softer highs, better mid-range).

  4. Mark, what are you replacing your RF-7's with?

    I bought a pair of RF-83s and a RC-64.

Nice, congratulations!! How do you like them compared to the 7's?

I found the 83s to be a little softer in the highs and maybe a little stronger in the mid-range. I had a week to A/B the 83s before deciding. The first night, they sounded awful. I thought they were defective. I let them play for a couple of days while I was at work in case they needed some break-in. They started sounding much better. They seemed to sound better each night. I went back and forth thinking that I had made my decision. Since they continued to grow on me, I decided to keep the 83s. They are both great speakers. Very similar, but a little different. It would be interesting to A/B them again since I haven't listened to the 7s for a while. Then again, that would probably confuse me again.

  5. I can see the damage but not contrasted enough to really tell how bad. You're on the right track though.Make sure you glue any area needed(you might tape off the damaged area so as not to get outside of it with the rest off the repair)),when that dries I'd fill any blemishes with wood putty(not the soft stuff). Then maybe very very lightly sand(keeping it confined to only the repair)with 400,then 800 grit. When it looks pretty smooth clean it,prime maybe and try satin black oil paint.Spraying would be great but you may get a better job with a small model brush if the damaged area is not too big.If the sheen is off you could mix flat/gloss until it's closer.

Anyway that's what I'd have to do,someone else may have a better plan, good luck.

On a related topic,I bought a pair of 83 b stock but they had a few pairs and I got to open the boxes and pick mine.I was gonna get consecutive numbers but had to skip 1 cause the next number had a missing grill and a small scuff(nothing like damage). The pair I got look as good if not better than my 7's A stock.

Fish, I bet you got cherry. My dealer had several cherry, but no black. So, he ordered black (B-stock) for me. I waited several weeks and go this one. They must pickier with the cherry or don't have much problem with the black. I currently have a cherry RC-64 until my black one comes in. I'm a little nervous to see what that one looks like.

  6. I ordered a pair of B-Stock RF-83. One speaker looks beautiful. The other one has this nice defect in the top left front of the cabinet. I figure I can easily make it look better. My thought was to use a little wood glue and a clamp to bring the split wood together. Then a little paint to touch up the area. Does anyone with wood-working or cabinet experience have any advice.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  7. Tom,

Good luck with your cat's health issues. I know how special a friend they can be. A couple of months ago, we had to put our 17 year old cat down after dealing with his diabetes for 9 years (2 insulin shots a day). Putting him down was possibly the hardest thing I ever had to do. Again, good luck.
