  1. I wish i had a dealer nearby that i could have that type of relationship with, but alas i dont. Quite honestly i know more then all of the dealers around here and what worries me i know more about their own products. I could go to Tweeter but thats 4 hours away. I think offering them 10% over 850 is fair but i will wait until i go there to see if thier support is worth it( my SLO dealer no tweeter)
  2. Hello all I wanted to pass on my experience recently dealing with so called Brick and Morter dealers. Many on this forum and others support B&M dealers and chastise some of us who go for the cheapest price on the internet. The main advantage of B&M is actually viewing and listening to the equipment and contuinuous support after the sale. Here is my story I had narrowed my choice down to the Denon 3803 and wanted to audition this unit. I eagerly surfed to the DENON web site and found the dealers closest to me. Of course as i suspected the nearest dealer was 60 miles away so i decided to call before i went down. The first place i called was very friendly and really hyped up the DENON but stated that all they had was one piece and it wasnt hooked up. I asked "can you hook it up so i can see how it performs"? Thier response was "well once its opened we really must sell it to you" Interesting how does this differ from buying it on the web? I then asked "OK what if I purchase the Unit and it doesnt meet my requirement s may I return it"? The answer was no only if its deffective but you could get store credit. Well i wasnt to happy with the other choices he offered so i said thankyou and hungup. Next I called Good Guys in Ventura (100 Miles away) Waited for 5 minutes for someone to come on and asked if they carried the 3803. Sure we do was the response then i asked is it hooked up so i can listen to it. Their response no and we cant hook it up because the wires arent long enough. Sounded like i was talking to some highschool age kid who could give a damn. Then I called a Place in SLO about 60 miles north of me and Bingo They had the Denon and said yes just give us a call about an hour before you come in and we will set up whatever we have for you for an audition. Now thats what i expect. Now after this long message my question is if i audition the DENON at that establishment what would you consider a fair price. The DENON can be had for about 850 online and retails for 1199. Is 900 fair. The B8M supporters have generally stated they are willing to pay upwards of 30% over what they would pay on the internet. Love to hear your responses on this
  3. 1500 is a good price point for a decent entry level moderate system. I would personnally stay away from the HTR line from yamaha they dont really match well with the klipsch. I have a 6 year old Yamaha dspa 3090 which has Dolby Digital only but also has superior and cleaner internals then the HTR line. It will handle everything except component video inputs. they can be had from 300-500 online and the replacement the DSPA1 can be had for 4-600 online (ebay) both great units for the price. That would leave 1000 to spend on speakers. Dont buy the HK subsat system its not what you really want. You could go with a pair of KLF 10s (500) online the KLFC7 2-300 online and some synergy surrounds or the SB2 for your surrounds (depends on if you like direct radiating surrounds or bi/dipolar) So my advice in short NEW/PRICE/BUYAT USED/PRICE/Buyat AMP HK AVR 520/499/Onecall.com Yamaha DSPA3090/A1/400/EBAY Front Spkrs Klipsch SF2/500/Soundcity.com Klipsch KLF10/20s/500-700/ebay Center Klipsch SC1/200 or less/same KLipsch KLFC7/KSFC5/180-250/ebay Surround Klipsch SS1/300 or less Klipsch KSFS5/2-300/ebay or new Klipsch SB2/300 or less You must call soundcity try x708 and talk to john you will get an authourized dealer at a great discount. Sub Save and go with and SVS sub Hope this helps either way you go i think you will be happy. Just remember if you want new go to soundcity.com and call them Good luck
  4. Try soundcity.com x708 jon will hook u up and they are authorized unlike brandnamz
  5. Do you want to get me on a rant here? I was just giving the lad some advice and where i had seen the pioneer for the lowest price. My post clearly stated that getting it with a warranty was important, having said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with using any means to get the product you want. I live in LOMPOC california and i have no true local Hi Fi dealer which sells either the Pioneer Elite or the Denon so I guess you feel i should drive upwards of 2 hours to demo this at a BM place and then pay tax and their excessive prices? You arent serious are you? I understand that if we dont support local hifi shops they will go away and we will all suffer but i am not willing to spend full MSRP on a 4000 unit when i can get it for half that. I also have no service centers within 100 miles so getting an extended warrenty through these so called unathorized dealers is a better deal because there are people only 6 miles away who will repair these and other units. Who is the real culprit here the consumer or the massive electronics company who somehow sells these items to UNauthorized dealers then complains when they are sold and wont honor their own warranty. I dont know all the particulars of how these websites get these items but they do and pioneer has to sell them to someone to get them there. anyways there is so much more important things going on today so RANT OVER
  6. would you recommend the 49tx at 1599 i could always upgrade later on for firewire if i need it.
  7. ---------------- On 2/1/2003 4:15:18 PM Ou8thisSN wrote: I have 3 questions, to which I have found neither answers online or on the AVS forums. 1. Does the Pioneer upconvert any video signal to component video, and output it at 100Mhz? The Denon definitely does that and lists it on their site. Pioneer doesnt. 2. Why is the Pioneer MSRP ($4500) more expensive than the Denon ($4300), when it offers less WPC RMS (130<170)? Are there anymore features on the Pioneer that arent available on the Denon? what am I missing? 3. Is the Pioneer considered a "warm" amplifier? ---------------- 1. Yes the Pioneer upconverts to 100MHZ 2. Their are many reviews on the Pioneer do a search on google.com PIONEER 49TXI review. Their is a review on DOCDVD.COM on the 49TX comparing it to the 5800. Denon also reports the wpc somewhat questionably. 3. The Pioneer utilizes MOSFET which are considered warm. Now the real question is which can you get cheaper and covered under warranty isnt it. Both Receivers are currently at the top of the highend receiver realm (minus the BK 5700 rotels Mcintosh and the like) They are the best that japan can offer (yamaha RX-Z1 comes close) Right Now you can go to ecost they have the 49TX available for 1599 Then sometime late you can get it upgraded for firewire for 500 from pioneer. hope this helps
  8. agree with the previous post, I just purchased the RC3II and its very good to excellent at its pricepoint 219 at soundcity.com I would spend an additional 200 and get some klipsch bookshelfs as mentioned above. If price is a consideration then consider the Energy take 5 or Take 5.2 system also give a look to UBID.COM they have the mission ht70 package which has 5 speakers and a decent sub for 246.00 mission make quality products i have them in my bedroom setup. BTW its in ubids warehouse not an auction. hope this helps either way get rid of the BOSSEEEEE
  9. Thanks bruins unfortunately i just read this and its past 4pm east coast time should i reference your conversation when i talk to this guy?
  10. Ouch Bruins, I tried to get in touch with ECOST but i was on hold for 10 minutes and decided to try again later. The site specifically says that elite will cover the warranty and i agree with u when the factory refurbs the unit it carries the original warranty. at that point i dont believe it has to be sold via the B&M route. Having said that ECOST website also states that they are not responsible for anything missing from the refurb units so if you dont get the mike or remote i guess you SOL. Pray for Columbia
  11. Bruins do you know if what they say is true with regards to the warranty? It states on the website that its covered for two years by pioneer elite?
  12. Just to you let you guys know I ran across this befor and ask the question about the warranty the website says ELITE covers it for two years does anyone know if thats true? 13. Two incredible films left off this list so far Pink Floyds the Wall and brad pitts best film to date and IMO one of the top 10 movies of all time 7 (SEVEN) There are many more but these two are at the top of my list
  14. Just talked to Yamaha USA and they dont know the answer for sure either as this is an overseas yamaha amp. they assume that it will since its the euro equivilant of the RX-Z1 (they said that not me) but they will not support here because they dont have the tech manuals.
  15. Interesting observation Denon Vs Harmon truth be told Harmon was always considered amongst the elite until they went main stream and quite honestly started producing less the quality gear. Denon is now heading down the same road. HK now is on par with Denon with the exception of its flagship Denon now has at least 3 or 4 models that has what the 8000 has on it or vastly more. Of course you can get the 8000 for less then those DENONS. I have a Yamaha and they to have gone down this road in the past few years. Their top stuff is still great but some of their low end stuff really sucks. Can you go wrong with HK or DENON prob not just make sure you buy it from a reputable dealer (authourized) and of course listen to both. Your ears will guide you my friend So endeth the lesson
  16. Interesting reading MOON. Whats with the massive dropoff between the two units 100watts vs 50watts. If the cheaper one does come in at 1400 it would have to be one of the most expensive 7x50 receivers ever built. Having said that we all have very effecient speakers so maybe thats not an issue but im of the opinion the more power on demand the better what is your thoughts
  17. I guess i got everyones attention I have no beef with anyone why oh why would i be unhappy with a fellow yamaha owner MOON did you check with J and R and see if their unit is from the same jan 02 time frame?
  18. Also i didnt tell you to give them my name because im not in it for the 1% referral fee Im in it for the love of Home Theater and Klipsch
  19. Geez its as if i didnt post at all. Could have sworn it was me that said go to ONECALL first. I deserve some respect dammit
  20. yes generally speaking amps with more watts per channel have that higher amount of headroom that really makes smaller speakers sing. Believe the B&K is a perfect matchup for any of the ref towers i just wish i could get one for say 12-1300.
  21. Moon this amp is all over the place for 12-13 and onecall has them for 1138 check out the link http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_11379.htm. J and R has it for 1299 i think their authorized.
  22. ---------------- On 1/27/2003 9:56:43 AM mca_bagom wrote: Ebay looks tempting, but not too sure about safety. Any other stores you guys have bought from? ---------------- Go to soundcity.com they have the full line of klipsch and the are authorized. Do not buy on the website call the 1-800 number and press x 708 john will be glad to give you a great deal on Klipschs I just got my RC 3 series 2 for 219. that beats all ebay dealers i have seen and they are AUTHORIZED.
  23. Hello all i was wondering if any one knows if the Yamaha DSP-AX1 component input (3) and component output (1) is HD capatable. I cant find any information on it. I do know that the Yammy can be updated with software updates. thanks
  24. My other question it this: I find significant price variations in the rsw 10 between "stone and brick" dealers and internet dealers. The difference is about $350 bucks (non trivial). The internet dealers advertise that their equipment is brand new in the box. The rsw 10 is doable for me at the internet price but not for the stone and brick reatil price. However I am concerned about getting a refurb unit or no manufactures warrenty. If you are still interested in a RSW contact sound distributors (sounddistributors.com) and punch in x708 John will give you a great price and they are factory authorized. I recently purchased the RC 3 series 2 for 219 from them. good luck
  25. Since you state you will use your system for 95% home theater i believe the ref system will work for you. I would also audition the Def Tech 2002s your new receiver is a great start either of these speaker system i have mentioned will sound marvelous
