  1. Of course there is a break in for speakers and electronics. I might agree with the assertion that you as the listener get acclimated to the sound of the equipment but how can you explain the same electronics the same speakers in the same place and over time the sound becomes better. Much like a great touring car the parts work better when "broken in" of course this is all subjective. and i could be wrong9.gif

  2. Denon 3803, B7K 307, Rotel 1055 Pioneer elite VSX 47... Help me out, I have a 53 inch HDTV With a progressive scan DVD player and a HDTV DIRECTV receiver. But I Also want great 2 channel sound. Is Rotel or B&K the only way to go. Which will reach the deepest and tightest lows and is not overly bright. HELP HELP HELP

    Let me clarify.

For your speakers to play you have to send them a signal. Your speakers have 2 pairs of binding posts. One pair for the hi's and another for the lo's. You could remove the jumpers from between the speaker binding posts and send a signal to the hi portion of the speaker by running the speaker wire to the hi posts and run a sub cable from the receiver sub out to the speaker lo input. I imagine you could even use a 'Y' cord at the speaker end of the sub cable and plug one end of 'Y' into lo input and the other 'Y' end to the LFE input (consult your owners manual).

Then you would have to have available in your receivers bass management a setting that says 'LFE + Main'. You would then set the lo and LFE gain controls on speakers to your preference. I tried this and prefer to use speaker level using jumpers, as above, and sub cable from receiver sub out to LFE input for LFE only.

I hope this makes sense. I worked all night.

Leave the shiny jumper straps in place between the lo/hi speaker binding posts. Adjust bass gain so that the sound is balanced and not 'bassy'.

Run sub cables from your receiver's sub outputs to each LFE input on each speaker. Set speakers 'large', sub outs to 'LFE only' in receiver bass management.

    Use regular 12/14 ga multi-strand.

Your recommendation would be to leave the speaker wires in the bottom (lo position)? thanks

  5. Hello, I own a pair of RP-5s and i am looking to utilize them in the best way possible. Currently i have my yamaha amp sent to large and use the "low" on the speaker level inputs. What can i do to get the best sound out of my system.. Please add any speaker wire choices you have found that make a diff. My yamie allows for dual subwoofer oututs so should i be utilizing this function? any help will be greatly appreciated. Yes i am also looking to upgrade the Yamaha to a B&K or Pioneer Elite in the somewhat near future.

I have seen salamander designs, billy bags, target audio and others. My question is. 1. What do you own. 2. Why you like/dislike it. 3. Price ? 4. Any other suggestions ? I am not a DIY in this areas. Most of my creations look, well unfinished.

I have the bdi axis 8022 in Cognac

    here is the link

    http://www.bdiusa.com/avfurniture/axis_8022.shtml

paid about 600 for it 2 months ago and absolutely love it... less the 20 minutes to put together and holds even the heaviest amps. (well almost all of them)

  7. Your own ears must ultimately make the final decision.

Agree with that assessment the only problem is getting a B&K amp here in my house to hear the difference. I did note on their website that a dealer is within 15 minutes of my locale which is almost unheard of where Im located. Thanks for the input it looks like i will have to decide sometime between the pioneer elite 49 tx the B&K 307 or some other setup.16.gif

  8. Hello I have a 12 x 20 listening room with my rp-5s at the 12 ft wall. I had to run a search on the e-bay a/v receivers for just "8000". You will get the AVR 8000 among other things. You will see that the items sold by HK are labeled AVR 8000Z. The Z means a refurb unit.

I just happened to luck into mine for $1095.

I have seen them going for a little more.

do a search on Yamaha on this forum and you will find that it is not the first choice of many when compared to Denon, for whatever reason, but you should always listen to it first and see what you like ...

Even though I own a great yamaha amp i have to agree as it relates to quality per dollar spent. Dennon still seems to have that elite (no pioneer pun intented) sound and isnt just another mass producer like pioneer and sony. Id say in the last 5years or so yamaha is slipping ever closer into the pioneer sony area. I still believe their top of the line equipment is on par with the denon but unless you are willing to pay 3000 i would go with the Denon. Hurts me to say as i have had some sort of yamaha amplification for almost 20 years in my systems, but its the truth.

TV- 36" Sony Wega XBR(Maybe 57" Sony Widescreen)

*** general rule is three times the height of the screen. I assume you would be sitting around 9' from the screen which is what I have for my 55" so I would recommend the 57" unless you prefer direct view TVs.

** I assume you are getting a model with DVI

** There are several good brands to choose from (Mitsu, Pioneer, Hitachi, Toshiba for example) and opportunities to negotiate price. See Hometheaterspot.com and AVSforum.com

** Have an HDTV reception & record strategy? OTA Antenna? SAT? Cable? Digital VCR? PVR?

DVD- Sony Progressive Scan (which model?)

** a lot of people seem to like the Panasonic RP82 and 72 Progressive Scan in low price range of Progressive Scan players.

    ** I love Netflix.com for DVD rental--my virtual library.

    VCR- Undecided

** I like my JVC SVHS players I bought refurbished on UBID for $160 a couple years ago but I'm trying to minimize the use of tape.

** I'm focused on an HDTV DirecTV/TiVO combo box rumored for release in the US in 03. DISH already has one for early 03.

    Game Consoles- Xbox and PS2

** I have PS2 but would have Xbox if it was out when I bought the PS2...it has better graphics...I only want one.

** get the component video cable & optical sound cable

    Receiver- Denon 3802

** 3803 has component video switching and some have said a slightly better sound

** I use the Outlaw 1050 because it is available as B-stock for $438 (used with warranty pass under $400) and for 6.1 sound the reviews are very close to the 3802...one said slightly better debth for 3802. Of course 3802 has DPLII, 7.1 and other features.

    Speakers- RF3 II(mains), SC-1(rear and front center), SS-1(surrounds), and a RSW-10 for the sub.

** check the product part of the Klipsch site and stay with all timbre matched Reference Series that fit your space.

    ----------------

The answer to all the questions posted are really based on your budget. Obviously i would timber match the RF3 IIs with other speakers from the reference range as listed on the klipsch website. My living area is 20X12 but the actual distance to my tv is about 15 ft and it sometimes can be overbearing, My recomendation to you is keep the wega for now and in a years time get a 50 inch plasma. by then the prices for quality 50 inch displays will be in the mid to low 3000s im sure the sony you are looking at can be had for less but for about 1200 more you could be looking at less space and imo a better picture. as posted the AVSforum is a good place to find information on all display devices.

I have bought once from Crazy Eddie (about 6

weeks ago) and wasn't too happy with the

situation. First off, they make up for good

    prices by charging rediculous shipping

charges. I bought a DVD player and

they charged $27 shipping! I almost stopped

the order when I heard the shipping amount, but

I didn't. The saleswoman told me "Oh they

pack it really nice". I kept calling back to

possibly cancel since I was annoyed at the

shipping. They told me that they couldn't

provide a tracking number, but it had definitely

shipped. When I finally got a tracking number,

I found that it had not shipped at the time of

my many calls. It finally shipped out of

Florida! After more than two weeks, I finally

received the DVD player. It was simply shipped

in it's original box with a label stuck on it.

There was a nice small hole in the side from

shipping (some nice packing for my $27).

Luckily, there was no damage to the player and

    it worked fine.

    ----------------

Thanks for the info.. thats probably why they only rate 3 out of 5 stars by yahoo shopping. Your statement about shipping is correct these sites gouge the consumer on shipping when they receive the cheapest shipping rates base on the amount they ship over the year. The RC-3 II can be had from an authorized dealer about an 1 hours drive from my location the price is 299 + tax so about 325. thats about 75 dollars more then the cheapest place online and not authourized. But for that price i could get some quintets for my front effects and the rc-3 II. Decisions decisions.4.gif

I'm sure you read the Authorized Dealers statement on the Klipsch site, so I won't repeat the gist of that here.

To the best of my knowledge, there are NO authorized Internet dealers for Klipsch (except for UBID), including OneCall. Authorized dealers may advertise on the 'net that they have Klipsch, but unless they are willing to deliver it personally (versus a common carrier), they are not permitted to sell and ship out of the area.

Depends on how much of a savings you get. If you figure the possible risk of not getting it repaired for free during the warranty period is worth the savings, go for it. Or, if you deal with a reputable non-authorized dealer (i.e. has been in business for a while, deals straight with you, has good reviews/feedback) you can check how they cover the warranty and see if you are comfortable with it. Most repair it themselves or pay someone to repair it for you.

As far as onecall is concerned they are authorized to sell discontinued klipsch products. The products carry the full klipsch warranty. AAFES is the army and airforce exchange service and are authorized to sell klipsch and they had the rc 3 II for 299 and i had a rebate of 15% off but when i went to buy it they informed me they will no longer carry this model. 8.gif Hopefully if im patient i will find a good deal somewhere.
