  1. I'm from Atlantic Canada and have not heard of the "Best Buy". Judging from the comments here, I assume that it is similar to K-mart or Walmart. I surtainly would not expect to a decent pair of speakers at one of these locations, what would be wrong with trying to reach some of the potential audiophile that may not shop at a/v centers. This may be an opertunity to introduce the Klispch line to a larger audiance. The Synergy line, although maybe not the same as the reference line, would certainly be a giant step from the speakers normaly in these stores. Why not try people the opertunity to sample quality. After being introduced to whats out there they may continue on the quest for excellence. I do undestand the possibility of degrading the name, but we know the quality that is there and alwasy has been. I just hope that Klipsch don't start reducing the quality of the synergy line to place them in these stores at a more competitive price. I believe that that would be similar to a few other high quality names, i.e. H/K. Here's to Klipsch producing the quality and excellence that we haw all enjoyed long into the future.
  2. No, I'm just getting into mod stage too. I haven't any experiance in dampining the cabnet, that may be next after I figure out how to build some interconnects. Just picked up some 16 gauge monster for the squawker and tweeter. I hope to have it installed this weekend and I'll post my thoughts. On the way into town, I was wondering what they put in a new set of heritage speakers. Do they still use the zip cord or can you specify the monster Z as in the reference series?
  3. Found some sources for the static, has anyone built their own interconnects. I have turfed a couple in the last month, but I found another bad connection from the tape deck #1 and my turn table. I was thinking if it was not too difficult to built an interconnect, I sould be able to replace the one in the turntable. it seams that twenty years id the life spane on these old cables, or it could be the two year old son the like to play hehind the entertainment center.
  4. I am well underway hot wiring my heresy's. I started with the upgrade of the speaker cables for twenty year old 18 gauge wire to 12 Gauge Acoustic Research cables(pro series II oxygen free). These cables did make some audible difference, but I didn't stop there. I picked up some 12 gauge Monster Cable (Precision stranded "Time Correct" Speaker cable with magnetic flux tube and LPE dielectric) that I ran from a new set of binding posts to the crossover then the the woofer. The speaker cables use a lot of fancy terms to lable their cables, but I used these out of convenience and practicality. The AR Pro II were at the right place at the right time and price. I ran across the monster cable later and I thought that they would work verey well inside of the speaker cabnet, because of the more compact size and wire flexability. This stuff was a pleasure to work with compaired to the AR Pro II. As for the squawker and tweeter, the tweeter I left alone for now and experimented with some DIY cables for the squawker. I thought that I would try using a set of cat-5 combining eight 24awg cables together, one cable for pos and one for neg. Now, how did everything turn out. Well, cables and hot wiring certainly make a difference, some good some not so good. The bass is much lower and I am hearing things that I hadn't before. Similar coment's come to mind for the squawer as well. I was ammazed with the piano form Elton John & Phil Collins, it seamed like my head was suffed right in the piano and I could amlost see the hammer striking the strings. but, I soon got tired of that and I think that I am picking up some static, so the diy cat5 will soon de coming out. I am trying to decide if I can keep some of the clarity but tone it down a bit with more Monster Cable as before but the 16 gauge instead of the 12. Other than that I think that I will return the zip wire back to the squaker. Does anyone have a suggestion.
  5. What are kind of solder are you using for your speaker wire upgrades, 60/40, silver, lead free etc?
  6. I had the Idea to look for old HK amps which I haven't done for some time. maybe these things are always floating around? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3003976362&category=3280
  7. Is this worth looking at? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3003454564&category=14973
  8. "I believe you have what we have nicknamed Heresy 1.5. They are mid-80s Heresies with HII squawkers. Technically, they are '85 model HIs." John Albright I read John's "Heresy Crossover Mod - Less Bright" today and becae very intrigued with the idea, such a small mod could make large difference. Any way, I thought that I would follow John's instructions. After palying music wonderfully without complaint for the past fifteen years, I removed the back for the second time in as may weeks. I immediately saw somethings differently than I had last week. The the tweeter in #31 was indeed a K-77, I have no idea why I thought that I saw 75, that's what you get for opening and closeing both speakers before you get a piece of paper and write things down. as well, the blurred stamp on both squakers resemble K-53K. So I'm left with Heresy I tweeters & woofers and Heresy II Squawkes. But thats not all, on to the crossover mod. As I tooked at the crossover it became evident that things were not the same as the diagram I saw on the type-E. I quickly looked at the stamp on the side "Type-E2". I as attaching a diagram that I quickly drew up. I am not an Electrical Eng , so I hope some of you guy can fill in the blanks. Maybe there is a copy of the type-E2 floating around in the forum, I ahve not looked yet. I did not see any taps of ways to modify the cross over. Anyway, I thought that someone might find it interesting. This is what I found in my '85 Heresy Crossover Type-E2 8556731 Tweeter - K 77 Mid Horn - K 53K Woofer - K 22K 8556732 Tweeter - K 77 Mid Horn -K 53K Woofer - K 22K
  9. This is what I found in my '85 Heresy 8556731 Tweeter - K 75 Mid Horn - K 53R Woofer - K 22K 8556732 Tweeter - K 77 Mid Horn -53 Woofer - K 22K It look as if xxx31 has had some work done to it while it was a demo befor I purchased them. I have wondered if I sould replace the K-75 with a K-77, but my question now is, caracterisicly how does the K-53 compair to the K-55V. I am intreguged by this modification mentioned and I can hardly wait to try it out. I glanced quickly at the cross over and if I remember correctly they have the type -E, I'll have to verify that later. I am kind of leaning towards the tweeter mod alone first, any sugesstions.
  10. I would say that since these speakers were demos, they may have need repair before I bought them. does the R in the K-22R not mean replacement? I wonder if the would have thrown a k-75 in as a replacement for the k-77. That said, sould I look into fetting a K-77 to replace the k-75? I have used them for 14 years without any real problems though. I would like to change the binding block to a more modern one, any suggestions. I think that I would like the klispch logo, so I may see if I can get a pair of replacemnt posts for the HeresyII.
  11. I have a pair of '85 Heresy with the old screw type connection. It shouldn't be a difficult upgrade, does anyone have a suggestion for new binding post and where I could get them?
  12. How about this, 2/3rds heresy and 1/3 HeresyII. I just pulled the back off and this is what I found; 8556731 Tweeter - K 75 Mid Horn - K 5?R - plastic horn (# were smudged either a 53, 55, 56, 58) Woofer - K 22K 8556732 Tweeter - K 77 Mid Horn -53 Woffer - K 22K I think the verdict is in, I'm going with '85 Heresy. Thanks for the help guys.
  13. There are several scews holding the back panel in place, but I haven't had it off in years so I'm not sure were things are mounted. I just retrived the warrenty card that I had filled out when I bought the Heresy's. I guess it was Dec 16, 1988, I was off be one year and three days. The serial numbers are 8556732 & 8556731 .
  14. Stands amy be an over statement, more like risers. They raise the front to 2 3/8" and the rear 1/2" off of the floor. I went back and checked my drawing. 12'-9" and I'm looking down the barrel of the tweeter. 13'- 8" was actually a mid point or a happy medium I tought between the mid and high horn. The midrange is crosses the ear level at 14'- 8.4". Enough with the numbers, I thought that they would sound better angled upwards rather that at my knees and I wanted them off of the floor. I'll do some trial and error, maybe I'll go with a straight 3" lift. thanks for the input.
  15. I bought my heresy's in '89. I started looking looking for new pair of speakers three yrears previous. After looking at numerous brands & models, I stumbled across a Klipsch dealer. There I fell in love with the Heresy. At double the price range I was looking I decided that these were the ones & I had to wait and save my money. One Dec 19, 1989, I was driving by the audio store, which had moved across town, and went in. The was the first time that I had looked at a pair of Heresy's in ~ 18 months. I asked the salesman how much he wanted for them. His reply was "they are the floor model, but you can have them for" half of what I was bartering for a year and a half before. SOLD.. He only one box for the Heresy II. That's fine I thought, I'm getting a deal and I'm getting out of here. Packed them in the cab of my truck and went home. For years afterwards I wondered, Did I get hte Heresy's or Heresy II. Doesn't really matter cause they sound great. I don't remember why now, but I was originally looking for the Heresy's. Maybe because all of the info I found on the Heresy II had the black oak cabnet, I prefered oiled walnut. 13 years, a wife two kids and a house latter, the audiophile inside has been reborn. Off I go insearch of new product info. Low and behold, I find a news group full of pertinent information and they still remeber the Heresy. now I'm trying to figure out what version I have, one or two. From what I can see, All H-II have binding post that will accept banana clips and a logo Heresy II. That rules mine out. The certificat on the back has Heresy - Type H-WO, Serial No. xxx, Inspected by Sally Jones etc. I can't find any indication of the production date. I have noticed the binding area on some late 70's cornwalls, it's a small 2 1/2" by 1/2" block with screw type connections. Is there a way to date this. I wonder, is there a way to search the serial number to find the date that they were actually made?
  16. I decided that I wanted to get my heresy's off of the floor, so I designed and build a set of stand. I angled the stands so that the midrange horn was pointing directly @ ear level when sitting 13' away. After everything is setup, I sat down for an evaluation. It seams to image and sound ok, but when I stand up in the same spot everything becomes briter. Could this be my imagination, I started wondering if the Heresy's were ment to stand flat with the horns directed sligty upwards?

    AVR 25

Is anyone interesed in an HK AVR25. $50 on ebay 10 min left. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3000735099&category=14981
  18. For a 25' run to a pair of Heresy
  19. Would Acoustic Research Oxegen free 16awg be suitable or do I really need the 12awg
  20. I went to the local Paradigm dealer to listen to the PW-2200. As i figured, They don't have one in stock, But could have one in threee days if I wanted to put down a deposit. So I decided to listen to what they had. First room, a Paradigm pw-1000 ~$550.00 then the ps-1200 ~750.00. They worked ok, but they seamed a bit flat or dull i.e. boomy. I would say that they would not crack the wall as the salsement said. then onto an 8" B&W asw-300, this worked surprisingly well, crisp and a little faster punch then either the ps-1000 or 1200. Finally, the third room had a 12" Mirage lf-150. This work ok and got the salesman to get the B&W and Mirage together. The diffenece between the 8" and 10" was obvious. I guess there is no subsitute for size. I went home after listening to a $1,400.00 dollar set of B&W floor standing speakers with and without the asw-300, turned on my 19 year old amp amd 14 year old Heresy's, threw in an old junk cd, sat down my chair. Chucking to myself in delight of the sounds that I was hearing I tought, what could be better. Obviously it could be better, but this reminded me how nice this old system sounds.
  21. Just to jump in here, How does the NAD theatre system rate in this group. I have owned a NAD 3150 for years (approx. 19 years) and I will soon be looking for a HT reciever, is there somting equal or better for less money? I would agree that the power output with the Klipsch is the issue. Get the HT that can reproduce a full freq. range with the least amount of distortion. The T761 produces 80watts x 5 with less than 0.08% total harmonic distortion @ a freq range of 5k - 20k ± 0.8db.
  22. Thanks for the info guys, I'll have to go in surch for a Paradigm dealer to compair thier price. Is there a way to what size or how much power a sub should have. right now I have a pair of Heresy's powered by a NAD 3150, approx 55 to 65 watts/chan if I remember correctly. I my future, I would like a center and two surounds with a NAD T761 Approx 80 w/c.
  23. elcap373, I also have a pair of Heresy'sand I am looking to purchase a subwoofer for them, can you let me know how your ksw-12 works for you. thks
  24. Let me ask this, I haven't look at the Klipsch lineup Since '89 just after the KG4 and Forte came out, is the synergy line just an older technology or was it produced to be a cheaper series then the Reference?
  25. I am looking to upgrade my sterio sys. I have a pair of Heresy bought in '89. After reading thru this forum, I have decided that the RSW-10 is for me. However, at $1,700.00 Canadian, I am wondering if the KSW-10 @ $700.00 would be suitable. On another note, I have seen quite a few people making reference to the Heresy. I am suprized. I have always loved them, but I thought with all the new technolgy that they would have been forgotten.
