  1. I have the Yamaha rxv 630 without the phono, I tried all the other inputs with the same results, a small amout of sound, clean but faint, so where can I get a good preamp for the turntable. I've got about $3.50 in the power cord and I will spend $25.00 for the stylus, I'm tapped out on the audio gear if the TT wasn't a gimmie this wouldn't be an issue so the least expensive amp is where I sit.
  2. A friend of mine cleaned out his garage and gave me a Technics SL-BD27 turntable with the technics P24 cartridge, I had to dend the stylus back in shape and buy a power cord just to see if it worked and it did. All I needed to do was dust it off, the inside looked new and well lubed, when I hooked it up it to the yamaha it had very little noise comming through the speakers but did play on both channels, I believe I need an amp, I can't put any money into it right now so can I use a Rat Shack amp to get by or do I need to wait and consider something else I know absolutly nothing about amps so any recomendations are helpfull. I have about 200 lps that haven't been played in 20 years so I'm a little anxious. Also opinions on this turntable please. Thanks, Jack.
  3. This forum has helped me find the Velodyne VHT15, the only problem, I haven't listened to it. All the reviews that I have read are very good, since I trust this board I hope to get a good amount of review from you as to how well this will work with my system. The only change that I will make to what I currently have is a more powerful reciever and a center speaker. Any input on personal experience good or bad with the CHT15 is much needed, as you can probably tell all I need is that little extra push, I just want to make sure it is in the right direction. This next sub CHT15 or not needs to be the final one. Thanks, Jack.
  4. RRRush Thanks for the info., as far as all the reviews go for this sub it seems to be the best for the money to go with what I have, the only draw back is I haven't heard this sub myself. I am going to post one more time to see if anyone has any personal experiences good or bad that I should be aware of. Thanks again. Jack.
  5. Eric Sorry for the late reply as I have been on vacation, if you could find anything on the velodyne I would be most grateful. Thanks jack.
  6. Circuit City is no longer reordering that sub and has discounted it for clearance the trick is to find a store that still has one, I'm in the process of calling all the stores in a three state area around South Carolina.
  7. Need a bigger sub looking for a Velodyne cht 15.
  8. Need a bigger sub looking for a Velodyne cht 15.
  9. When I turn up the LaScalas the Boston pv 600 seems to fade away so I need more hard hitting base. I like to listen to music as well as movies, my options for several reasons are the Velodyne cht12 or the dls4000 anyone have any input on how these will work with my current setup? Thanks Jack.
  10. I wish I had the option of the Klipsch sub, Tweeter doesn't sell Klipsch any longer so right now my choices are limited especialy since I am trying to get the $300 credit from my current sub.
  11. I pretty much have to deal with Tweeter on this issue because of the speaker trade up option, I currently have the Boston pv600 and it doesn't work well enough with the LaSala fronts, I paid $299 and can get that credit at the store on another sub, I originally wanted the Velodyne cht15 but Circut City sells that model and Tweeter wont order it for me so I have to settle for something else that Tweeter sells. $600 is where I want to be on the upgrade so it appears to be the Velodyne dls 4000b or the Boston pv900. Any opinions on these sub or other subs that Tweeter may sell would be very helpfull. Thanks.
  12. greg928s4, I just bought a pair of 1985 Lascalas, how much would charge for a set of black grill covers top and bottom, and do you have a picture of a finished set?
  13. mbajnr, I live in Charleston S.C. paid $800 for them. They are from the original owner with the owners manual and a framed promotional poster. I asked on this forum what would be a fair price for the 1985 unfinished birch Lascala and was told $700-$900. After looking on Ebay for little over a year that estimate is pretty close, depending on the finish and condition it could be a bit higher. I checked other internet sites and found that they are selling anywhere between $700-$1300. I would first ask in this forum if anyone has Lascalas for sale as these members are more likely to have quality well taken care of equiptment than just anyone selling on ebay. It seems that more speakers are located in the midlands to the west coast, if your are in driving distance you could listen before buying and save a good amount on shipping. I waited a year (long time to wait) and got lucky, these Lascalas were 15 minutes from my house. Well worth the wait.
  14. Just bought a pair of 1985 unfinished birch lascalas, was wondering what did they cost new in 1985 and what do they cost new now? Couldn't find this info on the web. By the way I'll be picking them up this Saturday, can't wait, worse than a kid in a candy store.
  15. Thanks for the input, I will plan on recessing everything.
  16. Thanks for the offer on the sub but I have to utilize the money invested at Tweeter on the sub I purchased 3 months ago, got to do the trade up thing.
  17. I have a perfect wall to recess all my entertainment equiptment, when finished everything would be flush with the finished wall. My concern is will I loose any dynamics by having the speakers recessed and raised about a foot also plan to recess the sub. Any opinions? Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the input, I have never listened to anything klipsch of this size, hopefully I'll be able to get the speakers, I've waited a year just to find a pair in driving distance and these are only 15 minutes away. Crossing my fingers. Jack.
  19. I am looking at buying a pair of Lascalas purchased by the original owner in 1984. I don't know the serial numbers. These speakers have the AL crossovers, do they have the plastic horns or metal, is there a difference or are these speakers inferior to any other Lascalas? What would be a fair price for the unfinished birch 1984 Lascala in good condition with all original parts? Thanks, Jack.
  20. I looked at the Velodyne cht 15, I never considered a 15'" would this be overkill. I have a Yamaha rxv-630 75 pwc receiver, with this size, and not driving the sub hard, could I still get tight base for music as well as lows for movies. I'm guessing I will probably need an additional amp for the sub. Can I get away with doing that later? If so then I would consider the cht-15 as my system will continue to grow, just want to be happy with what I do as I go. Thanks for the input. Jack.
  21. That would be $600 total, there is so much that I want, it's going to be a slow long process getting there. This Tweeter deal may not be the best economically but it makes it possible to upgrade without a depreciation of the product so I gotta do what I gotta do, however I will probably upgrade again in less than a year or so.
  22. Sorry it took do long to reply, been working. It looks as though I may need to wait until I get the right mains before I worry about the center, I guess I got a little too enthused and was putting the cart before the horse. I'll just keep reading and making notes. Thanks for all the input. Jack.
  23. I currently have a Boston Acoustic pv600 with a Yamaha rxv-630, Heresy II fronts, and kg2 rears with a 50" rptv. I bought the sub from Tweeter and can do an upgrade and get full credit for money paid for it. The only subs they sell are Boston Acoustic, Mirage, Velodyne, and Martin Logan, the later not being an option because of the price. I'm looking to spend about $600 on the next sub. Tweeter has the Boston Acoustic pv 900 or the Velodyne dls 4000, which would take me from a 10" to a 12" sub. All opinions are needed. Thanks, Jack.
  24. Got a question on subs I bought a Boston acoustic 10" from Tweeter and wanted to trade up but they don't carry svs. The only 12" they have is the Boston Acoustic pv900 or the Velodine dls, any thoughts or opinions. Thanks, Jack.
  25. Sorry for the goof on the previous post. I have been happily talked into building a custom center by this forum. In a few years I will eventually have a set of Lascala's or Belle's and will be building the center for those speakers. Which tweeter and mid horns do I need to be looking for, Ebay has some used horns for sale one needs a diaphram they are out of the Lascala's, also what problems or cost could I run into from used horns. And which crossovers are the better ones, plastic or metal horns. I have a lot of questions but really what I need to know is what components to buy and where. The other questions can wait. Thanks, Jack.
