  1. Hey Glenn... thanks... a couple
    of reasons actually...

    1)
I love to look and feel of wood floors

    2)
    Matches my whole home

    3)
    Wood is more durable

    4)
Easier to maintain esp with the snow which may be dragged in

    5)
Resale value... buyers here prefer hardwood

    6)
I could easily do it myself ...

    7)
If someone REALLY wants carpet, they can put a runner...

So I figured why not... material wise (13 steps) the cost
isn't significantly more... especially compare to the home's value. Once the varnish ages a little, it'll be a
perfect match to the upstairs floors. Obviously
#1 had a lot to do with it.... so it may, or may not be everyones choice... ;)

  2. I suppose the replies should be taken in the context of
whether or not your preamp will be acting as an audio / video converter or just
    a switcher / volume adjustment.

Source units have different types of outputs... from variable volume analog to pure digital
data.... I suppose what signal you are
feeding it will determine it's importance in your audio chain?

  3. Thanks guys…. I'll try and get some updated "overall" pics up this weekend as most of the furniture is in now (chaise lounge arrived this past weekend... [:)]) I'm now looking at refinishing the main khorns, fireplace, and building a mobile furniture unit to house the rear effect Heresy's.

The feet?... well... they are actually part of a bigger contemporary art installation consisting of a dozen or so plaster casts of "feet in motion" that was produced by a good friend of mine. Unfortunately the whole work takes up too much space... and hence to two lonely feet. I find horizontal sculptures so much harder to place than vertically oriented ones...

    Quick eye...

  4. Like most/all digital amps it measures a little funny.

What causes this? How audible is it?

At lower levels the ultrasonic switching noise is obvious on the scope. Next time it is hooked up I'll take some pictures of that to show how that looks and what happens when you use averaging to show how it changes the SNR of the measurements.

Sounds like something interesting to compare... esp if we hook them up to high efficiency speakers....

  5. I suppose you would if you'd watch it sideways... but the sofa's have felt-sliders under their feet. Although.... when watching a film alone, I have left them in that position and kicked my feet up with a thick pillow between me and the armrest. Actually very comfy...

  6. Yeah... I have an old Rotel Dolby THX preamp that I've used and still got kicking around. The subcrossover is fixed at 80Hz and it simply has a gain control, as was popular back then. It doesn't have a phono stage and obviously requires a separate power amp.

Even though it originally cost thousands, I doubt I could even get a 1/10th it's initial value now. Because of it's video and surround obsolescence... that generation of equipment isn't in very high demand. So I figured rather than buying an additional 2ch amp and phono preamp..... I should be able to get a better quality mid-fi all-in-one unit in the same price range.

So I was kinda looking for some suggestions of what would sound good from the likes of B&K, McIntosh, Aragon, Parasound, Rotel, etc.... that would fall into that range used (as well as make some small talk... ;).
