  1. Thanks, Randy. It's come a long way since the breadboard look. Unfortunately, I keep this in a cabinet that's rarely used. It resides along side my Foreplay kit and Dynaco CDV1. It's my all tube, all DIY setup. The pre, amp, and speakers were all built by yours truly.
  2. Here's a pic of the top and back. I upgraded the speaker binding posts, power switch, and the RCA connectors.
  3. Here's a shot of the S-5 I built over a year ago. I built a case for it using things I found in my garage. I should've put a smaller power switch in the front, though. It's seen limited use. I just like the sound of my Scott amps (not to mention the power) over this, but for the money it's hard to beat!
  4. Lynn, I'm using one ch. of the ASL for the center output of an SACD player. This is just temporary until I get a Scott 99 from Craig. I'm using a 299A on the Khorns, a 299B on Heresy rears, and the ASL on the Heresy center. I've been really enjoying this setup for both music and movies so far!
  5. What's a cinema 10? IMO the RW12 is worth the extra $$ over the RW10. You might want to post in the Home Theater forum.
  6. I don't know about the others, but I use a Dynaco CDV-1. I really like the way mine sounds. My only beef is it should have vol. control on the remote. I've been told that with a universal remote it can be done, but I can't find any codes for a Dynaco!
  7. "50 Ohms would be just fine, the important thing is that you have a load on the output. Since the gain will be used for the other channel, any amplified pops, sizzles, spikes, noise, etc can damage the other channel if it doesn't have a load connected. These factors can occur at any time, and without the load, there is a possibility of damage resulting. -Ryan" OK let me get this right. I'm getting mixed signals here! Do I: A. not hook up a patch cord to the R ch and not use the R ch.? no harm done? or B. Use the RS resistors? Ryan, do I just connect the resistor between the - and + ?

So, you really don't need anything on the output tap. Leave the tubes in, connect one RCA to say, "A" channel input, connect one speaker to "A" channel output and you are done. As for oscillations - this is generally going to be an issue with PP amps that have a lot of NFB and you run a signal into them with no load at all on the OPT. With no signal, nothing much happens with any layout. mdeneen ---------------- Thanks Mark! That's what I wanted to hear!

To get more power and less distortion from the channel you will be using, connect a 60 Ohm 10W resistor to the channel that is not in use. The resistor will keep a steady load on the channel not in use, and won't need to dissipate full power. It is not advisable to pull the tubes not in use, as they load the power supply. If you remove the load, the PS voltage will increase and possibly damage the filter capacitors. -Ryan ---------------- Well I just got back from R.shack. All they had was a 50 ohm 10W $1.69 pr., will that work? Or should I just go downtown to Parts Express and get these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=019-020

I'll put them on my fancy Leok Capper Zapper for you. ---------------- Thanks, I'll take you up on that offer! That capper zapper is for breaking them in, right? And that's done before installing them?
  11. Yep both tweeters. I'll try cleaning the connections. Same caps that you suggeted to T?
  12. Dean, What would you suggest as far as an upgrade to type AA in a pair of LaScalas? I'm getting some crackling sounds coming out of the tweeters on some CDs (electronic music) that I don't get when played through my Khorns.
  13. Thanks Craig. Looks like I'm off to the "Shack". This is just to hold me over till you get that 99 done.
  14. I have an ASL AQ1003 and was wanting to run only one of the two channels. Is it safe to run only one ch. w/ just the R or the L RCA hooked up? Or should I pull the tubes out of the ch. not in use?
  15. "It was $40 shipped brand new wasn't it ?" It sure is! You can either buy it off ebay from Dynacosales or directly from the Dyanco website; same price.
  16. Maybe I should go this route instead of the SACD route. For $40 bucks shipped I'll definately try it out.
  17. TBrennen, I test drove a Mercury Marauder last year, fun car! I drive an '85 Astro van w/ a 350TPI shoehorned under the hood. I also own a '65 Buick Riviera that's been in the "shop" for over 5 years! I'm told it will be done by summer.
  18. Go down 2 posts to "KHORN Finishes". There's a pic of one in there.

I also remember a thread some time ago when people close to Klipsch said the supply had run out.If it is once again available, please clue me in. Thank You, The Troll ---------------- The grills in the pic are light brown not cane. I think the lighting just makes them look like cane. Mario, Tell the buyerl; new Black HeresyII gills are stil available from Klipsch for only $35 ea. shipped.
  20. That hum/buzz is what I hear through my LaScalas. That's kind of why I've lost interest in it. Here's one on A'gon that sold for $275. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?preatube&1083154112 This one has a bunch of upgrades though.
  21. Taylor, I built a Foreplay kit last year. I wasn't too impressed with the way it sounds. Sweet whispers upgrade would probably help, but I don't have an amp to run with it so it's not a top priority. I've seen them sell on ebay between $180-$249. It is a fun and easy kit to build, but it took them 4 weeks to ship it to me. Have fun and don't breathe in the solder fumes!
  22. Soo what... (insert head scratching smily here) I too wasn't floored with Kind of Blue. I'm very much a jazz newbie as well. After reading Allan's and others recs; I p/u Kind of Blue, Cool Struttin', Time Out, and Chet Baker Sings on lp. I also bought a few CDs: 2 Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis Essentials, and a Wes Montgomery. Dave Brubecks Time Out, to me is better. Maybe after I develop an ear for jazz, I'll give the Miles Davis another try. This coming from someone who is more into heavy ROCKIN', but I can appreciate Jazz music. For something that mixes both genres try something from Canderia. Some strange sh!t there.
  23. I wish it was the end of this thread! Gettin' tired of seeing Rosie's name on the top 2-Channel Audio.

Too busy to keep up with all their BS!
