  1. RLG Don't worry about the length, especially for the surrounds. I try to keep my lengths the same but the only difference it seems to make is to the company who gets to sell me more speaker cable! If you worried about cable length that closely, it would seem you would have to also worry about exact speaker placement and delays as even a small difference in distance would impact the arrival of sound to your ears and probably make the whole discussion irrelevant. Just enjoy! My only recommendation is to buy decent in-wall cable so that you only have to do this once. Not much that is less fun than running cables in walls and attics!
  2. I have a pair of the original style chorus speakers from 1987 that have traveled with me to a lot of different homes (Military and Corporate moves) and I can no longer find the original paperwork that came with them. I am most interested in just getting the frequency range (within 3db), the efficiency rating and the nominal impedance so that I can accurately decide on future amplification, setting crossovers to the subs for the 5.1 DVDs, etc. The speakers have worked extremely well through all of this and have always seemed to benefit from better electronics (which I usually bought for other speakers I just had to have!) Any advice on outboard amplification? I haven't seen huge changes when I have used seperate Carver amps (2 THX 400s). I get nice response running analog direct through a Sony 777ES that remains in my system because my wife knows how to use it. Any thoughts where I can find this information or any assistance would be appreciated. Thank You!
  3. Arthurs I run a Sony DVD 9000ES player with my Chorus Speakers using the analog output (both SACD and CD) and it sounds terrific. The unit has been discontinued and replaced by a newer model so you may be able to get a deal on one. I am as much a video (okay, maybe more) than audio and the Sony ES players have very good picture quality. I also am a fan of a player that has a lot of heft. I tried the new Pioneer at home on loan from a friend and it was fine, probably not much of an upgrade from where you are if any. Good Luck!
  4. Mike, Don't sell the Klipsch Horn sound short until you have lived with them for a while. I have a set of Chorus I speakers from 1986 and through the years they have left and revisited my main listening system many times. Most recently they again replaced a "high end sweet speaker", a pair of Nautilus 805's on May Audio Stands accompanied by a 10" Velodyne HGS sub. The problem always remains that no matter how I try (the B and W's were a gift from my wife!) it is hard once you have a speaker that elicits real emotion. If you sit in front of them for 15 minutes and you have no desire to get up and do something different, they may be for you. I can say that the biggest change I've heard through the years was to upgrade my components to good cables (all Audioquest Coral and Diamondbacks and GR8 speaker cables). This seemed to make a big difference from the Monsters and Tributaries cables I was using. The speakers seem "faster" now and it has a more revealing live sound. Good luck!
