  1. Get them. I pretty much posted this same question last week. Very easy to do and just looks better. I got my banana plugs from Blue Jeans Cable, only $3.50 a pair, I am very satisfied with them. To install, just Google, "how to install banana plugs", the first link is from Audioholics, called "preparing your own DIY speaker cables" click on that and it is very easy to understand.
  2. Seems there is a plastic cap molded on the end of the screw on thingy, and is flush with it. It does not seem it is easy to pull out. Is there anybody who has tried to do this? My Synergy KSB 2.1's had rubber caps that were easy to pull out to insert the banana plugs, not the case with these SB-3's. Any suggestion is appreciated.
  3. I have purchased a pair of Synergy SB-3 speakers, will banana plugs work on these, or spades?
  4. I have Yamaha HTR-5660 receiver along with a pair of Klipsch KSB 2.1 bookshelves, and an Adire Audio Rava sub. My center channel is a Klipsch SC-1. Should I set the center channel EQ settings up or keep them at "0"? I currently have it set at +2,+3,+4,+5,+6.(hope it helps). Thanks in advance.
  5. Does Klipsch make any towers with built in subwoofers? I know someone who says they have Klipsch towers with subs built in. I don't think so. I think he has imitation Klipsch speakers with built in subs. I would like to to set him straight because I don't think Klipsch makes them and how should I break the news to him? Thanks in advance.
  6. I have Klipsch bookshelves L/R and a klipsch center. I have an Adire Audio Rava sub. When watching DVD's or cable movies using Dolby Digital everything sounds great but when explosions happen and certain scenes like that happen, there is way too much bass output and I have to turn the volume down and after I have to turn the volume up again so it sounds great again. I am using a Y-cable attached to the sub cable. Should I not use the Y-cable? I have put the LFE output on the receiver to 10 then to 20 but still sound way to loud. The volume on the sub is at about 1/4. Should I not use the Y-cable and put the LFE setting to 0. The numbers on the LFE settings mean 0db to -20db right? I have a Yamaha HTR-5660. What should I try? thanks.
  7. I have read so many different ways to connect everything to a receiver and heard so many different opinions. My Philips 30" widescreen can accept all the video inputs I am needing. Shouldn't all the audio inputs go to the receiver and all the video inputs go to the TV? I have a Yamaha HTR-5660. Can somebody explain where to connect the cables? The Yamaha has 1 digital coax audio input which I plan to connect my digital cable box which only has analog and digital audio outputs. I want to connect my progressive scan DVD player directly to tv using component video cable and optical audio out from dvd player to receiver. I am so confused...please help. If it helps, here is what i am wanting to connect...Philips 30" HDTV ready widescreen 30PW850H, Toshiba DVD/VCR combo which has digital and optical audio outputs, component video output, Yamaha HTR-5660 receiver, digital cable box which just has standard red, white, yellow rca jacks and a digital audio output, and of course I am using all Klipsch speakers (3.1 setup) except for sub. I have all the cables needed(monster). I just need to know how to connect from the components.
  8. I have decided to go with a Yamaha receiver. Which one would you suggest. Budget is $400.00. I only plan to use a 3.1 setup for a while(Synergy KSB 2.1's for mains,Synergy SC-1 for center, and an Adire Audio Rava sub). All are brand new. I currently have a Pioneer VSX-D711 receiver. It sounds good($200.00). Would a "better" receiver make a whole lot of difference in sound quality?
  9. I am thinking of getting this receiver for $269.00 at Costco. Is this a good receiver? $300.00 limit.
  10. I currently have a Pioneer VSX-D711(5.1) receiver to go with a pair of Klipsch Synergy KSB-2.1's, and an Adire Audio Rava sub. I have a cheap KLH center channel. I will buy a Klipsch Synergy SC-1 center channel to match the KSB's due to your suggestions. It sounds just o.k. with the KLH. I am wanting to buy a Yamaha HTR-5640 receiver or an ONKYO TXSR501 (in my budget). Should I wait until I get the SC-1 center to see if the sound improves, or should I buy one of the other receivers when I purchase the center and hope for an overall improvement? I really think I should buy the Yamaha or ONKYO along with the SC-1 and get rid of the Pioneer which I can return to Costco for full price. Appreciate any suggestions in which I will trust as always. I plan on using the 3.1 setup for a long while. Also, I have a Philips 30" widescreen HDTV ready set. I would like to use it to it's potential using the receiver as well, if that helps. Also what kind of cables to use. Thanks in advance.
  11. I purchased the KSB 2.1's last year on ebay. They are absolutely in mint condition in original box along with original papers, for only $177.00 total. I got lucky I guess. I do not need any surrounds now, I intend on 3.1 setup for now. Do I really need to have a matching center channel? If not, whats the next available center? What about the SC-5, which I can get at Best Buy? Also if you could answer my second question, what about my receiver? I am really doubting the Pioneer that I have purchased at Costco. What suggestions do you have for me, willing to spend about $350.00 on a 5.1 receiver?
  12. What does timbre match mean?
  13. I recently purchased a pair of brand new KSB 2.1's along with an Adire Audio Rava subwoofer. What model of Klipsch center channel should I buy. I'm thinking of the RC-25. I currently am using a Pioneer VSX-D711 receiver, but thinking of returning it and getting the Onkyo TX-SR501. But really my question is what Klipsch center channel to buy to go along with my current speaker setup, and should I keep the pioneer receiver or go with another (any suggestions)? I plan to use the 3.1 setup for a while. Budget for receiver is about $300.00, and for center $200-250. My listening area is small-medium. I am just starting, not yet ready for 5.1,6.1,7.1,YET.
  14. Thanks all for the replies, the lead shot I can get with no problem, a friend of mine is a firearms instructor and can get mass quantiities of the stuff real cheap. What about steel shot? Is it heavier?
  15. I currently have a 2.1 system. I have purchased some heavy duty speaker stands(for bookshelves) that can be filled with sand or whatever. I want to fill these stands with buckshot which was suggested here on this forum. Where can I purchase this buckshot or lead to put inside my new speaker stands? Thanks in advance.
