  1. Craig,

Yes,it's on.I read the manual first.Well,second-I saw how you had it set-up first,& thanks for all the hints(settings, post screws,etc.).I may play with the tubes & bump it down a little, like you suggested, since 3-4 is plenty of volume.Telefunkens are in transit,I hope.I couldn't resist.

  2. My Khorns got a fresh breath of air yesterday.I've been enjoying an heirloom Bogen 230A that Craig rebuilt for me recently. It's a pretty clean integrated tube amp.BUT yesterday I carefully opened my 'new' Scott 299A package that Craig sent to me.Pulling-off the bubble wrap,I was surprised at how compact it was, then, how absolutely beautiful. You may have seen the pictures he posted here.Thanks,Craig.You were right-on in describing the appearance & performance. When I asked him what improvement I would hear over the Bogen,he wrote,"More detail".I think he could have used a few more adjectives, because this amp is all I had hoped it would be.Considerably more detail, more depth of soundstage, and importantly for Khorns,a much warmer sound than the Bogen's.The Bogen has a stronger bass presence, but the 299A's bass is more precise. As much as I prefer to run an amp flat,it does have enough control not to be lacking.I don't think this will be an issue for me,even while playing R&R.I put about six hours of listening time on it last night:Rock,Jazz,Classical, and some 'easy listening'.I had so much fun that I didn't even hook it up to the LaS-I just didn't think about it-The wire was three feet from the amp & I didn't A/B them.I look forward to it, though. Thanks,Craig!

  3. Since you are already familiar with Monster Cable, check out Monstercable.com.There are connection diagrams & tips for different setups.Ebay has excellent deals on MC,but you need to know exactly what the tpye of cable is-write down the MC description & list price for the specific length to compare while you search. If you see a better deal on another cable, check it out on the MC site to be sure it really is a better deal.It is very easy to mistake one wire for another. And the THX line is not even close to being their better wire,so don't be sold by the THX lable. It may be the best wire for your budget, but the THX designation doesn't mean it's better wire.Remember that you may need a lot of interconnects & cable for HT,so be realistic with your first purchases or you can run out of money fast.If you are in a hurry, you probably won't find your best deals,so plan ahead.

  4. Welcome to Klipschland. You'll be happy with them for a lot of years of good music. It looks like you have a great start on a killer system. There is a wealth of info on this forum from many top notch audiophiles, and even we novices will give opinions. We do share the joy of the music we hear through Klipsch speakers, and this forum is a source for incredible improvements in what we hear.Welcome to the Forum.

  5. Thanks for the info,guys.

I much more clearly understand by your experience what I had thought about (my presumptions).I won't have the luxury of A/B-ing a 300B & 2A3.If I go 2A3,& get the silver wire output transformer option,I'm in the Yote 2A3 price range,& it's already assembled.I'm sure I'd love the clarity of the 2A3,but when I think about all the rock I listen to,I lean toward the 300B with presumably more bass.

  6. Thanks,Radiohead.

I may be seeking the Grail,& just thinking that SET may be it.I listen to my good SS & think...yes,but.Then I listen to my decent push pull & think...yes,but.I read about the clarity of SETs,& but for the loss of much appreciated bass,think...maybe.If I go SET,I'll have another option to taste.

I thought each of the 3 options of tube types might exhibit a different musicality, besides differences in output.I have no experience with any of them.I listen to a variety of music daily,if that is a question.

  7. What are your opinions about:

    Welborne labs new DRD amps?

SS or tube rectification in them?

Advantages/Disadvantages of 300B,2A3,or 45 tube models for use with Khorns?

    Upgrades for the Ultimate kit?

Level of expertise necessary to complete a pair?

    DeanG,

I just paid eight bucks for the manual myself.Since I am paying for the copies & taking the time to do it,I thought a SASE was fair.

  9. Tom,

Send it to Craig. He does good work & he's reasonable. The main difference I see between the 230 & 230A is a couple of tubes.I have manuals for both units.I'll send you a copy if you'll mail me a stamped, addressed, legal size envelope.

It is a very pleasing integrated amp. With 30 watts/side,it has sufficient power for Klipsch's.I'm just starting to understand it's strengths & weaknesses, and it is far better sounding to me at low volume with Khorns.Surprising clarity & detail.

  10. I got my Bogen 230A back from Craig yesterday.Thanks,Craig.It sings just fine.I hooked-up to the Khorns & had a few hours of fun.At first,I thought it sounded a little thin, but by the time I got to the third track of Sounds of Wood & Steel 2,I warmed-up to it.Figuring out its' sweetest spots will take some listening & tweaking.(Yes,Craig,I'm adjusting the bias first thing when I get home today.) 1.gif
