  1. Sounds like you need to call Klipsch Customer Support. The number is in my signature. I have had my Pros up to 112db at my seated position. That is loud enough to cause hearing damage after awhile. c>------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  2. To say there is no difference between cable a and cable b all it does is carry the signal, is about the same as saying that there is no difference between a Yugo and a Cadillac they both get you to your destination. I have done several blind tests with all sorts of audio equipment and have heard differences. However not enough of a difference to warrent spending ungodly amounts of money. This is where the price/preformance break comes into play. Spend enough to get the difference but dont go overboard trying to get that last 1%. c>------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>

  6. Wow, you are going to town there. I am not slacking, just a slow system at work and have not had time to get it going on the other systems. (Look at the CPU Hours/Unit you are doing {1} and what I am {8}. Just goes to show how fast the new Athlons are. )c> ------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  7. The metal of the wire is only PART of the whole picture. Signal traveling on cable is influenced by two major factors, internal and external. Major fundamental internal factors are those of electrostatic/electromagnetic field interplay and electron migration. Major external factors are: RF noise from broadcast transmitters, wireless phones, lighting, computers, etc. Acoustic influences such as those from loudspeakers, and static influences from decorative cable jackets and flooring material such as carpets must all be addressed in order to decrease noise and increase the power transfer characteristics of the cable. c>------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  8. rol1: Mp3s are not cd quality. There are lossless compression standards. If you need to save space use mp3. If you want cd quality use lossless. http://www.monkeysaudio.com/ It really does work. Take a look. Yes, monkey audio is the best one I have used so far. But my entire collection of CDs would require 150GB of drive space. That is alot of hard drive! So now I will try CatKnight's suggestion of CDex and LAME. I hope I can get to it this weekend. c> ------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>

  10. Thanks for the info, Ray.But now I am really confused. Last night I ripped some stuff at 128 be accident. I took a listen just to see how bad it was. It sounded better than the stuff I was doing at 160 or 320! I compared it with the original .wav file and it sounded identical. I ripped a few more at 128 and they too sounded better. I have used both Music Match 6 and Real Player Juke box to do the ripping. both give me the same results. c>
  11. Wow, this is quite a debate we have going here! I am still working my way through all the ripping programs and players. but I am still finding the .mp3 tracks lacking. Dont get me wrong, they do sound good. If I didnt have the original to compare them to I would be fine. Guess I do have a 'platinum ear'. rol1, what you call ambiophonics is what I call psychoacoustics. It is sound that we can not really hear, but we 'feel'. This has been debated ever since the CD first came out. Ray Garrison should be along anytime now to shed his wisdom. c>------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  12. rol1 kows what he is talking about. If you want 98 and 2k on duel boot make sure they are on seperate partitions. Install 98 first on its own partition, then 2000 on its own. You will find yourself using 98 less and less.c> ------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>

  15. Well, my jury is in with results. 320 kbps still isnt good enough. It still sounds kind of muddy to me. It is like there is still some kind of veil in the way. rol1, I have tried Monkey's Audio. Works great. I get the .wav files down to about 60%. Now all I need are some really big F-ing hard drives. The Rocker, Thanks for the info on r3mix.net Lots of good stuff there. (BTW I am in my mid 30s, not 40s...yet. I guess that is still old to most of the mp3 crowd. )c> ------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  16. There are 2 weak links in the Pros. One being the lame zip cord used for wire. As most of you know I replaced mine with Kimber Kable PR4. Pins on the Sub end and Spades on the Speaker end. The second weak link is the speaker connectors. The spring connectors on the sub are bad enough, but the 1/8" plugs on the speakers just plain out suck. I replaced mine with binding posts. (Radio Hack part # 274-662A) I also replaced the interior wiring with the same Kimber. This move my Pros from an 8 to an 11. While they are not the best speakers I have ever heard, they are the BEST speakers I have heard for under $500. c> ------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  17. Thanks for all the info, guys. Looks like I will get Music Match since I have used it before. I used the free version to rip some discs at 160 bit and it was like some of the music just wasnt there. What I want to do is rip all my CDs to MP3. This isnt going to be easy with over 500 of them, but I am getting too lazy in my old age to get up and get the actual CD when I want tunes. c>------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>

  24. OOpps! Almost forgot to answer the original question. How do speakers work? Speakers convert electrical energy into sound waves. The electrical energy comes from an amplifier. An amlifier is required to boost the signal from its current source because the orignal current is too weak to render audible sound. Amplifiers use transistors to take a weak signal with a certain frequency and amplitude and puts out a signal with the same frequency but with a larger amplitude, making it a stronger signal. The electrical current generated from the amplifier travels through wires to the terminal strip. The current then travels through the flex wire to the voice coil. The current flowing through the voice coil turns it into an electromagnet. The magnetic field created by the voice coil attracts to one pole of the magnet, and repels from the other, depending on the positive or negative waves from the amplifier. We all know that unlike magnetic fields attract and like magnetic fields repel. If the wave is positive, unlike magnetic fields form between the voice coil and the magnet, causing the cone to move outward and vice versa. As the voice coil and the magnet structure repel each other, a force is exerted from the magnet structure to the voice coil. Since the voice coil is connected to the cone, they both move forward as a single unit. The cone acts like a piston, compressing and evacuating the air immediately around it, thus producing sound. c>------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
  25. justin_tx_16 : why is the the sky blue? Why do I always get the hard questions? In answer to your question, the blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air. However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue. As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white. Seeing that I am a nice guy tonight, I'll even answer the unasked bonus question. WHY IS THE SUNSET RED? As the sun begins to set, the light must travel farther through the atmosphere before it gets to you. More of the light is reflected and scattered. As less reaches you directly, the sun appears less bright. The color of the sun itself appears to change, first to orange and then to red. This is because even more of the short wavelength blues and greens are now scattered. Only the longer wavelengths are left in the direct beam that reaches your eyes. The sky around the setting sun may take on many colors. The most spectacular shows occur when the air contains many small particles of dust or water. These particles reflect light in all directions. Then, as some of the light heads towards you, different amounts of the shorter wavelength colors are scattered out. You see the longer wavelengths, and the sky appears red, pink or orange. c>.... and how do gardens grow? Sorry almost forgot that one. The answer is s#*t!c> ------------------ Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System Support hofmonstr@rocketmail.com c> I am NOT ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com 888-554-5665c>
