I am also looking forward to seeing some samples....

I also had a pair with the slant risers...My brother-in-law has them now. I do remember them sounding the best of all of the ones I have had.

I agree with most above... I normally listen right about 95-100db, depending on what I am listening to.
A few years ago I purchased a pair of industrial La Scala's for my school. While they were at home, I hooked them up to my Adcom 250wpc amp & set the SPL meter on the sofa where I normally sit (about 10 ft away). I was able to get 126 on a few peaks. I had ear plugs in & was still unable to stay long enough to get a good pic of the meter.

I also saw that show, watching for the horns.

I ran in the the same problem with my Sony/Onkyo combo. Finally found out that the video output had somehow reset itself to a lower resolution, & the system cant send hi-res audio with that lower res video signal.

I'm with Josh.... I have a sonic impact amp in my garage hooked to a pair of Klipsch KSB-1.1 & an Ipod. Often, people just walking by will stop in & ask what it is.

I am already doing this...Mostly during the summer for Camping.
I
have a 1000 watt power inverter in the back of my truck hooked up to 2
big deep-cycle batteries. We use this to power lights, TV, DVD, stereo, satellite dish, etc. A few times for outdoor partys
etc, I have hooked up a CD player & amp with a pair of old
Heresys & it works perfectly. Also, during a power outtage, I just run an extension cord out to the truck, & power whatever I need.Things to keep in mind..... I am using a cheap inverter that seems
to be clean enough, but you will want to find one that has a pure
sinewave output. They are a bit more money, but for your purpose it
will be worth it. Do a google search for "power inverter pure sinewave" & you will find a few options.

I have a GFA-585 that had the same problem. I was able to replacme them myself with some help from on online repair page that had pics etc, but I cant find it now. Just do a google search & you will find many repair instructions.

It is tilted... but the nameplate is glued on, so rotating was out.
-
I also like the 3 bell pic above... but my solution was a split La Scala pro, with the mid-hi section above the screen.

It is about that time again.....

Anyway, my point is that very high powered SS can power these properly, as long as it is good gear. And my complaints are not the result of the high powered amps, it is the speakers (no offense, but it is commonly discussed here that the tweeters and midrange have a lot of room for improvement).
A few years back, some of us here in Nor cal gathered & compared amps. I brought my Adcom 585 & put it up against different tube amps. If you want to read about our shootout, read HERE

I say go big or go home....
I recently went from a vert Cornwall to a split La Scala Pro. The TV sits on the bass bin behind the screen

We had Community Solutions speakers in my school's theater & we ripped them out for Klipsch over in this thread.
Since they were too expensive to toss out, we now have them in the cafe for basic voice use, but had to stop using them because no one could understand what was being said.

I have a 19 year old cat that my girls left behind when they moved out. You can imagine the problems I am having....
The vinegar trick did not work at all for me. This is what finally did the trick:

In a different scene, as Al walks by, the grill cover looks like a wrap-around style. I will try to get another screenshot when I get home.

I had a DCD-1700 for about 5 years until it started to sound very flat. Upgraded to an Adcom which I still have.
I also remember the very fast response times.

I have had mine up like this for many years, & they have never come down. The box is 4' tall. If I had to do it over again, I would only go 3' high.
Need cutout pattern or photo of grille backer board for Cornwall

I have a pair of the decorator corns that have a single cutout for the mid & tweeter. All of my others have a seperate cutout. I can take pics tonight if you want.
