Under $200.00 for an HDMI pre/pro will be a tough find but I guess possible.  Look for an Integra DHC-80.3 but probably not for near $200.00.

I have a 10 year old NAD T175HD pre/pro that I have been more than pleased with.  They pop up occasionally on the used market.  I think it is HDMI 1.3a.

    Bill

So, please forgive my ignorance on the subject of 4K HDMI. Assuming it is out of the question to score one of these in the $200 range.

I have found some with a 1.something HDMI rating. If I plugged my Apple 4K Tv into that type of HDMI, what happens? Does it not work or is the quality just lowered to HD? Secondly, my Blue Ray player has an audio and a separate video HDMI out put. If I ran the HDMI audio out into one of these older HDMI inputs, would that still work fine? Currently I am using the digital coaxial output on this unit in lieu of not having an HDMI input.

  2. I have an old Rotel processor that predates HDMI. Recently I have begun considering purchasing something used and inexpensive with HDMI. (Under $200)

What version of HDMI should I be on the lookout for?

    Any suggestions on a processor?

My primary concerns are 3 HDMI in, 5.1/7.1 (no atmos) and I don't need a built-in amp.

  3. This week I received my MiniDSP and UMIK-1 and have been in the process of tweeking my subs for my room. My room is a challenge since it is an open floor plan with a lot of hard surfaces. Adding to the joy is a wife who is resistant to overly large subs and room dampeners but the systems sound good and the subs are much better now that I am learning to dial them in.

So, the next step/question has to do with my speakers. I enjoy some good 2 channel music as much as anyone, and I realize I could add another MiniDSP for the mains, but then my center won't be the same match that it is. And I watch a lot of movies and tv in 5 channels. So, has anyone gone with anything like the MiniDSP 10x10HD for their Home Theater? Is this advisable? Is this taboo?

What I am hoping to gain is a much flatter response for the room and better overall music and theater sound system and I believe in maximizing what you have before upgrading equipment.

This is the link for the 10x10HD: https://www.minidsp.com/products/minidsp-in-a-box/minidsp-10x10-hd?fbclid=IwAR2juLasR6i8yvcQ2ZcaYp5O-691LOTwq4hJx7_1SEafgS40ahzSDR21Gxw

Is there a better alternative? Any thoughts?

  5. Now this is a topic I can sink my teeth into. I spend more time reading and writing than perhaps anything else. I am a nerd by choice and oddly strange by confession. Most of what I do and read resonates with few others and a lot of my humor and opinions are very different from my peers. With that said, I am currently nearing the end of :

  6. Longmire on Netflix is a great series. 6 Seasons. We have also enjoyed Heartland on Prime, though some may find it a bit cheesy or soap operaish. Lost in Space on Netflix, 2 seasons so far & Ripper Street on Netflix.

Haven't watched yet, but Lock & Key seems intriguing.

Interesting Documentary: Marijuana X takes a look at the legalization of Marijuana's impact on Colorado and its people. This is on YouTube.

  7. My surrounds are the CDT-5800's mounted in the ceiling which I know it's not the ideal placement for a surround. The question is, I am considering another pair of speakers for my back wall making it a 7.2 system but it is a traditional studded wall and most ceiling speakers are a bit deep for that. The traditional Klipsch in-wall speakers are larger than I want to go. Has anyone used the round slim in-ceiling speakers? SLM-3400 is what I am considering? Any thoughts on these?

  8. Fastest car, most horsepower of anything I have ever driven. Listed for $127K. Drove from the showroom to the shoot and nearly had to change my undies.

I don't know but The Blacklist is one of my favorite shows.  That being said, any other fans of the show disappointed in the episodes that have aired recently?  What's up with Red?  He's gone soft.  All this laughing and nice guy stuff.  I started the series over on Netflix and am a ways in to season 2.  The old Red was dark and ruthless.  I wonder why the writers have softened him up so much?

He has gotten in touch with his softer side. I think the threat of losing Denbay was the straw that broke the ruthlessness we saw earlier in the series. Things seemed to mount up with the birth of the daughter of agent Keen and the betrayal and ultimately the murder of Mr. Kaplain, but I am only speculating. He clearly has a huge soft spot for the Russian lady whose name escapes me, but that and the torture of his long time friend, the loss of Keen's grandfather... the writers seem to be implying that it is all taking its toll.

  10. Not sure if anyone watches the TV show Blacklist, but Season 7 Episode 13 titled Newton Percell deals with the deadly effects of sound. Anyway, no idea if the premise has any validity and am too lazy to research, but not too lazy to share this with you. Watch it, it's interesting what Mr. Percell does with his victims and why.

  11. This is the B&K Sounds CSC-1 from raw birch to finished product. I happen to have a former employee of Thomasville Furniture who did veneer for them attend the church I serve at who did the veneer work. I think he said it was tiger maple veneer. Turned out pretty sweet I think. IMG_3931a.jpg.68bc61872f006ee0c1a929f49eeec691.jpg
