Hello:
Have 2 pair of LaScaLas. One Pair for sale, one pair I'm keeping.
Can anyone tell me what crossover I have on the pair I'm keeping?
Vintage: mid '70'
serial 2H995, 2H996.
Also is there a way of actually dating them? How can one do that?

Well, I have both the Heritage line and some of the "new"line."
What I can say is that there are products made for "the dicounters" that have different model numbers - even Michelin has a tire with a name & number available only to BJ's Wholesale Club. When you need warranty service, the product has to be returned to the "discouter" from where it was purchased.
As for the "Heritage" line, as a token dealers could display a set of Heresy's that would not be that much space lost.
At 50, I am a 2 channel dinosaur. My parents were musicians, I worked live and studio sound for many, many years. I have seen 4 channel and you name the HT format come and go, as well as vinyl, now changing cds and am getting disgusted in the way that computers and music systems are changing so often. Even the brochures hardly mention 2 channel audio or realism to instruments anywhere as near as in the past. Emphasis is on the house shattering bass. As a Recording Engineer and bass player, my goal is not to vibrate your shirts at 60 paces.
As far as BB "professionals" are concerned, I have gone in and asked questions only to be told to "wait a minute" while I look that up.
I understand the bottom line has to be profit but at what cost.
I can see people listening to the Reference Line, then thinking with their wallets and walking out. Society has changed and consumers keep quiet or are ignored. We've had Sun, Lechmere and a host of local Electronics dealers close because we have become a throw away Society. ( Except for our tube gear.) No offense to SS owners.

Mine is Jackson Browne's "Doctor my Eyes." Near the end there is a high point where the bass, drums and guitar kick in. As the song fades if you can distinguish the drums, bass, JB's voice without blur like you can on a Klipsch, you've got a great speaker!

Well, I've had no luck at my old price so I am lowering it again to $700.00 plus shipping or pickup for my pair of LaScalas.
Mid '70's vintage, oil filled caps, black grill across Mid & Tweeter. Bass horn section black. Have wood molding that could be trimmed to fit. As you look at them, entire front is flat black. Only offer has been for $475.00 Unfortnately, no pics.
Lacquered Birch outside. Only home used, no abuse. The price is for the pair. Have to go by weekend. Western NY

I have received a number of emails explaining (with no put downs or cheap shots) what the crossover is. In fact, one mentioned that his Klipscxh
speakers are vintage mid '70 as are the pair I'm keeping.

Okay, I'm probably stupid. Can someone tell me what "ALK's" are?
The only real modifying I've done have been to my Heresy's - dampening the horns and increasing the structure of the cabinet.
P.S. As of 14:27 on 4/2/03 Only 1 light bite on the LaScalas - never used outside of the home with MC60's driving. No clipping or distorting. Any replies mention Klipsch. I get too much SPAM. Thanks.

One pair I have are Birch veneer. The other pair are also with with the small grill and the bass horn section is black. The outsides are are natural Birch

As I am new to this board's postings I was hopin to get a reply or two regarding LaScala's coming with grill cloth covering the entire fron fronts of the the speaker. They were made in the mid '70s and the cloth covers top to bottom with molding nailed on the outside. can anyone help?
I own several pairs of Klipsch Speakers, but have only become aware of this forum when speaking with someone from Klipsch.. Thanks.

I have 2 pair of LaScalas. Both date back to the mid '70s.
The first pair I ordered came with the black # 17 Grille cloth from the very top to the very bottom of the 2 speakers. I have been told that only a few pair were made like this, most have only the mid and the tweeter covered. Anyone else shed some light on this?
I did not order anything special. They are raw birch. If it helps I'm in western NY.

I am a 50 year old audiophile and file.
I own a pair of heresy's, 2 pair of LaScala's (one pair for sale), a pair of Cornwallwall II's. I was 23 when I bought my fist pair. In all instances, the Klipsch sounded better with my McIntosh tube equipment.
I also own a pair of Chorus II's, NIB, and am getting a set of RF7's.
The only speakeaker that IMHO came close was a power hungry beauty Gale in the mid -'70s. I've listened to Pradigm, PSB, POLK, Legacy, etc. and while they sound nice for a while, sustained listening shows weaknesses to me and my hearing curve. So as a newbie to the board I feel the Jubilees as designed by Mr. Klipsch should be added.

I a a newbie to the board. I'm torn between purchasing a set of RF7's OR a set of RB5's.
I'm a 2 channel stereo dinosaur, but love to hear a good guita rock with a Hammond B-3 bringing up the rest.
Any advice from someone that ha either had both side by side or has sold one for the other?

I am a newbie to the board also. After years of trial and error, I have found that it all depends on your own hearing curve. Tubes to me are great, to others, dead. The main thing is that you bought Klipsch!

Well it seems that I can answer the question of whether the "Heritage" line of LaScalas vs the new are at all preferred. The new takes it (with apologies to superfreak whose email to me wound up in my bulk file.)
In attempting to sell a set of LaScalas, vintage '70s, Birch outside, black inside with grilles for mid and tweeter, I received 2 replies. I have WebTV and no digital camera so I cannot post a pictiure. Home use only powered by McIntosh tube - no clipping or distortion. Cabinets in exc shape, Rochester, NY. So I will be trading them in to get RF7s. We had an ice storm and I got a week reprieve.
Any negs on the RF7s?

Well I have received a few emails supporting the Heritage LaScala.
I appreciate the input. In truth I would like to sell one set of LaScalas
change to the better x-over and possibly get the RF7s. My dream world. If anyone is interested in one set and can give me info on shipping, so that I could be realistic (one place quoted $500.00, since I don't have the boxes. I'm a realist and don't want to take someone to the cleaners. I want them to have a good home. To note, all email support the heritage LaScalas.

4/8 If anyone can give me a better way to ship (lower cost), I'm open. Or better yet, pickup would be great. I was quoted $480 (seems too much to me too, but I haven't come up with an alternative.) They still are available and I'm open to suggestions that will not damage them. They're like children going off to college so their brothers can improve (x-overs).
