  1. I am setting up a two channel system with a pair of KLF 30's that I just got hooked to a Dynaco St 70 Amp. I was wondering what preamp to use. I have narrowed it down either to a Scott 130 or an Eico HF 85(with the possibility of a Dynaco PAS 3) Can anyone help with which of the two(or three if you prefer the Dynaco PAS 3)I should use? Thanks in advance for any input. Best Mike
  2. I am visiting my Mother-In-law in Fort Myers and at the Sound Advice here there are a pair of RF-7's that someone had for only a few months and traded them in for some supposed "high end" speakers. They want $700.00 each, but I am sure you could get them down. I passed since I just scored a beutiful pair of KLf 30's down here and I habve to rent a trailer to get them back to Arizona. Oh the things we do. Let me know how you make out. Best of Luck Mike
  3. Hello: This is a little off subject, but could anyone tell me what I should be paying for a working, unmodified, LT 110? And also, was there a case or cover made for this unit? All the ones that I have seen, have no cover? Thanks Mike
  4. What is the story here, with the LPS? I must have missed the beginning of the story. Was it in another thread? It does not appear here. Anyhow, I am interested as the owner of about 4500 LPS, I always like a good story. Mike
  5. DRWHO: Thanks for the explanation. It makes more sense now. You of course meant drawing the line from the listening position to the Wall, right? My back wall is 12 feet long. Your idea sounds great. I will be doing all this after the new year so I will report on the results to all. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!! Mike
  6. The only reply so far, I do not understand: This is what was written: "the side surrounds need to be high up and about 1 foot behind being directly behind" What does "1 foot behind being directly behind mean"? Anyone else with any suggestions will be more than welcome. Thanks In advance Mike
  7. Actually, the Denon 3803 allows for 9 speakers plus a sub to be hooked up. There are two sets of surrounds, which I do not think function at the same time, since there are only 7 amps in the unit. My thoughts were for the RS-7's to work as the first set of surrounds and use them for movies, and the Forte II's as the second set of surrounds, for multi channel music. So anyhow at any given time there will be 7 speakers going: 2 Fronts Center Either surrounds 1 or 2 2 Rear Centers So there will be three front speakers plus the Sub and 4 Rear Speakers at any given time. Kinda even?!? 4 and 4. Sound right. I know I am insane, but it sure will be fun!! Thanks Mike
  8. Ranger: I am in the process of building an HT setup. I am going to get the Denon 3803 amp after the first of the year and it will hook up to the following speakers that I have been collecting over the last 9 months. Fronts-Forte II Front Center-Academy Sub-RSW 15 Side Surrounds-RS-7 Rear Corner Surrounds-Forte II Rear Center Surrounds-2 Academys My room is 12 feet wide and 18 feet deep. Right now with just the Front Forte's and the Sub, powered by an 80 watt amp, it is so loud that it rattles windows 2 floors away. I can hardly wait to flip the switch on the 3803 and light up half the town! I am sure hoping that the whole system will sound great.I certainly will report to the Forum once everything is set. Good Luck. I think you can build a great souding system with these speakers. Mike
  9. Hello All: I am in the process of building an HT setup. I have the two back Forte II's in the corners, and was going to mount the Two Rear Academys about in the center of the rear wall, about 3 feet apart. Does thatb sound right? Also, where do I mount the RS-7's? I was thing about 6 feet from the back wall. That would put them about 2/3 of the way from the front. Any suggestions would be more than apprecitaed. Thanks to everyone who has kind enough to help me so far, and Happy Holidays to All! Mike
  10. Hello: Congratulations on the Academy! For what it is worth, I am in the process of building an HT setup, which will be similar to yours. I am going to get the Denon 3803 amp after the first of the year and it will hook up to the following that I have been collecting over the last 9 months. Fronts- Forte II Center Academy Sub-RSW 15 Side Surrounds-RS-7 Back Surrounds-Forte II Rear Center Surrounds-2 Academys I am not sure where to mount the RS 7's though, and am going to pose the question to the Forum. My room is 12 feet wide and 18 feet deep. I do not know what the final outcome will sound like, but I know that just with the Two Forte II's and the Sub, with my 80 watt stereo amp, I rattle the windows two floors up. I think there will be a lot of sound sound in my room. Best of Luck Mike
  11. WOW! Thanks! You all have sure given me enough to chew over for the holiday. I will check all of these out and try to hone in on one. Guess the general consensus is to stay away from the Dynaco PAS! Now if I can only solve my tube mystery I will be golden. Thanks Aagain for all the info, and Happy Holiday! Best, Mike
  12. Guy: I do not see any 2 line production code, etched on the glass envelope near the base of the tube. The only writing at all on the Tube is "RCA" and "FH." right below it. Sorry that I can not add any more info. Thanks all for the recomends on the pre-amp.What do any of you think of the CARVER C-16 SONIC HOLOGRAPHY PREAMPLIFIER? Thanks Mike
  13. Attached is a picture of the Tube that I mention in my first post. I hope someone can heplp me out here wuith both the tube and a recomendation for a Pre-Amp. For details, see my first post on the top of this page. Thanks Again for any possible help. Mike Thanks
  14. Gary: My budget for the pre-amp is around $2-300.00. I will try to take a pic of the RCA tube, and upload it. Thanks Mike
  15. Hello All: I need a recomendation for a pre-amp for a Dynaco ST-70 that I just purchased. Should I go with a Dynaco like a PAS or look at another manufacturer? The ST-70 seems to be of original vintage and not modified. It has a PA060 Transformer with cloth leads and A470 's. The other question I have is on the rectifier tube. The one in this unit says "RCA FH" on it. I can not find reference to this tube anywhere, and even though the amp sounds fine, I wonder if I should replace it with a real GZ34? If I do replace the rectifier tube do I have to reset the bias? Thanks for any help. Mike
  16. This seller on eBay has what appears to be a load of damaged Klipsch Speakers, but among them appears to be a KLF-30 in good condition. Just a lead, maybe give it a look see. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2566806906&category=23794 Best of luck with your search, Mike
  17. Some of the DVD's that I have: Terminator 2 Extreme Version Lawrence Of Arabia The Matrix Restored Silent Metroplois Anime Metroplolis Spirited Away Who Framed Roger Rabbit Daredevil Spiderman X-Men I will probably try the KLSF C-7. DOes anyone think it is worth having two back surrounds. My front and back walls are about 12 feet long, and my sides are 18 feet. Thanks Mike
  18. That was part of my thinking as well. That was why I thought to use the KLF-C7 that I already have. What do you think of that? Thanks Mike
  19. Hi ALl: First off, let me thank all of you Forum members who have helped me in these past months as I was assembling my HT/Multi-Channelmusic system. I am forever in your debt for taking the time to answer my many questions. That said, I now have yet another question. I an getting a Denon 3803 to power my system and already have the following speakers for it. Front-Black Forte II's Center-Black Academy Side Surrounds(A)For Movies-Black RS-7's Back Surrounds-(-For Multi-Channel Music-Black Forte II's Subwoofer-Black RSW-15 My question is this. The Denon has the capacity to have two center channel back (or whatever anyone wants to call them) speakers. This is I, guess for the 7 in the 7.1 system. I would like to know what anyone would suggest I use for these. They would have to be wall mounted, so I could not use full size speakers, but would like to get as much response as I can from them. I was thinking about using two KLF-C-7's since I alfready have one, but I am not sure that would not be a better suited speaker out there. Again, thanks for all the help and I hope you have some suggestions out there. Mike
  20. Leo: I have 4 Forte II's which I love, but I have never figured out how they can have lower bass response with a 12" woofer than the Chorus II with a 15" woofer. Is not bigger, bassier? I have never had a chance to hear the Chorus II's. What are the differences and do the Forte II truly sound bassier? I know they are rated lower, and that is why I can not figure it out. I would like to know if I am missing out on something better than the Forte II's, though I always prefer more bass than anything else, so if the Forte II's are really lower than I will be content and will stop having Chorus envy! Thanks Mike
  21. What does anyone make of this hybrid center speaker featuring Klipsch 10" Woofers, and a wooden horn, on sale now at eBay? First one I have ever seen! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3035539367&category=14992 Mike
  22. I have had a Dual 1219 Turtable for 35 years and love it. Won't give it up for the world.I even picked up a 1210 a couple of years ago as a backup, but have never had to use it. The model you are talking about is a much, much later one and I do not know if Dual kept their quality up. When I got mine, it was one of the best Turtables you cpuld buy and The way it has continued on in top form, has proven the accolades to be correct. If the newer models are eveen half the quality of the old ones, I think you will be very sartisfied with it. Hope that helps. Best, Mike
  23. if you are still looking here is apair that just showed up on eBay, in Irvine California. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3034642569&category=14992 Mike
  24. I have had a Shure V15 since 1967 and have consistenlty tracked at 1/2 to 3/4 grams. You have to tiptoe around it, but none of my records have any noticeable wear and I have only replaced the stylus a couple of timres in 35 or so years. Mike
  25. kjohnsonhp: I am looking for a Denon 3803. Could you tell me where your neighbor purchased his on line? Thanks Mike
