Need some surround speakers to complete a 5.1 setup

Hello,

I currently have RF-3 II's for my front left/right, RC-35 for my center, and KSW-12 for my sub...I never bought the rear speakers.

My question is, would it be better for me to match my older speakers with the older rears such as the RCR-5's?

Or go with a newer CDT model? Budget is kind of a issue, so paying $379 for the RCR-5's pair vs. $300+ each speaker for a CDT might matter, but it depends on what you all think of my setup. The rear speakers will be installed in the ceiling right above both seating choices.

Are the RCR-5's adjustable where you can point them, like the CDT's are?

If getting the older, originally matching speakers such as the RCR-5's isn't that big a sound difference than the CDT's, for surround sound, I can for sure purchase those pair up right away, if the newer ones are going to give me that much MORE, then I'll have to save.

I'm kind of comparing this issue to getting a car and putting two different tires on it vs. having all 4 being the same?

Do you need to get in ceiling speakers?

If you did get some, I think you'd be just fine with the lesser expensive speakers

Ideally the surround speakers in a 5.1 configuration would be placed beside your listening position either on the walls or on stands. Would in-wall speakers on the side walls be an option?

Mark,

No, not an option, one wall is an "outside" wall, and the other side there is no wall, its opened up to the hallway.

The reason I want in ceiling is mostly looks, to keep them hidden, etc...I'm just wanting to know if the RCR-5's (older) would be just as good or better than if I spend double the money and got a newer CDT model? I don't know much on the RCR-5's...but for $379/pair, thats budgetable...more so than $300+ a speaker!

Here's a link to all the specs on the RCR

http://www.klipsch.com/products/discontinued/details/rcr-5.aspx

There are several CDT models available

http://www.klipsch.com/search/default.aspx?search=cdt

Here's a paragraph about the CDT construction:

"Thanks to a new patent-pending gimbal
mechanism, known as Controlled Dispersion Technology™ (CDT), both the
high and low frequencies of the CDT-5800-C can be directed towards the
listening area. Because the tweeter is independently adjustable from
the woofer, this speaker offers even more precise localization."

It doesn't look like the RCR series are adjustable for direction.

Chris,

Welcome.

From my view point the first listing is a Pair with the Seller rating at 100%

the second listing is for a single speaker (you were correct).

Bill,

Thanks for the info, that first listing says it comes with FULL WARRANTY...is that the Klipsch warranty?

Guess I need to ask the seller.

Also since I'm paying with PayPal, I'm covered by them...

How can I pass up a deal where I get one speaker for basically FREE?
