Promedia 5.1 Ultra subwoofer output to front speakers

I got a new motherboard and I am using the realtek onboard HD audio (Foxconn Destroyer motherboard). I get the subwoofer output to the two front speakers when I click on the subwoofer channel in the config panel. I also do not get much bass from the subwoofer (if at all) when I play music or use the audio.

The system seemed to work fine on my older motherboard when I was using a creative audigy 2 ZS card. I would click on the subwoofer channel in the config and I would get output to the subwoofer. I also got a ton of bass to the subwoofer when I listened to music.

I tried another set of 5.1 speakers I have here with the new motherboard and it works correctly with those speakers (and my mom has the same motherboard and her logitech G51 speakers work correctly). Any idea why my sub is not working with the realtek onboard sound? I have the latest drivers for the onboard sound (tried a couple different versions). I also have an upgraded amp from elliot-tronics. Like I said, it worked fine with the creative card, just not the realtek onboard sound.
Thanks,
Rick

maybe the ports on the motherboard are reversed? Have you tried the center channel? The sub and center share the same. If your saying the sub is coming out the front speakers, sounds like a cable swap issue.... well maybe they ports on the motherboard actually. I know some let you re-assign.

Hi,

I was not as clear as I should have been. I have checked, rechecked, and checked again to make sure I have the cables plugged into the right jacks on the motherboard. I have also checked numerous times to make sure that the jacks are all assigned as they are supposed to be and they are. I get the correct output through every channel (including the center) except for the subwoofer channel. I get LF and RF correctly but the subwoofer outputs to both the LF and RF.

Also, I have tried to reassign the jacks to see if that would help and it does not, the problem follows to all jacks that I assign as center/sub. Also, I tried a different set of speakers without changing any settings when the Klipsch speakers were messing up and I do not have the problem. The problem seems to either be a problem with my Klipsch speakers or the way the Klipsch speakers interact with the realtek onboard HD audio drivers. I did not have this problem when I used the Klipsch speakers with my Creative Audigy 2 ZS card (in my older motherboard), the subwoofer output to the subwoofer so I know the Klipsch subwoofer does work.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I get LF and RF correctly but the subwoofer outputs to both the LF and RF.

Maybe I am not understanding right. Can you clarify what I quoted?

Regardless of soundcard or what not, if you feed any signal to the LF/RF it should use an internal crossover and direct the bass to subwoofer. So even if you leave the sub/center and LR/RR unconnected, you will get bass from the sub. What kind of signal are you using, or is the motherboard using to test the subwoofer? If it's above say 120Hz your going to have a hard time regardless hearing it. Can you enable/disbale the subwoofer/lfe channel on the sound card?

What is the level setting on the subwoofer on the control unit?

I don't know know what kind of signal the motherboard is sending. It sends a sequential multitone sound through each speaker channel in the speaker setup. So, if I click on the left front speaker in the control panel, the sound comes out of the left front speaker. If I click on the right front speaker in the control panel, the sound comes out of the right front speaker. This also happens for the left rear, right rear, and center speakers. The only difference is when I click on the subwoofer speaker in the control panel, the sound comes out of the left and right front speakers with the new (foxconn destroyer motherboard) instead of from the subwoofer.

When I connect a different set of speakers (logitech g51s) to the new motherboard, I do not have this problem. The following occurs: If I click on the left front speaker in the control panel, the sound comes out of the left front speaker. If I click on the right front speaker in the control panel, the sound comes out of the right front speaker. This also happens for the left rear, right rear, and center speakers. The only difference is when I click on the subwoofer speaker in the control panel, the sound comes out of the subwoofer only, I don't hear any other sound from the front speakers like when I use the Klipsch set.

The subwoofer is set to 00 on the control pod for either speaker set. If I turn the subwoofer up to like 10 on the control pod then I get bass from the Klipsch subwoofer but I still get sound from the two front speakers. If I do that with the Logitech speakers, the sound is only output from the subwoofer but it is louder at 10 than at 00.

Hope that makes more sense.

It sounds like the crossover is working in the klipsch setup. Then again I am no expert in how the speakers are meant to work. I would expect the left/right front/back to crossover and toss the lows to the subwoofer, but if the subwoofer channel has high's send it to the main front's.

I don't know what kind of tone it is sending out. I know my Technics AC-500D has a white noise generator, and when it puts signal out to the subwoofer I barely hear anything from it, but then again, when watching movies, I get tons of bass.

Have you tried any bass mp3 tracks and see how they sound? http://www.realmofexcursion.com/downloads.htm *note, use with extreme caution, as these may and have potental to damage your speakers.* I would turn volume all the way down, and slowly work up.
