russ69
I'm not much of a country music fan but this CD is a keeper. I have a few country CDs but today they are closer to rock music than old time country. This CD is a bit more toward the country side but this ole rocker really likes it. Recording quality is excellent and the bass is low and full (maybe too full?). His voice is similiar to Waylon but a bit younger sounding. Maybe his style is more like Kristofferson. Anyway, give it a listen. Dennie
Thanks Russ, I read the description and it does sound like a keeper! Dennie Amazon.com The final cut on That Lonesome Song—kindof a concept album meets musical manifesto—is titled "Between Jenningsand Jones," which is where Jamey Johnson finds himself shelved in theCD racks, and also how he describes his sound. Actually, there's waymore Jennings than Jones, with two cuts covered from Waylon's classic Dreaming My Dreams(the title track and "The Door Is Always Open"), another paying tributeto him by name ("The Last Cowboy") and several others borrowingliberally from his sound. Yet in terms of both concept and sound, thebare-bones intimacy of this bittersweet divorce album remind more ofWillie Nelson's Phases and Stages (at least side one, theman's side), with the opening "High Cost of Living" ("ain’t nothinglike the cost of living high") setting the "Bloody Mary Morning" tone, extended by the sad country waltz of "Angel" and continuing through thedown-and-out epiphany of the title track. Only the comparativelylightweight novelty of "Women" indicates that this is the same guy whowrote "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" for Trace Adkins. --Don McLeese
bonz44
This is a great album, I think one of the best of last year. But of course I love old school country, Waylon, Cash, Coe, Willie, Kristofferson.
