sadamcik
I recently purchased a setup that includes the RS 42 surround speakers but I don't have a rear wall and only have one side wall I could mount the speakers to . I purchased a set of omnimount 20 mounts to mount the RS 42's to the ceiling. Does anyone have any experience with having the RS 42's mounted to the ceiling? Any issues or concerns with having these speaker mounted to the ceiling? I know that mounting the surrounds on the ceiling is ideal but the house was pre-wired with the surrounds wires in the ceiling and ceiling mounting seems to be my best option for the room I have. Thanks in advance for the input.
wuzzzer
To quote Trey Cannon, Klipsch employee: "NEVER mount a wall hanging speaker on the ceiling! The cabinet is not built to hold the weight of the speaker mounted like that. The "Key hole" mounts are only screwed into the MDF back with wood screws. They could pull out and fall. Then you have the key hole mounts, you can never get them tight enough to be sure they will not move off the screws. IF you want to have a speaker fall and maybe hit some one or thing, hang them on the ceiling." From this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/120816.aspx You would be much better off buying stands for them or selling the RS-42s and replacing them with in-ceiling or in-wall speakers. sadamcik
Thanks for the info. Does this mean that even the two threaded inserts can't support the weight of the speakers when mounted from the ceiling? If so I imagine my best bet would be getting floor stands. dougdrake
perhaps you can find some type of ceiling-attached bracket that presents a vertical mounting surface for the speaker? it would extend down from the ceiling and then angle 90 degrees to a flat surface to which you could attach the RS42. or you could build something similar out of plywood and 2x4's.
