davis419b
I am wanting to try a sub with my Heresy II. It is a SW-10 and has left and right connections from amp to sub. I am using a Vintgage Kenwood receiver with A, B, AB and C speaker control. What I want to know is do I hook the Heresys to A - L&R and the sub to B - L&R and turn the speaker control to the AB postion and the sub takes care of the rest. Thank You for your help in advance as I have never done this before ! Don
RichardP
I think you have it right. This is a powered sub, correct? And one which takes either speaker level or line level inputs, I assume? Using speaker level inputs provides an signal that varies according to the receiver's volume control setting. I know that using a line level output to a powered sub, such as from a tape-out jack, will not vary volume; you would have to set it on the sub with every change in the volume control knob. I also presume that, despite the speaker level output, the receiver amp is not using its power on the sub, as it would if it was an unpowered sub, so you aren't losing amp wattage on the sub. Hopefully this does not sound like gibberish.
russ69
Davis, The best way IMO, is to just come off one of the speakers with a speaker wire and drive the sub that way. This is the way the top sub makers recommend. Most if not all bass info in stereo is in both channels so just being hooked to one channel is fine. I like running through the entire system because it blends better when it takes on the sound of your whole system and not just the preamp section. Thanx, Russ
