Moit Posted November 11, 2009 Share Posted November 11, 2009 Just moved and upgraded from an old HK AVR 25II, to the HK AVR 354. Not sure how to hook all this up, not the audiophile I used to be. All components to the AVR, then TV or what? Here is my current system TV Sony 52Z5100 AVR HK 354 Blue Ray Sony BDP -S360 Dish VIP211K Mains RF7's Center (looking for RC7) Rear CDT 5800-C No sides or SUB I have been a wall-flower on this site for over 9 years, all the advice and comments are just incredible. Moderators Youthman Posted November 11, 2009 Moderators Share Posted November 11, 2009 Without knowing the connections you have available, I'll give my suggestions: Please forgive me if I state something that is obvious to you. Speakers hook up with regular speaker wire and are pretty straight forward. Just make sure on your speaker cable to match the positive + (red) to the positive and the negative to the negative - (black) from your receiver to your speakers. You will see something like Front Left, Front Right and Center on the back of your receiver. I recommend using 12 or 14 gauge wire. Hook the Dish to one of the inputs on the AVR. Hook the Sony to the AVR. Then use HDMI going from your receiver to your TV. If you don't have HDMI options on a component, the next best thing would be to use Component Video (Red, Green, Blue) connections for the video since it will still transmit full HD video and then use either Digital Coax or Fiber Optic (Optical) to carry the audio. You only need to get video and audio from the sony to the receiver and audio and video from the dish to the receiver. You do not have to run audio from the receiver to the TV since your AVR will be sending the sound to your speakers. I have all HDMI - the quick start guide suggests: Dish to HDMI 2 DVD to HDMI 1 Monnitor Out (HDMI) from the AVR to TV HDMI IN So my TV stays on a single input, and the AVR does all the switching? I let my AVR do the switching on my setup and HDMI will provide you with the best video and audio quality. See, you know more than you claim to.
