superedge88 Posted November 21, 2009 Share Posted November 21, 2009 So I am building a subwoofer and will be using the Oaudio 500 watt plate amplifier.http://www.oaudio.com/500W_SUBAMP.htmlI will not be mounting it to the subwoofer box, but want to place it inits own cabinet and sit it on my audio rack. Does anyone have picturesof the cabinet that they made for their plate amplifier? My initialthought was to make a black wood cabinet with some passive coolingvents low on the sides near the front of the cabinet for air intakethen have other vents on the top back of the cabinet for the passivewarm air venting. Maybe a nice looking brushed stainless steel or blackhandle on top for a bit of an industrial style appeal.Any help and creative ideas are much appreciated. Partsexpress has a 500 wpc BASH amp for $229 or $199 ea if you buy 2 or more. How good are these amps? They sure are inexpensive. I have some Rockform Fosgate subwoofers from the 1990's and Cerwin Veg subwoofers from the late 1980's that I was thinking about building some smal sealed boxes for, and using these amps and doing an in wall install for a home theater. superedge88 Posted November 21, 2009 Author Share Posted November 21, 2009 The issues with some of the plate amplifiers are that they have a built in subsonic filter that you have to bypass if you want to go below the set point. The Oaudio aplifier was tested on AVSforums and it is was deemed one of the best buys as far as dollar for watt with more features than almost any other plate amplifier within the same price range. No active cooling added, all of the cooling is passive through the front plate. I always prefer to run a long run of speaker cable rather than a long run of interconnect.
